The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

I remember CUBE magazine at one point came with fascia templates that you could slot an image into, and slot that into the GameCube. Tacky but also kinda cool at the time.

=EDIT=
Thanks sixteen-bit :)

Metroid one is a disappointment, would be so much better if it were just a textless version of the logo that took up the whole thing.

So I just impulse bought Gotcha Force at $70 (COMPLETE)... I figured that it would only go up and up in price, due to the uniqueness of the game and the fact that not many people bought it, so I just took the dive.

It is perhaps my most fondly remembered GameCube game so it should ease the pain when I get to play it.

EDIT: I remember leaving the disc out of its case and not giving two shits about it until it disappeared because I was a stupid kid. I really want to kick myself.

Man, Gotcha Force is a great game. Especially as a Gundam EXVS fan, this is the only game that satisfies that fix on the Gamecube. I didn't know it was so sought-after. I sold my second copy a while back.

I got these last year at the goodwill .99 cents each. sealed new in box.

amazing.

I have two bongos and only need the second donkey konga game, but would love to stumble on that. All my goodwills seem to sell their stuff on the company auction site now. I've gone weeks without finding anything but a lonely ps1 or dreamcast game.

Hey guys, just wanted to chime in with posting my gamecube collection, as you can tell, its my favourite system. Sadly I dont think it will ever get completed, because collecting NTSC games in Europe is a b*tch. And ebay already went wrong and I lost 100 bucks for games that never came around, and I do want that 480p goodness. And besides that, I like the US packaging of gamecube games better.

Some things I have double, because of different reasons such as the previous copy was not fully complete, slightly scratched disc etc. Besides, before I started collecting I already had Pal games, which I had to buy again in ntsc version. Other times it was just to cheap an offer to pass on, like the modem adapters :P

One of my primary concerns is absolutely mint conditions of all first party games, with all booklets and flyers etc., important 3rd party games and accessoires, so mostly everything you see is in like new condition with all booklets, packaging and plastic bags (that came with the accessoires)

Anyway, without furter addo (sorry for the quality, was taken with phone, and had to resize):

Random stuff not pictured because not boxed and/or complete/loose:
-game boy player
-microphone
-2 1019 official memeory cards
-4 official controllers
-logitech wheel with pedals
-3 non boxed cubes in various colours with cables/adapters
-bongo s in b jungle beat box, forgot

Man, this thread!

So I tracked down a indigo Gamecube at a local used game store for $35, with controller, cables, no box but everything looks good except for some dust.
Does that sound like a good price? I see some Gamestops sell them for $20 but none near me. Should I bite or try to find a cheaper one at a yard sale?

Gamecube consoles are cheap and easy to find. $15 tops is what I'd pay locally, but maybe they're more common around here than they are for you.

If you live in the U.S. and pay for the shipping I'll send you a Gamecube for free (plus some surprises). It'll have to be in a week or two though. Have you played any GC games or will this be your first time touching the system?

Love this thread. Last night I had some friends over who aren't into gaming at all.. and after much convincing got them to play the first Super Monkey Ball. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.. they were completely hooked and we played for over 2 hours.. what a great game. I need to revisit my GCN collection (have over 50+ games).

It also made me realize how much I miss last gen in terms of quality gaming.

I'll have to post some updated pics later on. I've spent at least two hundred dollars since this thread started on tracking down games I always saw on shelves as a kid and wanted to check out but never did. Only a few games left before I'm comfortable calling it quits. A while ago I asked what my best bet was for finding replacement cases (some of the used games I bought were in rough shape) and a user recommended I check eBay, but I can't find anything there. Anyone have any other suggestions/links?

You could try and scour Amazon for the $.01 games that come with cases, then just throw the discs and inserts away. That's what I plan on doing when I figure out how many cases I need.

I went most of last gen with a GameCube only and got a PS2 late into it's life (several months after FFXII came out). Feeling lazy to post pictures of the whole shebang since it's a ton of stuff but there were some difficult times during the droughts when no good games were coming out during the summer. I have something like over 55 games for it including The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest. The Collector's Edition was one of the best pre-order bonuses ever in compared where we now live in a time where DLC for in game items, extra missions, and XP is all the rage these days.

That said, I enjoyed the hell out of it. So many damn good games for it as well as a few quality JRPG's that made it on the platform such as Tales of Symphonia which I played the hell out of. Smash Bros: Melee blew my 12 year old mind away when it came out as a launch title. It's too bad Brawl didn't do the same due to being spoiled silly by the characters before it came out. Bad mistake.

I missed out on Pikmin and Pikmin 2 and had Animal Crossing at some point before I traded it for Beyond Good and Evil. I also missed out on the Mario sports games spin offs. I always wanted to get Mario Power Tennis since I like tennis games.

I remember when our Gamecube got a disc error, my brother went all the away to a Nintendo Repair Center in The Bronx (I'm in NY) by bike in the middle of a rain storm. Crazy, crazy times.

My black GameCube from near launch that we bought back at the now defunct KB Toys that used to be in my neighborhood currently sits atop of a high shelf collecting dust. Hell my old gamers.com handle was GameCubeKid. The GameCube is criminally underrated but it has some good teenage years memories that I hold close to my heart.

$15 is about the right price.

It's very cheap because apart from the GB player and the sentiment of having the console, there's really no value in the gamecube anymore with the Wii being able to play its games.

I bought a gamecube for $4 at a goodwill store a couple years back.

most systems are going up in price lately at thrift stores.

lol $40 for xbox 1 (the original) and now $20+ for gamecube

im thinking of selling my gamecube collection to fund my trip to Cali

That's what I was thinking as well, although a lot of places see to charge $.01 but it's still about $5 shipping. Ah well, it's not like I need a huge number of cases.

PM sent! Thanks again for the generous offer!

Thanks for the info, I was going back and fourth at the shop it did sound a bit too high.

GameCube emulation and Wii playback just isn't the same. Plus, slot loading such a small disc freaks me out. That little box is so cool!

Best thread in a while, the vast number of collectors never cease to amaze me.

Yeah exactly. I played it back when I was younger and it was unlike any other game I have played, it was amazing with so many different characters with unique movesets. Looked BEAUTIFUL as well. Super clean graphics. The dub was ATROCIOUS though. I've seen several copies of it a few years back at game shops but was hesitant to pick it up. I regret it.

I didn't realize that there were any other games like it until I found out about Gundam Extreme Vs and Virtual On.

This game especially still holds up amazing IMO. Looks fantastic with component cables added. Honestly shocked there hasn't been a new F-Zero on the Wii/Wii U yet.

it's beautiful over component, but it's so damn hard (;_;) casual arcade racers like myself have to invite over more skilled friends, haha

speaking of, i gotta pickup a GC gameshark one day to see the arcade unlock on it finally!

F-Zero GX is really an incredible game. I never finished the harder stuff, but man, the stuff I did finish was a challenge. Pretty sure I finished Story on hardest difficulty up until the Speed-esque "if you slow down you explode" level.

I have a hidden shame though, I used an Action Replay disc that came with an issue of CUBE to unlock all the racers.

So my GameCube has stopped reading discs reliably. It reads most, but my GameBoy Player boot disc specifically just won't read.

The last few nights I've been using it to play Oracle of Ages, and it's worked mostly fine. Occasionally wouldn't read, but opening and closing then disc cover got it to work. Now it just won't read at all.

Is this something I can fix reasonably easily, or should I just be on the lookout for a new GameCube/GB Player disc?

[EDIT]
So after a couple more open/closes it has decided to work, but I think I might still have to be in the market for a new console :\

yeah, as long as you're not gaming on a Q or rare variant, the good news is this might just be one of the cheapest replacement systems out there!

Seeing sixteen-bit talk about $15 GameCubes, I wonder how different the market must be in the US! I'm looking at about $70 minimum here.

That said, I've found an Indigo one (which will be nice since I already have a Jet Black GC) along with 6 games (Eternal Darkness, Starfox Adventures, Vexx, Sonic Mega Collection, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy and Lost Kingdoms) for $130. If I can barter the guy down to $100 that might seem like a reasonable deal.

Plus I can sell off my extra copies of ED and Starfox if I do that, probably recoup at least half of that spending.

You know, with this new found friendship Sega and Nintendo have with Sonic/Yakuza... I wonder if another F-Zero made by Sega could be in the cards.

Considering that Nintendo didn't like it, I don't think so, but it's possible that popular opinion might sway them.... then again, they're Nintendo (popular opinion lol).

It was Miyamoto that said something about F-Zero not turning out well when they partnered with another studio for it. But supposedly, and I can't find the source again, he was referring to the GBA games developed by Suzak and not GX.

Edit: And I think the original quote might be taken out of context, since in that very same answer he goes on to talk about Twilight Princess' disappointing sales in Japan.

EW: You've had great success in your ability to predict what players will find fun to play. Have there been games that you thought would be fun but didn't turn out that way?

Miyamoto; Yes, that has definitely happened. In the past we've worked with some outside development houses on titles like F-Zero and Starfox — and let me just say that we were disappointed with the results. Consumers got very excited about the idea of those games, but the games themselves did not deliver. And, well, to be honest with you, Zelda: Twilight Princess is not doing very well at all in Japan. It is very disappointing. But it is doing okay here in America.

Recently realized I never opened my copies of Pikmin 2, F-Zero GX, PN-01, Fire Emblem, and a few others.

Now I'm never opening those guys. I'll grab some cheap discs on ebay if I want to play them.

Fire Emblem isn't exactly a game you're going to find cheap copies of on Ebay.

Pikmin 2 isn't too cheap either, $30+. Wii version is a bit cheaper and available new.

As long as they're cheaper than the difference between a sealed and opened copy, it's a better deal than opening these.

So I went and got another GameCube. I feel this is the start of a terrible habit, but now I have a Jet and an Indigo GameCube, and the Indigo one works perfectly. Tried the GameBoy Player disc that was giving me greif in the Jet one, and it worked first try in the new one.
The black GB Player doesn't quite colour match, but it looks kinda cool I guess.

So yeah, this was about AU$120 all up.

Ever played Eternal Darkness? If not, prepared to be amazed, one of my top 5 GC games.

I got this today! Now to find a nice spot in my collection for it. hmm

NICE! How much did you end up paying if you dont mind me asking? I've always wanted a complete boxed panasonic Q

About $260 via GAF buy/sell/trade thread. :)

Only slight issue with the disk drive so far, won't open. Everything else works perfectly. I bet it got dislodged and a bit dirty over the years, similar thing happens to the original Xbox with it being hard to open unless you clean it.

Either way, I'm happy to own it and show it off. Now my rarest item

Let's just say Afro is a standup Gaffer.
What's this, a shipment from Afro, who offered to send me a Gamecube for FREE.

Haha.

So not only did Afro send me a Gamecube, controller and four games... He sent a second console! You know, in case the first one broke!

My son is excited to play Luigi's Mansion together.

So thank you so much again, Afro! You really helped me out a ton sending this wonderful gift!

We just fired up Super Monkey Ball. I never played it before and I'm impressed with how fluid the controls are. The Gamecube analog stick is perfect for this game, nice sense of speed as well. Looks good on my one remaining CRT TV too!
