The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

I recently did a massive purge of everything video game related, but the GC and the GC games are the only things that were left untouched. This is by far my favorite system, and I don't want to lose any of these games. I traded in Skies of Arcadia Legends years back, and I spent twice as much money reacquiring it recently.

I like that people are still making mods for this baby.

heh, that's cute

I'm sure it runs hot with all those blocked vents though.

More airflow than my Gamecube got at times. My siblings would always push it in a hole between the side of the shelf it was on and a stack of magazines, so the vents would be completely blocked.

It actually survived that, I assume the disc motor dying was unrelated.

So is there any advantage to the more expensive GCN version of Timesplitters Future Perfect or should I just pick up a PS2 copy?

No multitap necessary!

True. Not sure how often more than two players will be playing but that is an advantage in case it ever happens.

I was thinking in terms of performance, or maybe a bug in one version or the other.

I just won a copy on eBay for $20, worth it IMO.

That's a great price compared to what I've seen so far. Still quite a bit more expensive than a PS2 copy though...

Edit: And do memory card 1019s have problems with the Gamecube or just the Wii? Looks like it's just the Wii.

I asked about 1019s earlier in the thread, some said they had issues with it in a GC.
I found my old 251 so I'm using that for data I care about.

That said, I've had no issues with my 1019, and neither has my friends who has used his for two years now, in a Wii.

Re: Future Perfect, I expect the GC version will look/perform a bit nicer than the PS2 version. Xbox is probably best.

Destroyed my game collecting budget this fortnight but did manage to find a copy of Aggressive Inline for $5 at a pawn shop. Underrated game in my opinion.

I wish that there were a less expensive way to acquire Gamecube component cables. I'd like to use my gamecube with my HDTV and not have it look like poo. :(

Where abouts do you live? might be worth ringing up your local nintendo branch, that's what I did, got my set for $46. Makes a HUGE difference I must say

Seems like only Australia has them. They probably weren't very popular there since PAL games don't support 480p.

If someone acted as a middleman and could order one and ship it out that would be awesome, but there's not much reason to do that when you could just sell it for way more instead.

I'd do it but Nintendo won't sell me anymore of them.

I'd do it but I have to pay to ship to New Zealand and by the time we pay to ship out again to another country (USA or whatever) it'll probly be close to normal price anyways.

You're both awesome anyway.

S-Video is a great secondary option, and you can get those reasonably cheap.

S-Video is a big improvement over composite but still a distant second compared to component. The problem is finding one that's not junk.

Chaos, what is your limit for the component cable?

I mean, it is hard to pay the US$ 200 usually it goes on ebay, but if you can spend US$ 100-130 you may get it from yahoo auctions Japan. That is what I did anyway. Payed US$ 130 on a BIN auction after all the deputy services fees and EMS shipping. If you have time to wait for a normal auction you may get for less.

That's true, I'd looked at that before but it was while the exchange rate was terrible.

D-Terminal is also an option, the cable is usually cheaper and component adapters are less than ¥1000 (but like $50 if you buy one domestically).

Turns out that after i bought a new component cable from nintendo australia, I found my cable i thought i'd lost...as is always the case!

Sooooo im willing to trade my spare cable for a few GC games that i'd like the US versions of if ur interested I'll let u know what titles.

I don't even play team sports games that get released. So an unreleased yearly sports game? I can die perfectly well without ever playing/owning it.

I may be able to do that, depends on the availability (and I guess price) of the games.

yeah but if i could snag a copy i could snag a copy i could mebbe trade it on here for Cubivore. Cubivore!
You needn't deal only in copies of NCAA 2K3.

Money can be exchanged for goods and services. And Cubivore! :)

But trading goods is so much more exciting!

I give you boring game, you give me interesting game!

I'd love to stumble over this and that infamous canned but also already in-production NBA Live game from a few years back.

I could probably pay for all the high-price games I'm still missing on GCN & Wii!

^exactly! plus i want to be that dude who bought it for $2 and BAM turns that into Cubviore!

maaaan that SNES garage sale i missed last weekend bummed me out, i wanted a $5 copy of Secret of Mana not to hock it on ebay, but to go in B/S/T/ like WHO'S GOT MEGA MAN 1, CONKER'S, AIR ZONK OR SOME COOL SHIT HOLLA

Not having any money to go game hunting this pay cycle is killing me. I can't even afford to drive around and have a look :( I think I'm having withdrawals.

EDIT: Also does anyone have a copy of this game?

I always remember having fun with it and I remember it as SSX with motorbikes but I'm not sure if it still holds up and if it's worth tracking down. Any thoughts?

It's fun and edgy.. very reminiscent of SSX but I didn't get very far playing it.. I remember a good sense of speed and some neat tricks but I didn't find it nearly as enjoyable as SSX Tricky or 3.

I just looked at my only game trade in in like 15 years on Amazon and was horrified. WTF was I thinking!??!?!?

SSBM
PSO Ep1&2 (not plus)
Mario Kart DD
Dokapon Kingdom (Wii)

FUCK! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

and once again I am reminded why you DON'T FUCKING TRADE IN GAMES.

Ouch... there's something more disturbingly premeditated in trading into Amazon too. Think about it: you went to the amazon site, you put them in a little box, printed a shipping label and drove them to the post... and all the while you probably had a psychotic grin on your face as you thought of all the monies you'd gain in the process. :P

lol! I kidd, I kidd. Still though, ouch! I'd be kicking myself too.

I don't regret any of my trade-ins. I've traded in four games, and three of them I could buy back right now for less than what I traded them in for.

Oddly enough the only one that's increased in value is Orange Box PS3. But I don't really care, it's not rare, and it's the worst version of the game.

Christ you guys

I've never traded in a single game my entire life and never will ^_^

I've done two trade ins in my life. Both times sometime after I came to realize my regret.

I can say without hesitation that I am done.

Of course it does help that I've decided I am going digital download only from here on out :P

I never traded a single GC game (or any other) ever. However, my copy of Mario Kart: Double Dash is beyond damaged. I lent it to a friend in college and he returned it scratched to hell. Which sucks, because it was one of my favorite GC games. ;_;

I remember working at Superstore in Canada in 2004, for some reason we had HUNDREDS of copies of Eternal Darkness in our backroom and they were there since the game launched.

Our supervisor decided to throw them in the clearance bin for $1, im sad I never bought a copy.

No kidding. Few games aren't worth a dollar.
