The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

Welp, looks like my Gamecube is starting to die.
I think something is wrong with the laser.
It often fails to boot up for the first time. It goes into the menu like it would if there was no disc in the machine.
I can play games like the original Zelda or Mega Man, but if I try to play something like Metroid Prime, I can play for a bit and then I can hear the gamecube making weird whirring sounds and it crashes.

Serious question: why don't we see more consoles with handles on them?
The GameCube was the first system I ever owned (my family owned a computer up until then, that was about it games-wise) and it sort of set the bar for what I loved about console since then. Got it the first month it was out, just turned it on again earlier this week to play Melee and it all still works just fine. Even after being dropped a few times. Great piece of hardware.
Agreed, the handle is great. If not for that, there's no way I could carry the Cube, cords, my controller, and a small tv to Smash stuff all the time (if I'm by myself). The form factor is also great for portability. It feels like the system's whole design wants you to take it to your friend's house.

I had a game do that to me the other day. Really hope it's just the disc. I've heard cleaning lasers isn't hard, but I don't wanna try and then screw it up.

Well, how many do you have lol? Also if you're going to ask going my market prices it would be like north of 140$. So I suppose you could go lower if money isn't a crazy issue and you won't be too sad letting go of them. I personally could maybe go up to 100$, preferably less ;-;
But I'm sure someone here would outbid me so...

My recently acquired loose Component cables were won on a Japanese auction for around $80. But even there, that's not normal.

Is there a point to using them on a 480i PVM? I can always hook it up to my roommate's HD Wega for 480p, but just wondering. I tend to prefer the PVM's picture of course.

I have never brought the cube over to another person's house but I did pick up this carrying case several years ago at a garage sale.

You could pick up another gamecube as a backup. Aren't they still cheap? I have around 8-9 at home because I would buy a package from Craigslist to get the wavebird controller. Often times, it was a reg controller, wavebird, 2 games, gamecube for $25 to $40. So the cube was essentially free.

I lucky picked up a modded Region free Panasonic Q back in the day. Hell of a system. I can only imagine the price will go up.

You son of a bitch...I'm pretty happy with my Cube collection minus this and the GBA connector w/ Zelda and Crystal Chronicles.

I do have a sealed version of the OoT+Master Quest that I'm hoping to sell off eventually. Sadly, no Majora's.

My Gamecube has weathered ridiculous conditions and is still ticking. Got the componants and GBA player as well. I almost miss the days of proprietary upgrades like that.

Edit: And the handle rules. Was great just carrying the Cube over to a friend's and going nuts with some 4 player Kart or Mario Power Tennis.

Hmm, some guy selling a Sony FD Trinitron/SEGA 20" new in box locally for 80~$. Seems legit, but not 480p, maybe I should just settle with 480i and S Video. Too much of a hassle to find a CRT locally with component that is 4:3. Don't have room for those huge Sony RPTVs or CRTs. Has to be somewhat manageable.

Finished Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Really good game, took about 24 hours to play through. After having it sitting on the shelf, sealed, for 8 years, I can say I feel a little dumb for waiting that long.

Yo does anyone have an NTSC copy of Pokemon Box? Just curious. It's such a pointless game but...I want it anyway? I even have a gameboy player...rrr. If someone has a nice copy, I doubt you're willing to part with it, but some nice pics would be appreciated :o
Is it the rarest gamecube game at this point?

Edit: Also, a Panasonic Q!!!? Well uh. I'd be lying if I said I could just burn cash on that, but do you have some pics?

Regarding Pokémon Box, you just want pictures of it?

Hell yeah I thought I was the only one who watched this guy.

he has 24,000 subscribers

My carrying case is slightly different.

Lol, I own both of those.

you got around to it & saw it through, though...that's what matters! glad you dug it, i gotta go back & play the N64 one but from the ones ive run through, it's easily my favorite.

Sure! Do you have the memory card labels still? I'm curious exactly what was included. Rare games are always nice to see.

Yeah, I have everything. I'll have to dig it out. Might not be able to take pictures until next week.

Edit: Regarding those Gamecube cases posted above, I used to own the GBA carrying case that matched that set, and could be threaded through on a belt.

I still have yet to get round to playing Twin Snakes! I need to buy a new one... also to this day it's still my favorite looking console.

I think Metal Gear fans should still try the Twin Snakes, if find myself replaying it more often than the original. If you can just laugh at how ridiculous some of the cutscenes are and not take it too seriously I think you'll enjoy it.

Collecting wise I'm going to try for all the Nintendo published games so have bought a few of the bigger/pricier titles I didn't have over the last month to get them out the way, might post a picture later.

I'm looking forward to playing all of them but I need to buy some more memory cards first though since I've somehow lost mine.

Thanks to Peagles I finally have my GameCube in RGB, and it looks much better than my previous svideo cables. At least on the few things I've played. Now I'm considering getting an Extron Emotia to downscale all 480i content to 240p. Thankfully they're not too expensive.

Lookin' smooth!

Yeah that one's my favourite as well.

I'm afraid to try Sticker Star ...

Thousand Years Door will always be the best one, but you should give Sticker Star a try. There are a lot of weird design decisions, but there's still a lot to love there. I don't really get why it was so hated; I quite enjoyed it (using a guide when I got stuck...) and I found it better than Super Paper Mario overall.

I never took the plastic wrap off my Zelda Collector's Edition disc because I figured one day it'd be worth something.

10 years later, has it all been for nothing?

That panasonic is one pretty console. Them bragging rights indeed.

The GB player pic that you posted baphomet, running in 480i, no?

Edit: My GB Player, but sadly, no scanlines. Also, running on composhit. Got my new wires recently though. This is an old pic.

Amazon sellers are even crazier than eBay sellers when it comes to hail-Mary high prices.

Nobody will ever buy those games.

I've noticed that, as of late, Amazon prices on old games are sometimes cheaper than Ebay prices. That's the case maybe 30% of the time, but they are starting to align a little more.

Amazon prices get a bad rap because people can leave overpriced stuff on there forever. Decent deals come along but they never last very long. Same thing with eBay buy it now, any really good deals don't last more than a few hours at most.

The most stunning racing game on the GC is easily F-Zero GX. This is especially true when you play it in progressive scan.

Shit, now I'm reminded that I STILL haven't picked up that game. Actually, the GC in general has been a little overlooked by me while buying games for my collection recently. I need to change that. Next time I'm buying games I'm getting F-Zero and some other GC games! :D

BTW, does the PAL version of F-Zero work in 60hz?

The N64 version is so much better than the one on GameCube.

I love Wave Race: Blue Storm, but it's true (and a bummer) that the N64 game is better.

Also, don't forget that F-Zero GX supports widescreen - one of the few Gamecube games that does. It looks stunning through component on an HDTV with a good scaler.

I thought I had lost my Gamecube AV and power cables, but I found them today!

Hooked it up, looked through my collection to see what I wanted to play.

Went to my old system controllers box... no GC controllers to be found. :( Tragic. I used the AV I found for my N64 though!

I've also got three GBA adapters and a GBA SP. Time for some Crystal Chronicles and Four Swords Adventure with friends whenever I manage to pick up enough GBAs.
