What a weird article. It reads like advertorial.
yep. as do so many other 'this latest, greatest thing is just fabulous!', anecdote-based articles

Pretty much it's the vita part 2. I think some of it would be inherent though as it's by far the most powerful portable and has reasonable hardware. People that like playing portably would express those desires much like with the vita.
I wonder if the surprise twist for the Switch is that it represents what portable gaming was actually evolving towards for some time.
Smartphones have taken over for bite-size microgames, meant to be poked at for a few minutes during a commute. Meanwhile the DS and 3DS were increasingly powerful and capable of hosting full console style games. People also used them differently than the traditional image of the portable; they were like micro-consoles used for longer play sessions around the home or somewhere else.
Perhaps that is the secret with the Switch. There was a hidden demand for a device like this, upon reexamining the way in which the previous generation of dedicated portables was really being used by players.
I don't need much more than two months of regular usage to conclude that this is Nintendo's best hardware in many years.
What does that even mean? People should enjoy the Switch less because the WiiU sucked? People shouldn't talk about their Switch because the WiiU sucked? Does enthusiasm upset you for some reason?
Is the Switch worth it if you don't really have anyone to play with?
Been wondering if I should go with a Switch or a new PC this summer.
I mean, that's what a phone is for.To the people who are saying they don't need the portability or versatility, it's not something you really realize until you actually get your hands on it. You're going to be playing Zelda or Mario Kart going, "damn I need to take a dump" and then have that light bulb moment where you realize you can just take it with you.
Usually consoles sell because of games, not because they offer such an enjoyable, unique experience that using the system itself becomes a selling point. Nintendo has moved in the other direction; the games are going to sell because of the hardware.
For all the early talk of making a version that eliminates the joycons, you can now see how essential and integral they are to the system and it's versatility. Nintendo was absolutely right to make them as they did and not permanently attached.
Thanks for the response.Varies place by place. I know a local store that still has some new units for sale (though not sure if they'd have a slightly bumped up price); otherwise it's just pure luck as to whether or not franchises like GAME will have them in stock right now. Online, no, they're pre-ordering for when they get the next batch.
Good for you, but don't speak for a crowd.
I don't give a shit about who enjoys what.
But if you say people have hated nintendo hardware for a decade then i sure as shit won't rely on 2 months of statistics to say theyve reversed their fortunes. Lets wait for the honeymoon period to get over
But the hardware is here, it has appeal and is liked by pretty much everyone who has actually played it. So we can conclude that "I like their games but the hardware sucks" won't be as present as it was the last decade.
Based on enthusiastic early adopters who didnt even wait for the console to be fullt market tested and get a decently large library of games.
Again, all these posts just mean individuals like it. And im happy for them. But lets wait for a more collective opinion that isnt potentially jaded by a honeymoon phase on hardcore gaming community.
Yes it sold well, as would be expected from the successor to nintendo's portable and home console.
You can't deny some love to a portable console.
We grow up with them, carry them on trip used them on waiting line / boring events, and lose sleep time playing them on bed.
Anyway yes, i really feel that switch is getting love from people that was not even considering to buy a nintendo console
The switch is the vita 2.
The second I heard some say "love my switch". It was completely confirmed.

PS Vita sold 2-4m in its first year and then slowly died. Actually when all was said and done the Vita probably sold about as much as the WiiU.But in this case more widespread and does actually sell well.
Expected?Based on enthusiastic early adopters who didnt even wait for the console to be fullt market tested and get a decently large library of games.

That's a fair way of going about it, and I don't think anyone would say use their Switch during those situations every single time, but there is imo inherently more appeal to playing a grand prix in MK8D than scrolling through Neogaf when I am waiting for water to boil when I'm cooking for example. It makes those small moments where you wait more fun, and imo the Switch provides that fun better than any other device, due to the software available.I mean, that's what a phone is for.
If I'm taking a dump, or sitting in an office waiting for an appointment, I have NeoGAF, Reddit, emails, text messages, LINE, Twitter, and so on to entertain me. Hell, even other games like Fire Emblem Heroes or Crypt of the Necrodancer. A dedicated handheld gaming device doesn't fit my life, and I'm sure it's true for millions of other people. I don't need to game all the time and spend hundreds of dollars on a device when I already have one that provides entertainment in those situations.
That said, the Switch has definitely taken off a lot more than I expected. Solid hardware + an incredible game really can make a big splash.
I like that first quote from the Polygon article, when I first saw those scenes in the Switch reveal trailer I thought it looked cute but impractical. Fast forward to, after taking my Switch out with me a handful of times to social gatherings, and I've personal recreated this scenario many times.
Not really - the main point is the fact that it can hooked up to the TV at any point and that it enables local coop on the go better than previous systems. Just dropping a more powerful GBA/PSP/Vita wouldnt have the same effect.
Switch evolved from the limitations of previous portables and offer stuff that can be appreciated even for customers that own other consoles, handhelds or smartphones.
My girlfriend has a 4670K with a 1060 and she wants The Witcher 3 on her Switch, Nintendo definetely hit something here.I've got a 1070 in my 3570k PC at the moment. If I had the funds for a bit of gaming technology, I would absolutely take a Switch over any upgrade. Offers a significant amount different to the PC (or home consoles) to make it viable. I would even get my multiplatform titles on it tbh.
Depends on what you've got in your PC though!
Edit:
I'd be completely behind Sony/MS doing something bold and abandoning the power race to move solely to a hybrid form factor.
Have you heard about our lord and saviour the Nintendo Switch?
Why do you care if people know you play games?I get the feeling people want to try to sell the Switch as the new Wii where everybody is wanting one.
I believe the truth is the opposite. I personly love to play games, even collect them but Im just emberassed to play them in public places (train, metro etc).
What do you mean?I like the hardware, I don't however like a lot of this forum since it was announced
That's what happens when you release actual good handheld hardware. Took Nintendo long enough. It does seem to have that weird fanaticism that defined vita owners.
When is it okay to say people like the Switch? Fall of 2018?
How much of that is you, though? I've played it in public plenty without getting any strange looks.I get the feeling people want to try to sell the Switch as the new Wii where everybody is wanting one.

I do love mine, but I'm not sure it's speaking to many folk outside of the mainstream gamer circle yet. This is anecdotal from people who obviously have a circle of gamers, and even many people who post on forums, have a circle of gamers.

IMO this line is spot on and bodes very well for the console going forward.
