The Nintendo Switch has become the system people love to love

I'm a truck driver so when I returned to the company yard I was in the bunkhouse, I noticed someone had a large msi gaming laptop so I knew he was a gamer, he asked right away about my Switch when he saw it (guessing the neon helped draw his attention). We played MK8D, Puyo, snipperclips, fast rmx. He enjoyed himself and seemed interested in getting one. Another driver asked me if that was the "new Nintendo", I told him it's called the switch and we played some MK8D and minecraft. This second driver was pretty much a mobile only gamer. I was glad I brought my pro controller in for them to use although joycon singles were used for snipperclips and a round of MK8D before we switched to pro and split joycon. Both drivers had fun, never had anyone there ever show any interest whatsoever in my 3ds, just not a sexy system.

Fuck it, I bought the Switch. Never thought I would get one.

Bought Zelda, even though I've never really been a fan of it.

Just waiting for Splatoon 2. And nobody had Tetris in store.

I just happened to walk into the grocery store here, and I asked if they got any Switches and I didn't expect them to cause it's been sold out everywhere, but then they told me they had just got a new stock in today, so whatever, bought it on the spot. Paid $80 for Zelda, that launch day premium price.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
People only show your Switch attention in public because they wanna play for free.

Prove me wrong folks.

At a grocery store? Do they typically sell game systems because that's the last place I'd expect a gaming system to be sold at

$80 for BotW? But the game costs $60...was that like a special edition or something?

I think it's the bersgala prices and at least in Finland there are supermarkets that sell groceries, electronics (including games), clothes etc. in a same store.

Every time I get the switch out in the office more and more people are getting interested in buying one. That's never happened with any of my other consoles.

How often did you get your other consoles out at the office? Like, to set them up for people to play?

With the heat in LA this weekend, we had a few power outages. When that happened, we played some local MP on Switch, and I got some Zelda time in too. That alone was a nice reminder of how versatile this system is... built-in MP and the ability to play the exact same games w/o a TV.

Yeah that's just the prices here in the Nordic countries and I don't wanna wait for an Amazon import. Yeah grocery stores sell them in a few cases.

Anyway , got the profile up and running, updated it and is ready to go. I love the user interface already. I just hope Zelda will be something for me, I'm hesitant though.

I'm thinking of getting a Switch today, but is concerned about it's durability when taking it outside.

I haven't had a cover on my phones for a good decade, but dropped 2 phones within the last 2 weeks that completely broke, so I'm wary.

And there's nothing I would enjoy on this one other than Puyo Puyo Tetris when I take it to my parents place. Maybe Mario Kart 8, if it's great to play splitscreen on the device itself?

As long as you're not dropping it on hard surfaces all the time it's fine. I carry mine with me pretty much everywhere, play it on the tube/train/bus, at the library/cafe during gaps while I'm working, at lunch, etc...

Just make sure your bag is suited to protecting it or you have a carry case. It feels pretty durable.

I was never a Zelda fan. The last game I 'played' was the first on NES at a friends house, but I mostly just watched him play.

I received it from a stupid Switch bundle from gamestop and started playing.

A few hours later I am completely hooked! This game is glorious on handheld and so clear. I just found out how to cook yesterday and I love him humming, so cool.

Going from WiiU, this screen is amazing, and the speakers are good to.

Congrats. Have fun with Zelda and the Switch.

That's the difference between traditional handhelds and Switch, you aren't disappearing into your own little world, you're sharing it. It's an invitational activity, not an excluding one. I've never seen a piece of technology so good at simply selling itself in the wild.

Kinda a weird question.. say I bought the digital MKD8 and eventually I want to own the Physical copy. How would the console handle this? Will a digital one just stick around the download screen? Will two tiles show the same game?

Stupid gamestop bundle....

I fell in love with Nintendo again this year. It started with visiting my parents house and playing my brother's 3DS. I got hooked on Super Mario 3D Land and Zelda LBW.

I've had a Wii for the longest time and I was not a fan of Mario Kart Wii. I tried to get into it and just couldn't. When I saw gameplay and reviews for MK8D for the Switch, I had to grab it and the console. Game is very addicting. The portability is awesome not even on the go, but just in your house as well. Can go to the kitchen, family room, living room, bedroom, even use it when I'm working from home (shhh)!

My post looks like an Amazon review.

I always loved portables, but I'm realy in love with Zelda botw. The rest of the Switch is exactly like Vita with less games and no achievements.

Just played Mario Kart on a train ride with a co-worker. She never plays video games but was able to enjoy it with the auto-acceleration and Smart-steering enabled. She's also in her late 40s and the very professional/uptight type that has a no-nonsense attitude. She wears a lot of buttoned up pantsuits and takes life/the job super seriously.

So I was kind of surprised she was willing to try it... and I was even more surprised when she said "you're making me want to buy one of these things... so much fun!" Other people on this train - we are in business class - were definitely looking at what we were doing with curiosity.

It feels like the hardware has potential to appeal to the same Wii-crowd if Nintendo plays its cards right.

I think sales of Street Fighter (yup, it's #1 on Amazon France and outselling Tekken 7 in the top 20 on Amazon US, UK) and sales of Puyo Tetris, Lego City and Disgaea 5 are speaking volumes about how people love playing games on the Switch and how pleasing the device is to use in all three modes.

The Switch brings even the most familiar games back to life.

What character did she choose?

Just curious.

Nintendo doesn't get enough credit for how seamless it is to buy games digitally from other regions. Sure, you can do it in PSN too, but it's a pain in the ass with the Vita.

Been trying to find a Switch for sometime now. While traveling with the family this weekend we stopped in a Walmart for some items. Figured I would stop by electronics to humor myself and they had 3 Switches they just got in for the weekend sale. Guess who got themselves a new toy. 😁 Sadly I have no games right now. Need to decide if I sell my Wii U versions of Mario Kart and Zelda and repurchase them on the Switch.

Im starting to hate my Switch because of wifi problems.

I was getting crap like this at first. upon booting up the console could get signal but after a few minutes I would get this:

Didn't want to make new thread and figured this was the most appropriate place for this story:

I teach elementary and my class earned a pizza party for their hard work this year. I surprised them by bringing my switch in for a Mario Kart tournament with a bracket and everytthing. As we were hanging out and eating pizza, two kids came up at a time to race in table top mode. The winner won an amiibo of the character he chose (Toad).

As a bonus, our principals came in to tell the class good job and we talked them into racing each other. My principal saw it and goes "oh man I want one of those so bad" and the kids picked one to cheer for. Tons of fun.

Edit: As a side note, the value of auto accelerate and steer assist was really obvious that day. Made things go so smoothly even though several had never played before.

I don't remember any teachers like you, lol. Cool story. I'm sure the kids had a blast.

Just curious, had any of the kids played MK8 on Wii U?

Yeah I think 2 had played Mario Kart 8 and several had played the Wii version. No one in the class has a switch yet, but many kids want one. Lots of them know about Arms and Splatoon.

Minecraft
Snake Pass
1-2 Switch (it is fun with others)
Snipperclips (fun with others)
Puyo Puyo Tetris
Has Been Heroes
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove
Thumper
