The Nintendo Switch has become the system people love to love

I definitely love this thing. I'm a parent of four kids, and don't always get to use my tv as much as I'd like (apparently Paw Patrol is the priority in my house). I've started so many games on my PS4 and Xbox One that I've never even gotten close to beating because of limited time to play.

With the Switch I can play on the tv once the kids are in bed, on the couch in handheld mode when they're watching a show, and at work on my breaks. I've spent over 100 hours in Breath of the Wild, completely unheard of with my lifestyle. My wife and I spent over an hour playing Puyotet last night in tabletop mode at a family dinner. I've taken it to my mechanic and played Snipperclips with strangers while waiting for my oil to get changed. I've propped it up on a chair and played Mario Kart with co-workers while waiting for meetings to start. I love this thing!

I've got to be honest, I've turned on my PS4 and Xbox One each twice since March 3rd, and that was only to make sure that I downloaded the free games for the month. I want Persona 5 and Mass Effect Andromeda, but I know that without the hybrid nature of the Switch that I'd never finish them. Come now, third parties, I'm not the only one that wants you on board with this thing.

As someone with ever dwindling free time, the Switch has been a game changer for me. The ability to well, switch seamlessly from console to handheld mode is amazing and just really jives with where my life is at presently

Same. Married with a small child, and Switch has been a blessing.

I don't love mine, but it is a very solid piece of hardware with a lot of potential.

Since Zelda it has been sitting in it's dock, besides the Splatoon trial.

Not sold on Splatoon or Arms. Liked Splatoon 1 on Wii U but the paid online in the near future plus Splatoon 2 seeming very similar turns me off it. Arms I really hope has a demo/trial/beta test.

Otherwise I will hope for Pokemon Stars and look forward to Mario Odyssey.

Device certainly helps when you are trapped in the car dealership for 3 hours. Got to grind some Mario Kart online and time flew by pretty quickly.

I'm fiending for games to play on this device. Normally wouldn't of bothered grabbing the Cave Story + that's coming out, but when they said they were adding local co-op to it I was like "IN"

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Switch will take of even more when the more mainstream titles like Fifa, Minecraft and Skyrim start hitting. also the VC has a shot to reinvent itself just because of the local coop possibilities... the system has so much potential and many titles will benefit from being available on Switch.

It wouldn't have as much much of an effect but it would still have an effect. The switch is a portable local multiplayer device that's power. The 3DS isn't dead. People still do fundamentally like portables. If you were to compare this to how it would do if it was purely a home console to a portable, it's like not even a competition.

True - but Vita flopped so i dont quite get the comparison. Powerful portable hardware alone has never been enough to "rule" the market or appeal to a wide audience. The only thing Vita had going for it was the hardware - but everything else just wasnt worth the trouble for the mainstream audience - especially considering its competition with 3DS in the portable space, PS4 when it comes Sonys first Partys, Smartphones etc.

Switch is about to find its place in this crowded market space despite all the competition - so its the exact opposite of the Vita in many ways. Having powerful hardware for a portable device is a key element - but its just one of multiple.

Design and concept wise, it is already one of my favorite consoles ever and it just came out. I hope this thing gets a lot of love through it's life cycle. It certainly deserves it.

Would be really nice to see a XL version. bigger screen (and bezelless), larger joycons for people with larger hands, and a bigger battery. perhaps a second SD slot and a nano sim card slot.

I really wish I could muster the excitement about the Switch that everyone else has right now. After keeping my enthusiasm up for five years of the Wii U I'm a little burnt out on Nintendo's offerings. Everyone begging for Wii U games, games I've already played, on the Switch isn't helping.

The hardware issues isn't helping either. I can't even play something like Kamiko without the controls lagging because of a poor connection. I'm hoping the yellow joycons have this fixed as I'll likely pick those up and sell off the original pair that came with the system to recoup the cost.

As someone that saw the last two Nintendo consoles come and go without significant third party support I'm not holding my breath there either.

I love this thing and want everything to come to it. I'm actually choosing switch ports over PC ports due to the portability. Something I would never imagine doing years ago.

Switch is so much more than a "Vita 2". Sony would have never made a piece of hardware like this. And if Nintendo had simply created their version of the Vita, it wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is right now. The combination of portability, being able to play on your TV, and instant built-in multiplayer makes the system very different and more desirable than a simple Vita follow-up.

I never thought I'd use table top mode.

Last weekend at a family BBQ we had 2 switches set up outside with wireless play on MK8 . Safe to say those who didn't know what it was were interested.

Where is my Smash so I can buy that thing? Zelda and Mario Kart were on Wii U for me. I need something else than Mario Kart (not Splatoon with these tickrates). Or something New which isnt zelda. Hopefuly that device will be cheaper then too. It's still too expensive in Germany.

Also people complaining about Persona 5 can play it anywhere since release as long as you have a connection (which most trains in many countries have or of course workplaces) and it works wonderful with ps4 Controller and Smartphone or vita

Its a delicious dwvice.

Ive had many use cases already

Play Zelda for hours with good grapics on TV
Play at office during breaks
Take a game to the toilet wothout ant hassle
Play snipperclips and bomberman with my wife in bed
Casually do an online race with Mario Kart on the couch while waiting for my wife to get dressed
Play local fighting games like KOF98 with people you dont really know
Bring 1-2 Switch to a house party

The Switch is the ultimate gaming machine and it will sell lots of software.

Neogaf laughed at me when I said this system would change the way we play games. That the switch is the future of gaming. In time I will eventually be proven right.

I do wish it was a little more powerful, Zelda can look pretty rough at times, but I'm really happy with the hardware. If they can bring the games I will be a happy customer.

Oh god I don't know why I hadn't thought of that yet! I played 2 player Battletoads with my brother or other friends all the time growing up, I can't believe I didn't think about that possibility with Switch VC!

Of course Battletoads would never make it on the VC, but there are plenty of other great NES/SNES games that we played too (just not as much as Battletoads haha)

I enjoy mine, but it's not anything mind blowing though.

I dont see how you can say it's not true vita successor. it's the next gen portable. its essentially what any handheld successor would have been after the vita. The only unique aspect is the detachable joy-cons for multiplayer, which you can say is nintendos typical signature innovation, but it sure as hell feel like a true successor to the vita generation, which is the original point. TV out and L2/R2 was a given for any handheld successor from any company. The Vita 1000 even has a half-baked hdmi port. just because it's not identical to what people imagine that sony would have done with an official sony vita successor, doesn't mean it's not a proper follow up

It's an amazing piece of hardware. Underway we were playing Mario Kart on tabletop mode in our control room, I wished I had more than three controllers

I feel like the one major major thing most people missed (myself included) when considering the merits of the Switch prerelease is that with all the hemming and hawing about how it's just a glorified handheld and a weak console and other such things, it's the first system ever created that was specifically designed for multiplayer use outside of the standard TV environment.

This is a really, really big deal and we're all a bunch of idiots for missing it because that was literally the entire pitch of the console in Nintendo's reveal trailer. This isn't a Game Boy or a DS or even a phone where a single person retains ownership and other people must by necessity also have their own devices to be part of the fun. Any social gathering with a Switch has the potential to become a gaming party for everyone involved. You don't have to own your own Switch with you and you don't need to be an environment with a big living room gaming setup to sit down and play Mario Kart. You simply need to be somewhere near a Switch and you're good to go.

Nintendo has once again revolutionized the gaming industry with the portable console that is Switch. And before the rebuttals come crashing in, there is NO device that has ever bridged the gap between portable and home console so seamlessly and intuitively. Not even close. And like others have said, you don't know how big of an impact this has until you own it. Before the launch, my expectation was to have Switch be my 'Nintendo' machine and all 3rd party games on my PS4Pro. That plan has gone completely out the window lol.

I certainly hope the hybrid factor is iterated upon in this industry going forward. Now that I've had a taste with the Swtich I don't want to go back.

Good for Nintendo!

I bought one last week and it's a really nice piece of kit. I've only bought / played BotW so far.

My switch drove me to re-buy a vita for PS4 remote play. I can't finish games on console because I'm with my daughter and the wife. However laying in bed for the night or while I'm upstairs watching my daughter play I realized I cranked out 80 hours of zelda in no time. Some people at work have switches and all they play are MARIO kart and zelda and I've heard one of them say "the switch is my favorite console ever! it's perfect for my family with two boys"

This thing is going to be a huge sucess.

Imagine how nice the next gen version of this would be. I did pre-order one, but then I sold it because I have no time to play and my backlog is huge. I'll get a holiday bundle later this year. Despite the strong success, I still Ninendo having trouble against $200 bundles from Microsoft and PlayStation these holidays. I could all be off on this... if I'm underestimating the people who like Nintnedo games, owned the Wii and skipped the Wii U.

Honestly, all Nintendo needs to do is copy the online functionality of ps4 and Xbox one and get the big third party games like GTA and I would stick with them for good. I picked up a 3DS a few months ago and the system and the games blow me away but I still can't believe how ass backwards their online is compared to the competition and online play is HUGE in today's world.

It's the console I always wanted since I first got my Gameboy Pocket with Donkey Kong Land and Link's Awakening.

"Yeah, this is good but I really wish I could play Donkey Kong Country and A Link to the Past."

I don't know man. A MARIO kart or zelda bundle this holiday for 299 would crush it.

A Nintendo Vita wouldn't have flopped. The issue with the vita wasn't the hardware. It was Sony.

I have installed an articulated arm on my bed so I can lie on my back and play Tumbleseed before bed. I don’t know if I am proud or ashamed to admit I have used the same mounting hardware to play Metal Slug in the bathtub.

I need to do this. Anybody have recommendations?

I'm observing the same thing. I think the real genius is having two controllers always with you, hence shareable. It's much more social than previous Nintendo handhelds, where everyone looked into their own screen.

I am itching to play more games on my Switch, it's definitely a system I really enjoy using.

Bring it on Nintendo.

I can only speak for myself but it's the perfect 'busy adult' console. As I get busier at work, have a kid at home and shit to do around the house my consistent PS4/PC time has dwindled significantly. But this little system adapts to what I need. If I have a quick 30 minutes to play on the big TV, slap Switch in and continue my game. If I have a long lunch break, turn on Switch and continue my game. If I just got the baby to sleep and I'm chilling in bed to unwind for the evening, turn on Switch and continue my game.

The fact that the Switch can consistently bring me the same experience whenever, wherever I need it is incredibly appealing to me. I'll take Wii U ports, new games, VC games, whatever because the killer app is the hardware itself, for me.

What I find funny is that there is a lot of justified talk about Nintendo competing with Sony in the console space, especially considering the success of the PS4 and their historically tepid third party support, but you have with that the additional conversation on how a company like Nintendo can manage to compete long term with the pervasiveness and overall convenience of the phone gaming market.

Somehow they may have managed to kill two birds with one stone.

Father of two here and this captures my experience with the Switch. My wife and I play Puyo Puyo Tetris daily...getting competitive! We had a Cinco de Mayo party and a bunch of non-gamers had a blast with Mariokart.

I started seeing the signs when there was that Switch hardware review before launch, (I forgot from what site) it was an email conversation between two guys where the one talking about the Switch had no interest in the system initially but once he started playing it for the first time he couldn't get enough of it because of the convenience of what it can do.

I still want to see something major like GTA V ported to this thing for me to be convinced this in not a fad :p

The salt in this thread...

Anyway, yeah, it's crazy, i have a co-worker that is obsessed with Mortal Kombat X, it's pretty much the only game he plays on his PS4, but since i got the Switch he comes to the IT department everyday on his lunch hour so we can play some games, since i got Mario Kart he doesn't talk about anything else.

But what if Sony brings Vita 2 this E3...
The Sony handheld brand awareness is practically dead. It's either a tablet or a Nintendo, Sony would be dumb to distract themselves from their successful console business to try to prop up another handheld. They're in the opposite situation as Nintendo. Sony will succeed as a console only manufacturer and Nintendo needed to turn their console into a handheld to survive.

And I would probably buy it. Despite all the success now, I think that Nintendo HAS to offer something. Historically we know that price is King. The great thing is that Nintendo has a great amount of word of mouth going for it. They should keep that momentum going and get the hardware into more hands EARLY instead of later.

The way you do that is offer cheaper pricing and attractive bundles.

This is significant to the company that's soon going to be charging a service fee for online play every year. At the same time hopefully Nintendo can improve their online experience to make that more attractive as well.

I do love mine, but I'm not sure it's speaking to many folk outside of the mainstream gamer circle yet. This is anecdotal from people who obviously have a circle of gamers, and even many people who post on forums, have a circle of gamers.

I don't see this becoming as big as Wii.

to most people that i've played the switch with, its just a home console. We play mario kart with controllers on a TV and that's what we've been doing for years. We could also undock it and play splitscreen MK8 with only 2 people on the small bullshit screen but that's not going to win anyone over.

I bet when pokemon and fire emblem proper come, it'll get more people to latch on. The hardware is nice for a handheld for a single person, and the home console experience is fine. It's going to be games that get people on it, but yeah I don't see it being as big as a wii.

Handheld people have nowhere else to go though, so who knows. That alone could be a big thing
