The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

Nah. I'm pretty much tearing up my cue cards and just saying "fuck it" at this point. Perhaps I should just look for some Simpsons memes to post.

Does it help if I tell you I appreciate the posts urging us to not lose the grip on our sanity?
The deck is just severely stacked against logical reason right now.

Seriously hoping they reveal the Smash plans with the console. I have a feeling when the Smash Ballot was referring to how it could be used for ideas in "future games," I have a feeling that could mean Smash NX (as well as games way in the future but especially NX).

If they have even a modest amount of new content lined up, it'll sell NXs like crazy.

I feel like, until a real tier list settles for Smash 4, I don't want to see it's successor.

The "tier list" itself doesn't mean anything, but that's just a general time frame for which the game wont' feel as "fresh" anymore.

This thread has had some people act terrible to her. Now she comes back with fuck my critics.

Seriously can anyone actually act like an adult in all of this?

Honestly wish this topic would just be locked till we get official info no matter who is right with all of the prognosticators not just Emily.

No one is being terrible. Why can't we agree to disagree?

This is how I'm picturing the situation :

Mods, here a question:

seeing as how many threads have been locked specifically because of twitter and seeing how this thread would be locked if its sole reason to exist would be Emily's claims over twitter, is it safe to conclude that the more twitter stuff gets posted the nearer it gets to getting locked?

or asked with other words:

Until it gets revealed, how do you want NX threads to roll? twitter kept to a minimum or not at all?

what are some guidlines we can take notice of?

New news gets a new thread. The thing I would caution is simply asking the question "is this thing I'm about to post actual news?" And I get it. That's debatable. But as a general rule of thumb, 140 character or less Tweets containing unverified information from questionable sources probably isn't something that's newsworthy until at a bare minimum more sources start picking up on it.

All I really want is the return of the Ice Climbers and around 2-3 newcomers, one of them being Inklings. Finishing up the DLC characters by giving them custom moves and Palutena Guidances is a must too. Hopefully all of that is reasonable given the time span of development they'd have (It's been almost a year since Corrin and Bayo were finished).

Then after that, Sakurai can have a decade long break.

Ha, perfect.

I wonder what "big news" means compared to just "news" or her previous hint (not definite statement) of a reveal. Also no one has said this will be officially from Nintendo. It could be a similar situation to the Eurogamer leak in July. Though I doubt it.

This sounds like a reveal announcement to me personally.

Honestly at this moment I'm a little bit more positive that there is at least something happening behind the curtains. Thinking about that we have others besides Emily who claim that there are Big News coming soon, makes me feel positive about this.

I have no insider knowledge at all, but I just have a good feeling that this is it. I think there won't be a disappointment this time.

Wait, how was I able to read that tweet? I always depended on quotes from others because you had to be an accepted follower. Or did she set her page to public now?

She made her profile public few days ago (once she expressed the utmost confidence), and said it's going to be public for next few weeks.

Considering how some on Twitter have targeted her and elsewhere, telling the critics to fuck off is pretty tame.

People. People. Calm down. Don't count your Torchics before they hatch. A watched pot never boils. Logical thinking is the key to success. A picture is worth a thousand words. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Hold on to your sanity, it's too late for some of us.

May I interest you in some salt?

I think you either misunderstand my position, or I haven't articulated myself properly. My issue is not that you literally have to ignore them to the extent that you pretend that they don't exist. What I'm trying to say is that there comes a point where criticism stops being constructive and just becomes fuel for the fire. It becomes counterproductive. Instead of calmly explaining why they're not the most reliable pundits out there, it becomes almost vitriolic and just adds to their notoriety.

I can't speak for other people, but my reaction to an Emily Rogers rumor is to consider it plausible but certainly not consider it some confirmed fact. It might pan out. It might not. I don't get invested in it. If you're someone who thinks that she's wrong all the time, you can note that much and explain why, but I honestly don't think it helps the situation to get involved in this battle about the notorious figure that is Emily Rogers. It's silly to make the story about her and not what she's predicting. Giving her more attention just signals to other people that -- right or wrong -- she's a figure worth paying attention to. And if your endgame is "she's the mayor of Wrong Town and I wish she would go away" then this is not a good course of action.
I agree that some people can get too aggressive with her, but that's a small portion of the people who distrust her. Most people can easily articulate their feelings about her without resorting to insults.

I still don't think that ignoring someone helps at all, at least not when that person is popular enough to recieve a lot of attention. For instance: I don't think Trump deserves any attention, but ignoring him won't make him go away, because too many people think he is worth paying attention to. At this point, it is better to call Trump out on his wrong-doings then to let him get away with doing and saying horrible things.

YES! Go Emily!

At this point I really don't know how Nintendo will match the hype in this thread, it's like they are destined to disappoint... Then again I said the same about their E3 and came out pleasantly surprised so what do I know?

Oh man...she's really going all in that it's going to happen this week. I hope it's legit, because all of this up and down over the past month or so has been rough. I know it's just a stupid game console, but for some reason it means a lot more than that to me. Obviously I'm not alone in that, but I hope things don't start getting super negative and harsh in here. The mods have been pretty merciful thus far in keeping this thread open, which I assume is more an issue of keeping the madness in one place.

I can't wait to see what happens!

I would give her a break, i don't think she means it. She is just sick about it, but who not?

Btw Nate, what are your sources saying? Friday NX?

I've been meaning to ask, is there a point trying to add a summary of events in the OP?

I mean, someone clicking for the first time will think we are all a bunch of idiots with a serious obsessive compulsive disorder,

it hasn't been just emily, there are other reputable sources, some of them going against each other with their predictions.

is there a point adding the events so far or better just let it roll??

sounds reasonable.

So here's something interesting. I was skimming through Cadence's blog, and particularly their report on TSMC's most recent tech symposium last month. While reading through their part on the InFO packaging tech, this particular line caught my eye:

Cadence blog said:
NVIDIA has a part in production with a logic chip and a four-die HBM stack

Note that they're talking about a singular four-die HBM stack. Assuming we're talking about HBM2 (there's not really any way it could be anything else) this means it's a 4GB stack with bandwidth around 200-256GB/s. This means it's not a GPU, as it's neither enough bandwidth nor capacity for high-end cards, and it's going to be too expensive for more entry-level cards (where 200GB/s can be easily achieved with much cheaper GDDR5).

That leaves SoCs. Xavier is obviously the most likely candidate, although even that would be a bit of a surprise. Not just the bandwidth (I honestly have no idea what kind of bandwidth deep learning requires), but that I'd be surprised that they would be so heavily power constrained as to avoid GDDR5(/X), which could also give them much more capacity for their money.

The other option is NX. HBM2 would, of course, be absolutely insane overkill for a handheld. There's no way Nintendo would need more bandwidth than PS4 Pro, with a system perhaps a tenth as powerful and a vastly more bandwidth efficient GPU architecture. And yet, from Gamecube/Wii's 1T-SRAM to 3DS's FCRAM and ample SRAM, to Wii U's big eDRAM pool, Nintendo clearly loves expensive specialist RAM which is tightly coupled to the CPU and GPU. I would also expect HBM2 to consume a bit too much power for a mobile application, but we're only talking about a single stack, and I suppose it's possible that they could be clocking it down to 100-150GB/s to sit at a more comfortable point in the power curve. Lastly is obviously the expense, but only using a single die and InFO (which avoids the need for a silicon substrate) might just potentially pull this down to less than catastrophic level.

If I were a betting man I'd certainly put my money on Xavier being the chip they're talking about, and Nintendo going with a more typical LPDDR4 solution perhaps with a decent sized shared L3 cache. That said, it would be the first Nintendo device in a long time to go with the "typical solution" for RAM.

sounds reasonable.

There hasn't been much of significance to update the OP with yet imo. Though, the WSJ information might be worth posting.
