The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

I have a WSJ account here's some more from that article,

WHAT TO WATCH:

NX UPDATES: Nintendo is expected to announce its plan on how it would unveil its next-generation videogame platform, code-named “NX,” when Chief Executive Tatsumi Kimishima meets the press next Wednesday and analysts the day after. It is unlikely—though not impossible—that the company would talk about the NX this week via online presentations. A Nintendo spokesman said the company plans to share more about the NX by the end of this year; the launch is scheduled to occur by March.

POKÉMON GO WATCH: The second-quarter results will provide the first financial indications on the blockbuster smartphone app Pokémon Go. The game was developed by Nintendo affiliate Pokémon Co. and Niantic Inc., an Alphabet Inc. spinout in which Nintendo also invested. In July, Nintendo said it expected no major financial contribution from the game. Nintendo may also provide more fresh data, including sales of the game’s wearable device—Pokémon Go Plus—which Nintendo was in charge of making.

NO CORPORATE STRATEGY MEETING: Nintendo often holds a meeting to brief media and analysts on its strategy soon after it reports second-quarter earnings. Last year, Nintendo used the occasion to announce its first smartphone game, Miitomo. But the Nintendo spokesman said there are no such meetings planned for this year.

3DS GAME TITLES: Nintendo is phasing out its flagship console Wii U to focus on the NX. As a result, its popular but aging hand-held 3DS game machine will be one of the company’s few weapons for the coming holiday season. Nintendo prepared many strong titles to boost sales of the 3DS, including a new Pokémon game, Super Mario Maker and Miitopia, which has been a bit of a mystery. Nintendo has promised to talk more about it by the end of the year.

Anyone a WSJ sub that can give better details?

The only important news is that there's no corporate strategy meeting planned.

You'd think they'd be having one if they were finally going to reveal some details about NX during the financial results.

Some updates from Takashi Mochizuki:

No Corporate Management Policy Briefing is quite significant, could mean lesser info on NX. I'm still excited for the earnings release events next week though.

That surprises me too, but it doesn't mean much of anything either about the timing of the actual reveal (which definitely wouldn't have been at such a meeting).

If the reveal is before the 26th, the strategy meeting would have been largely redundant; if the reveal is after the 26th, they wouldn't have much of anything to announce there anyway.

Thank you guys for the responses

10k your trick worked too lmao

but yeah article seems to know not a lot more than we already did

:(

That's what I was trying to point out with my edit but my phone is acting slow.

The lack of such a meeting could mean NX gets revealed beforehand.

Expected

Zelda Breath of the Wild
Smash NX
Beyond Good & Evil 2
Sonic 2017
Pikmin 4
(Wii Sports / NintendoLand)-esque proof-of-concept title
Retro Studios title
Dragon Quest X & XI
(Not for America)
2D Mario (hopefully not a NSMB game)

Expected, but probably announced next year

3D Mario
Mario Kart 9
Expanded Super Mario Maker NX
Spla2oon

Dream announcements

Warioware NX (or Warioware DIY2)
Animal Crossing NX
The Wonderful 102
Panel de Pon NX
SNES remix
Random Kirby title (Air Ride 2 or maybe a Kirby RPG this time)

I think DQXI will come stateside. X won't though. Ship sailed LONG ago unless they transform it into a solo RPG somehow

Missing Pokemon and I would also take out Pikmin since it is more than likely that Pikmin 3DS was Pikmin 4.

That WSJ article basically deflates any chance that the reveal will be in October

What?

I don't get why some people are getting into despair over an opinion and lack of news.

If anything, the corporate strategy meeting not being held gives us a clearer picture of what could happen in the next 7 days.

Jesus, just show the thing already!

Since this thread is all about prediction so I'm going to steal this thread for a question.

What games do everyone think we are going to see being announced along with NX? Since it was implied that we are going to see Mario 3D at E3 2017 or so, and I have a gut feeling that we wouldn't see a trailer of Mario Kart 9 until next year as well.

Many want to see a Smash NX on the grounds that it'll combine content from both versions of 4, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same with Hyrule Warriors.

also Pikmin 4 plz

how now brown cow

3D Mario would've been my #1 choice but since that seems off the table...I really dunno.

Can someone give a quick rundown of the new development to a guy who has no clue what this WSJ stuff is?

TLDR: WSJ states Nintendo will not have a "meeting to brief media and analysts on its strategy soon after it reports second-quarter earnings". Other than that, WSJ knows just about as much as we do about when the hell Nintendo will announce the NX.

I'm really sensing that they're going to have Smash at or near launch and it will have enough new content for them to market it as one of the console's flagship launch period titles. I would be utterly shocked if the Smash NX game was a port of the Wii U title with no new content because in no normal universe is that a very enticing purchase to the many people who already have Smash Wii U or 3DS.

So basically, Smash Hype reengaged.

WSJ, also known as the Weekly Shonen Jump is a magazine which is released weekly showing off the latest chapters of popular manga for young male teenagers such as One Piece.

I think Mario Maker killed my hype for any 2D Mario for awhile.

They just gotta give it a fresh take. New look, lots of new mechanics and enemies, the whole nine yards.

Also relevant I just played Mario Maker for the first time since receiving it from gamefly. Not really up my alley tbh. The alternate costumes were cool though.

Cool, thanks, Chris Pratt :)

So, if there's no regular meeting next week, is it safe to say that NX news should come soon, unless Ninty really is going for a media blackout?

You... You... Smart...ie pants.

I actually thought you all were talking about Wall Street Journal

I think they need a new look and physics, but mechanics? Not really. Maybe different power-ups and focus on them (Flower, Cape, Yoshi, Fire and Ice). Enemies? Sure, couldn't hurt.

There is always a Nintendo quarterly earnings realease each year without an investors briefing the next day. If I remember correctly there wasn't one last October or the October before, it's not unusual.

Edit: Just clarified with the WSJ Analyst: they do skip one but not normally this one!

Nintendo not mentioning anything substantial about the NX at their next investor's meeting would be unwise on Nintendo's part unless they want to deal with angry investors.

The outlier is the Second Quarter Earnings Release, that rarely has a briefing for analysts and shareholders. Last October actually had a Corporate Management Policy Briefing, same for 2014: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/151029/index.html

Also, there likely will be a briefing on October 27, just not a Corporate Management Policy Briefing.

The problem is, we are one week away and they still haven't scheduled it.
