The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

I always liked the idea of singular software over your choice of hardware better. People will complain regardless of what Nintendo does, though. The jar of madness that is this thread has proven that.
I keep coming in, though, and I can't look away.

Not actually. I know people at NOA who were asked by people like Aonuma and Sakurai what reaction is to characters or other decisions.

That's actually interesting. I know someone from Treehouse mentioned that but I wonder how Sakurai felt if he heard some negative remarks about certain characters.

I'm a huge proponent of all software appearing on one platform, but you choose your hardware.

Microsoft is doing it with console and PC. Many of us hoped Nintendo was doing that with console and hand held. One library but you choose the hardware. This one machine fits all franken-portable is the exact opposite of what I want. I also don't think the market will react well to it.

Pretty much the same opinion on this whole thing. Hopefully it will turn out differently and I'll like the product, but I'm pretty apprehensive for now.

Wouldn't that mean Nintendo have to build two devices that is powerful enough to play from a single library? Why not just build one first?

Since this thread is all about prediction so I'm going to steal this thread for a question.

What games do everyone think we are going to see being announced along with NX? Since it was implied that we are going to see Mario 3D at E3 2017 or so, and I have a gut feeling that we wouldn't see a trailer of Mario Kart 9 until next year as well.

Fucking Donkey Kong.

Expected:
Zelda (Obvious)
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Smash NX
Retro Title (Please Be DKR)

Maybe:
Metroid
2D Mario
Some racing title if not DKR
3D Donkey Kong

Dream:
Wave Race
F-Zero
Marvel vs Capcom 4

Obviously not all of these, but I'm guessing that we will get five at least.

-Nintendoland 2 with online multiplayer
-Kirby Air Ride sequel.

My (conservative) guesses...

- New Retro IP
- Mario Maker DX
- Smash Bros. for NX
- Spla2n (this could be saved for E3, but I think it'd be awesome to show confidence by having the Wii U's best new IP on a more accessible system right off the bat)
- New tech demo-ish IP
- New Platinum game
- Monster Hunter game
- Maybe a game or two each from Square Enix, Namco, Level-5, and Atlus (probably ports or multiplats, maaaybe an exclusive here and there)
- Maybe a Metroid tease or something

Taking a nap and refreshing this thread may have been the biggest mistake of my life. Like, worse than my rumors :p

This. Nailed it.

This is where I am at. I feel like lots of folks are not realizing the benefits of a company like Nintendo consolidating development for one platform.

Me? If I can play all Nintendo's games in one place, I am sold. If I can choose to play those games at a higher rez on my TV? Even better. If any company can do this right, it's Nintendo right now.

I want Nintendo to consolidate third-party development onto one platform - their own.

Expecting:

Zelda BOTW
Pikmin 4
Splatoon re-release
Smash port + two newcomers
Beyond Good & Evil 2
Bayonetta 3
Metroid

Some of those will be revealed at E3 rather than the NX event but I do think all of these exist.

It's good to see I'm not the only person expecting to see Retros game at the NX reveal. I'm also expecting Mario just like the Wii had and Wii U had prior to their respective launches.

Zelda BOTW
New Super Mario Bros. X
Wii Sports/Nintendoland-esque tech demo collection
Ubisoft shovelware (with Beyond Good & Evil 2 nowhere to be found until Vivendi-Ubisoft's E3 press confrence where it's announced for PS4/X1/PC with no NX version)
Creepy anime bullshit (this IS gonna be a handheld after all)
Some winks and nods to a new Retro game (that will just turn out to be Mario Kart 9), Smash NX, Splatoon 2, etc.

These are my expectations:

- Breath of the Wild NX Version
- Smash NX Version
- Retro new IP
- Beyond Good and Evil tease
- Platinum new project

Don't take this as me being condescending or adversarial, but who isn't expecting this? I mean, there may be disagreement about whether it's Metroid, Donkey Kong, or something completely new. But what else would Retro have been doing this whole time if not working on a game that's going to be ready for the NX launch window?

Everytime I've mentioned I fully expect Retros game to be at the NX reveal I'll have a few people say "they would save that for E3 2017" or "they wouldn't want to spill all their games at the reveal".

And I say why not? How important is the first impression? Nintendo does not want another repeat of the Wii U. They couldn't get it down two E3's in a row. They need to have it clear from the beginning and give confidence to gamers that there will be plenty of games and a steady amount of games atleast for the first year.

WSJ article this week as expected.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/nintendo-second-quarter-earnings-what-to-watch-1476850219

NO CORPORATE STRATEGY MEETING: Nintendo often holds a meeting to brief media and analysts on its strategy soon after it reports second-quarter earnings. Last year, Nintendo used the occasion to announce its first smartphone game, Miitomo. But the Nintendo spokesman said there are no such meetings planned for this year.

NX UPDATES: Nintendo is expected to announce its plan on how it would unveil its next-generation videogame platform, code-named “NX,” when Chief Executive Tatsumi Kimishima meets the press next Wednesday and analysts the day after. It is unlikely—though not impossible—that the company would talk about the NX this week via online presentations. A Nintendo spokesman said the company plans to share more about the NX by the end of this year; the launch is scheduled to occur by March.

That's all that is relevant for NX I think.

Expected

Zelda Breath of the Wild
Smash NX
Beyond Good & Evil 2
Sonic 2017
Pikmin 4
(Wii Sports / NintendoLand)-esque proof-of-concept title
Retro Studios title
Dragon Quest X & XI
(Not for America)
2D Mario (hopefully not a NSMB game)

Expected, but probably announced next year

3D Mario
Mario Kart 9
Expanded Super Mario Maker NX
Spla2oon

Dream announcements

Warioware NX (or Warioware DIY2)
Animal Crossing NX
The Wonderful 102
Panel de Pon NX
SNES remix
Random Kirby title (Air Ride 2 or maybe a Kirby RPG this time)

At least he doesn't completely rule out news for this week...

Anyone a WSJ sub that can give better details?

Nintendo has also been hiring really steadily for Retro out of Austin for a while now. Something may be ramping up, or wrapping up?

It says that it's expected for Kimishima to give details on how they'll unveil the NX in the investor's meeting. Just speculation on their part, they also say it's unlikely but not impossible for it to be revealed in an online presentation before then
