So I think there's literally 0 chance at anyone taking over Canada's #1 gold spot at this point. Germany would have to gold in both 4 man bobsled (where they currently sit third) and tomorrow's cross country skiing just to tie it up. Everything else is guaranteed to other countries.

We should be at like 13 golds if women's curling didn't shit the bed yesterday. Oh well atleast 2 more golds to come from mens curling and hockey!
Noo, don't remind me. :( I remember it so clearly, she had it until her last rock.

Jen Heil at the beginning of the Olympics was equally devastating.

What really sucks is that the Own the Podium program can't be deemed a failure at this point, and they might keep this stupid name. Personally, I hate my tax dollars supporting athletes and artists, damn bong-smoking hippies.

The Olympics aren't as fun as they used to be, as evidenced by this 1968 anecdote:

Killy also swept the other men’s Alpine events, but only after one of the greatest controversies in the history of the Winter Olympics. Austrian superstar Karl Schranz claimed that a mysterious man in black crossed his path during the slalom race, causing him to skid to a halt. Given a restart, Schranz beat Killy’s time. However, a Jury of Appeal disqualified Schranz and gave the medal to Killy.[2]

It's possible, but not counting on it in Bobsleigh. But to win tonight in curling, to tie, and to go ahead after winning in Hockey, would be spectacular.

But it has already been a great success, I'm so happy at how things have turned out for Canada.

Except Jenn Heil didn't choke. She put down a spectacular run and was just beaten squarely by the American. Cherl Bernard, although has always been a pretty clutch performer, choked on that last shot.

Jen Heil was NOWHERES near as bad. Yes, disappointing given that she was the defending gold medalist, but at least she had a great run and was sitting in gold medal position. She got beat be a better performance. Our curling team beat themselves.

You'd rather use the money to support drug users and the homeless?

Not that I have anything against the homeless, but you know, culture and sports help a country a lot.

Besides, have you never played Civ? Having a kickass culture is a much more awesome way to expand your empire than just having a powerful army.

Just read this : U.S. Olympian arrested

They're not saying who's involved, guess I'll have to wait at least few minutes for a full report from TMZ.
That was on Thursday, it was Bill Schuffenhauer, a member of the US bobsleigh team.

He was released on bail and was allowed to compete. He has to return to face charges later.

Edit: Beaten.

Man, these games have come and gone so fast. Only 5 more medals left in the entire games. 3 more today, 2 tomorrow.

Still can't believe we had no gold medals in our home soil...two weeks ago. Feels like a distant memory.

Indeed. When I watched Bilodeau win, I felt like I was watching an epic piece of history. Now its like "how many can we get?"

Nope, I'd rather have lower taxes.

Not that I have anything against the homeless, but you know, culture and sports help a country a lot.

Canada has already built its five stadiums for that bonus. Time to build up the nukes!

I do love the Olympics. Rampant nationalism, action for hours every day, accusations of cheating, attempts at being gracious and united under one olympic sky when other nations win, but mostly a lot of great athletes doing shit we normally never see in prime time. What an invention.

Now let's see the canadian curling crowd (CCC) weep ;)

Someone let me know what is going on since in the US, we don't care enough to show this event on NBC or MSNBC. For fuck's sake...
