NBC is showing crap, CNBC is showing crap, and MSNBC is showing coverage of the "tsunami" wave in hawaii.

So, 26 will be Canada's final medal haul. 27 if we can somehow pull one out in the mens 50km cross country tomorrow.

Only 4 more medals to be handed out for these games: mens curling, mens hockey bronze, 50km cross country, and gold medal hockey.

Yeah, they think they are cute holding it all for precious primetime. It is Saturday for crying out loud, all day is a good time for sports. But no, why don't you air 2 hours of "Canada loved us during the 9-11 tragedy" instead of showing live Olympics coverage you paid millions for.

Screw you, I will already know the outcome of all the events. I won't be watching your network.

Daaaamn, you guys are getting buttfucked in the US with respect to coverage. Here in Canada, Id honestly give CTV an A+ for their coverage. Not only do they have three unique networks always running unique events and coverage, but all three are also available streaming online. I have been able to see EVERY event I wanted to, LIVE. MUCH better than CBC (who usually has the Olympic contract). I hope CTV continues winning the Canadian Olympic television bid. Very impressed.

NBC is so terrible. They literally don't show anything live except for figure skating and Ohno. Even events that happen in prime time are shown tape delayed because they have their set schedule and human interest stories to get through.

I really really hope ABC/ESPN wins the rights after 2014.

I'm a CBC fanboy but yes, agreed. They're doing amazing. I didn't expect this at all. Also, props to Microsoft for Silverlight which is so much better than Flash with regards to quality and features. Live streaming and able to rewind for free with annotated bookmarks added on the fly? yes plz.

Yep, the streaming is the real marvel for me. Being able to jump from TSN to Sportsnet to CTV in 3 seconds and getting a nice, clean feed at all times, for free, is incredible. The only hitch I find is that the streams tend to run about 15-30 seconds behind, but thats nothing I cant handle.

Oh how I would love this. Although I am not sure if Disney would be willing to match the insane amount of money that NBC pays for the rights to show the Olympics

Seems like Silverlight is an international thing, we've had it here as well. Love the annotated bookmarks so much when I watch the re-runs.

edit: Shit this throw will be difficult.

At the rate NBC is going, I doubt they can actually afford to bid for another Olympics now.

I've enjoyed curling so much these olympics that I actually spent $4 on a curling game in the app store for my iPhone. It's called "Age of Curling". Pretty good.

John Dunbar

correct about everything
Question about curling from someone who doesn't know anything about the sport: When you have a 2 or more point lead, why don't you just hit your opponent's stones away with every throw?

You can't hit the opponents first 1/4 shots in the end.

NBC is going to lose like 200 million on these Olympics, and overall they are in big big trouble.

Sometimes they do that for the latter stones, but Norway has the hammer so all they'd have to do is draw to the button for an easy point. (Though one point an end is not really the best strategy.)

Depending on how many ends are left, you have to try and set your self up for the future. You can't just play for the end you're in now, forethought is a must.

The greatest face-palm must be reserved for NBC deciding to tape delay the west coast feed, such that popular events don't conclude until nearly midnight. We're in the same time zone as Vancouver, yet see events after the east coast. Wut? All to preserve ad revenue. Don't penalize me for you overbidding, you fucks.

The human interest angle is groan-inducing (especially, the ever-present jingoism). The lack of variety in coverage (3 minutes for the medal positions doesn't count) is infuriating. And Al Michaels. Fuck.

Thankfully, ABC/ESPN has the rights to the 2010 World Cup. Their coverage has been pretty good in years past.

The real reason to why the Best Nordic Combined athletes were forced to jump in such shitty conditions

The International Ski Federation (FIS) simplified the sport two years ago in a bid to boost television audiences and is now looking to the United States.

"For the global growth of the sport, having these huge successes of the Americans here, it's vital," said Egon Theiner, spokesman for the FIS Nordic Combined programme.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. Ahem.

GE accountants bumped that number up to $250 million. Throw in huge money loss on Conan, NBC has done abysmal during the start of 2010.
