The Official Burnout Paradise Thread. Restarting Events Patch!

This game is so pretty. These tweaks make it look down right gorgeous. Burnout next will be a beast. The way they're supporting this is keeping the game so fresh. There's something about the way this game looks now, that just has this "my eyes burning from the amazing" like stardust or zone mode wipeout hd zone mode look. The HDR or something is different.

Wasn't one of the main criticisms of the game when it came out was that it didn't quite look on-par with better next-gen racers? Like Dirt, PGR & GT: Prologue. I mean it doesn't look too much ahead of the the 360 port of Burnout Revenge. It looks good, but in the good art & 60fps/high res kind of way. There is definitely room for improvement from a technical point.

I'm having way too much fun with this game. I just got my Rossolini Tempesta for getting A license. It's so addicting to just drive around trying to see how many burnouts I can string together (so far my max is 8). The sense of speed is just incredible.

I absolutely love all the classical music they included to contrast the pop/punk stuff. Careening down the freeway in road rage sending twisted wrecks flying in every direction to the sound of Georges Bizet's Habanera is pretty damn awesome.

Good art and solid 60 fps is all you need if it works.

I have no idea, but I'm sure not on of the people that said that. The game had me all kinds of impressed since I got it in August. It got me even more impressed when they added day and night cycles. And now with the TKO on these tweaks on the day and night look, hdr effects, and the new colors.

Oh and it is an open world sandbox game. IGN would give it a 11 since it's also 60fps. I also like GTA SA so going around with this rock solid famerate may also play a part in it.

ok why the fuck did they break the sound? why cant i listen to music normally now? nice touch making it sound like ur listening from outside the car but it should be optional not default. WTF.

Doesn't that apply to just one or a couple of cars (I recall a SUV triggering that muffled effect)? Or is it like that whatever the car now?

i think ur right. was it always that way? kinda annoying.

They introduced this (indeed annoying and not really necessary) thing a couple of updates ago. I recall people complaining on the official criterion forums back then but then I realized it was just one car so I shrugged.

That's ridiculous. The best way to support Criterion's free updates is to download them and play the game some more. Those updates are funded by ad revenue, which is based on the number of people playing the game.

The premium DLC will pay for itself. Or it won't. If you're not interested in local multiplayer (controller swapping) for this game, you shouldn't spend $10 on the Party Pack. No one should feel obligated to do so just because they appreciate the free updates.

I DID buy the party pack and I have no intention of playing it. But I bought the game used for $9 at a video rental store so I figured that I might as well. What Criterion really needs to do is to release a Premium NXE background.

I just had a 5 hour online session. I never really drifted in the game until I learned how to tonight (I've always tried handbrake but that basically stops you, I didn't realize that it was as arcadey as Ridge Racer in this regard), and it does seem to play more like RRV once you realize it.

I am now officially in on the burnout paradise party!

Friends own the regular version and I've had my fair share of plays on it, but today I was shopping around for a cheap copy of Grid (still need to buy that game) and I was just about to give up until I saw the ultimate box on sale. Now I not been snooping around gaf lately due to being busy but I thought this was out in march? anyway the boxes looked like place holders but I took it to the couter anyway, brought :D

With this and Fallout taking over my gaming free time, my final year at university is not looking so good :lol

some random thoughts after I got the PC version and started a new game (already had Platinum in PS3 but I love this game so much)

- loving the PC version with the 360 controller, showtime mode running at 60 fps is impressive, everything is prettier, the subtle blur is just the ice on the cake.

- not digging the retry option, I understand people wanting it patched in, but I feel like I'm cheating my way through the game... races aren't that intense anymore

- lots of menus getting in the way, store links everywhere, and that Paradise cars/bikes menu is not needed IMO.

- I mostly appreciate the graphical overhaul, but how about getting an option to switch back and forth between looks? it must be nostalgia or something but I really liked how the game looked from the start.

How the hell do you do stunt runs? It's impossible now I have the Elite license...
It should be much easier with the sluggish timer pie introduced by the V1.60 update. Don't go too fast, boost a split-second (or reverse) to reset the timer pie, head to a place where you can rack up multipliers (South Bay Expressway, Rockridge Dam, Lone Peaks Quarry, Railway Tracks), flat spin at every occasion for reverse air, don't be too greedy with barrel rolls, plot your course and repeat it, take breaks. That's how got my 40x multiplier Paradise Award.

has anyone taken any screens of before and after graphical updates? It would be interesting to see them next to each other.

*edit* this game is dripping with awesome, I love how new cars just drop from what is probably a crane when you unlock them, all f'd up and everything :lol

OH SHIT! I just used a short cut which launched me miles in the air only to land on the main train bridge, oh my god...

The slow motion crashes basically destroy any desire I have to play this game. I feel like some programmer is wanking in my face forcing me to watch his fancy physics engine when I just want to play the game.

you can make the crashes go at normal speed.

So I just dipped into the bikes...

I think PGR4 has a new rival in how fun motorbikes can be :D

Haha and while I type this the driver turned the bike off and the camera is pannning around paradise city with classical music playing, this game never stops giving!

before this update , entering the game was smooth ..just boot it ..one loading screen and here you go .

now ..there are tonz of crap ..Car or Bikes screen ..Online screen ..crap shit screen it'd like I am in funky porn site..seriously this is batshitfuck annoying

and still no weather setting , there is one for day and night times but nothing for the weather , damn those English people and their fog/mist love , people 1966 Will never happen again because of shit like this .

Yeah, still not sure what I'm supposed to appreciate when it comes to that news/weather screen at boot up. Complete waste of time.

And while the loading times in-game are fantastic, it's insane how tedious picking a car is.

This game looks so great now, I've had it since release and with the new patch I caught myself thinking how awesome it looked! I really like what they did with the lighting. Add me if anyone wants to do challenges or whatever.

PSN: Xen0n56

I never succombed to a Crackdown agility orb addiction, but damn if I don't want to smash through all the gates and billboards in BP. I'm down to like 35 remaining gates, and finding them, I fully suspect, is going to drive me absolutely insane.

Other than the initial screens, I've got no prblems with the latest update. Great stuff.

And whoever designed this city is an absolute EVIL GENIUS. God, so complex, so tight - it's like the greatest thing ever.

Can't believe how long I've had this game and how much I'm still into it...

Playing on PS3. As of last night, I'm sending back 360 #3 and eagerly waiting on #4. Fun!

Maybe it's because I took a break, but maybe it's the patch. Either way, I'm having tons of fun with this game now. Good game, Criterion.

I love all the tweaks and the new look to the game but it shouldn't take seven button presses to start playing. :|

I swear they've made all the cars slower?

I know the first batch were confirmed to be slower, but the points for all the cars have been decreased.

They removed the "news page" on PS3 to make room for a web-based in-game site. And since the Xbox 360 doesn't have a web browser...
It's like they did it BECAUSE they know the 360 doesn't have a web browser, wtf Criterion:lol
I still love them <3

I decided to give this game another shot (mostly because of the $20 price tag now), after not caring for the demo a year ago. When does the update come out for the restart feature? If I like it, I'm debating whether to get it for 360 or just download it on PS3.

Everything is out (both for PS3 and 360)

That's what I get for being hot/cold with keeping up with this thread. Thanks! I'll give it a while longer, but I'm not going to go insane over it...

One other thing: it kills me (and maybe it's just me), but there are entire portions of the city that I'm only seeing for the first time, and I've got like 10-15 hours into it. Yesterday, tooling around looking for gates, I found the quarry and the train yard (downtown) for the first time. Either I suck at exploring, or it's just easy to get caught up in the events and such, which don't necessarily ever take you off the beaten path, so to speak...

I believe it's already out, but I brought the ultimate box today which features all the latest updates and content on the disc.

Looking at the wiki it says America is not getting the ultimate box? I thought it was coming out everywhere as it's seriously worth the value, also sexy white box art.

*edit* just to add, I can restart and my 360 is offline since a few weeks back.

Yeah I liked the demo. I don't think I gave it a fair shake, since I'm not too crazy about driving games.

I heard America is getting the Ultimate Box for PC, but not on consoles. Now I just need to decide whether to get it for PS3 or 360. I am an achievement whore, but it would be nice to just have it on my PS3's HDD.

The ultimate box is also on the PSN store for $29.99 for ps3 owners that want to go DD.

anyways. i've played the game for 8 hours so far. really good. mostly just driving around finding gates and billboard. 14% completed of the game. Time to do races :lol

You do a few races with the cars and start to get a little tired, so you head to the garage to change vehicle and select bikes, it's a completely fresh feeling again!

I been playing for like 4 hours now swapping between cars and bikes I love it.

BTW how do I unlock the last 2 bikes, beat all events?

I'm a little surprised that Criterion has been able to update almost every aspect of the game and yet the soundtrack hasn't been touched. I guess that's a whole other can of worms but that soundtrack is really really stale.

It almost seems like it was out of Criterion's hands and instead, was focus-grouped by EA. A Burnout game has never had a good soundtrack though, so I don't know. The Brits like their screamo.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Seems like they took out the option to enter sponsor codes for secret cars. I'd recommend anyone to get that sorted out before committing to the 1.6 patch. All previous unlocked cars(BestBuy, Walmart, etc...) stay unlocked but I for instance can't figure out how to add the 'steel wheels' car for instance now.

I know, I hate that. :(

I kinda liked the GameStop car, admittedly.

Some of these changes are fucking strange. On the PS3 you can't change your custom soundtrack when you freeburn anymore...

My selections in the Options menu aren't saved anymore either. They reset everytime I quit the game. Criterion should've tested this shit before releasing it.
i know, both of these things are pissing me off. why they hell did they take out the ability to chage the soundtrack online?

at this point, i'd rather go back before the patch. it means that much to me.
