Good luck. It actually gets harder and harder the less you have to do. Unless you're really good at convincing people to play the challenges you want, or can manage to start a server and fill it yourself. The going gets really tough.
I almost always do challenges in a room I host myself, otherwise it's too hit and miss... Sure, it can take (a lot of) time to get a good game going, but when it finally clicks, it feels great. At least I can kick out those who don't take part, and I can choose the challenges I want. Sometimes I also satisfy requests from players in the group, if they need to do certain challenges.

That's your loss then, but game makers don't exist in a vacuum, and sometimes things change. They promised a Year of Paradise, and they delivered it free of charge. Tell me what other game gets support like this more than one year after its release? For fuck's sake, the Bike pack was supposed to be paid for, and it was released for free. I guess them changing their minds didn't bother you so much back then...

Life is a tough ride, and then Criterion come along and make it worse. Mind the magazine rack on your way out.

I spent my money towards it to support there whole "Free content" thing they had going. I even convinced 2 friends to buy it because of the promised content and the whole "There adding a whole new island!" This was nothing more than a bait and switch on criterions part to sell copys.

The lesson of this gen:
Don't buy stuff for future potentials, buy them cause you're actually going to enjoy what you're buying.

(which I cam hardly believe that you didn't)

Well, they DID add a lot of free content, and they WILL add a whole new island. The game's online component is already pretty much endless without it, so I sure hope your friends don't feel short-changed :D

I seriously doubt it was Criterion...I think EA had a bigger part in this. That being said are you saying Criterion don't deserve to release pay for DLC? They have been awesome at supporting BP...

As someone else said above me...they haven't short-changed anyone and infact they have supported their game even a year on...which is a very rare thing. :D

I got Burnout Paradise when it came out, it has since gotten more free DLC than I recall being promised.
Even when they decided that the bike pack should be free, all they ever said was "a year of Burnout", that all 2008 DLC would be free.

Besides, anyone complaining about Burnout's DLC situation is an idiot and I have no use for them.

Metalic Sand said:
Island is no longer free? So much for Criterion being awesome..... Back to failing i see.

I didnt mind the vehicle packs being payed content but you dont go out and label something as free for months then just go "Hey its no longer free" F you criterion.
"Failing"? Damn you are fickle.

It's most likely not their fault. It's actually amazing that they released so much stuff for free. They do deserve the money and surely EA didn't want to lose the opportunity to earn more. Developers are not the ones who ask you for money, publishers are.

But fine, don't get the island. We will enjoy it and give them their deserved credit instead. We don't care about what you do when you think that a developer "fails" because its publisher wants to make money. Way to go.

They rightfully deserve to release pay DLC, But dont go out and promise all these "Free" things and never deliver them as free content.

I enjoyed the game alot. Im done derailing!

I doubt it has anything to do with EA. They've said that EA doesn't get into their business like that. They've also said that there was going to be paid content so they never planned for every single thing to be free. It sounds like they're just being honest, the island ended up being much more than they originally planned and they feel that it's worth some cash. Of all the devs this gen when it comes to DLC, Criterion is the one that deserves the benefit of the doubt when they say something.

I picked up the game again, this time on the PSN so I can never get rid of it. I remembered how much I loved it. Criterion are some of the best at their craft.

By the way guys, I did a power park between 2 cars on my first try this time. No more pulling a birdman here.

This is correct. If you can't promise something as being free then don't promise it as free.

It's too bad you feel this way.

Criterion already delivered a healthy amount of add-on content for free. It would have been nice to have the Island pack for free also, but if you watch last week's Crash TV, they say that it's grown substantially from the original vision and they essentially reworked the entire island from the ground up. With that in mind, it's understandable why they'd make it a paid download.

Not everything always turns out as it was originally planned, but in many ways this may be better, as we appear to be getting a more fully developed expansion as a result.

So don't say it'll be free when you have no idea. This is mostly about the ethics of said situation not about the fact that you have to pay for it.

No, the retry thing is paid DLC.

Where have they said that? The only mention i've seen for the restart feature is that it'll be in Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box from the start. I haven't seen any mention of how they'll make it available to people who already own the game.

It's in this thread somewhere.

when is this patch coming?

although i understand not having this option in the original game, once you get to the point where challenges are few and far apart it would come in handy. i will buy it if the dlc is cheap.... it fucking better be.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
I just knew when I came in to this thread that because of all the free content Criterion had released that no one would be bitching when they decided to charge for some content.... I just new that it would be ok because people would be happy with all that free content that had been released previously that they'd just so ok we understand you've already released so much free content that if you have to release some pay content it's ok... cause we're all mature folk and I just knew it would be ok....

My Xbox died and I'm trying to reinstall all my stuff onto a new unit. The old hard drive has a large file called "Cagney update" in my Burnout Paradise game data - but it's too big to copy and I'm unable to find this download on XBL Marketplace. I've started up the game but only received a small update, not Cagney.

I was able to re-download the bikes update, however.

What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

When are we going to get a Crash mode pack, seriously. I want the simple Burnout 2 style crash mode where you just crash where you think you'll do the most damage. Besides that Criterion are awesome for all the support thus far and I don't mind paying for some DLC, you guys deserve it.
Wouldn't it be cool if a future update let Burnout Paradise detect your Rock Band DLC considering both games are from EA.

Cry moar.

I want to pay for this DLC because I want to support this company again. How much they've given us for free is amazing.

What have they put out for free? I've played the game recently but other than the bikes and then new title screen I didn't know what I was supposed to be looking for. Is there a list somewhere?

I was always expecting to pay for the island. The fact that they gave us bikes for free means I'm definitely supporting them.

As far as I know, the retry option was mentioned in a press release about Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, but was never confirmed by Criterion afterwards, much less announced as pay DLC!

I don't have an Xbox 360, so I may be wrong, but I read that each new update contained the previous ones for Xbox 360, while the PS3 ones were incremental.

Man, watching those bikes makes me want to play the game.

The bikes are wicked fast. I get scared driving through Paradise at breakneck speed. I always think I'm gonna plow into a car.

The best things about the bikes from what I played was you don't spend as much time watching the same old crashing animation over and over again when I inevitably crash in to anything that moves.

I'm gonna keep getting into them until it finally goes into slow motion when I hit them, or that I can showtime.

Protip: Always crash next to a bus depot.

I'm at a crossroads. I love racers but haven't touched them on a console in years, and at the moment tossing up between Burnout Paradise or Midnight Club: L.A.

If I do get Burnout Paradise, is it more recommended I buy it via PSN or get it via retail?

What's the problem Hans?

I suppose the post was worded wrongly, it's more of a question between which is better - BP or MC:LA. The PSN/retail debate I can figure out for myself.

Burnout Paradise for sure and I say buy it retail, that is if you like owning physical copies of games like I do. Also you can most likely find it cheaper in stores than on the PSN. I found my copy at Meijer for $20.

Speedpop, Burnout Paradise is the better game. It hooked me for 60+ hours when I first bought it, and with the new content coming, it's something that will likely hook me again.

I bought and own Midnight Club, and while it's a good game, BP gives you lots more to do and does it with amazing style.

Besides, ridiculous crashes FTW.

PSN version is fucking ace, and it's much better than having to put in/take out a disc every time.
