The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Btw, can anyone tell me the exact location of the special weapon? (
Alien Blaster?
)

Or is it randomized. I've heard it appears in the northern areas of the map.

It's a random Mini Encounter...meaning the location will vary.

Aside from Moira and the Wandering Trader, I found the schematics for the Rock-It Launcher in the armory in Rivet City.

If you happen to have a Stealth-Boy it's super easy to pickpocket the key off of Harker at the front entrance, then open up the armory. You should still be stealthed when you enter, so close the door behind you and take out the security turret. The schematics are right there.

My favorite ammo so far for it has been pre-war money. There is just something SO right about seeing people getting hit in the face with high-velocity cash! I call it 'Spreading the Wealth'.
:D

Great tip!
I was actually going to start heading down to Rivet City pretty soon, and I happen to have three Stealth Boys one me (one I have no idea when/how I got, and two I got from Moira after a side quest), so I'm definitely gonna try that out. I've been looking for a good use for those. My other plan was going to be to wait till the trader in front of Megaton that holds the Rock-It schematics came back (since traders switch off there), and then take him out and grab the schematics, but your way is more effective. ;)

Small spoiler for the Galaxy News Radio...

I cannot find the way to Three Dog's hideout, I danced around it on the map all night, but no luck on actually finding it, any help?
:lol

are you trying to talk to three dog himself? I did the same thing for like 15 minutes. It turns out he was asleep on his bed and I was standing right in front of him.

No, I can't even find him. I see the "GNR Building" on the map, but I cannot find the path that will take me there, there's debris in the city at every turn that I try to take. =\

There's definitely an entrance. Look carefully at your map. Remember you can zoom in and out of it, so you can see streets and entrances more easily.

There's a reason for the static on GNR, you will find out as you progress why... Don't worry your disc is fine!

Yeah I see that now :lol However...

I thought it was intentional (skipping music).

This part isnt. The music that comes Enclave radio during the interludes isnt supposed to sound jumpy. The audio problem goes away if you press escape while listening to the music on that station, but after the spoken part, it goes right back to being "jittery".

The non radio music (actual game soundtrack) or non pipboy radio music (radios in the environment) sound just fine with no stuttering.

In other news....

DAAAAMN.

Wasnt expecting that from a well aimed shot.

Also after doing a certain sidequest...and trying too hard in the name of "science", i've become somewhat of a mutant. Skin's got that healthy green hue. Either that or its the first time i've seen my arms, and I accidently messed with yellow tint a little too much.

Oh and VATS accuracy probably has to do with condition of weapon, different equipment, stats, and everything else that affects your character. Assault Rifle was amazing for me, kept getting crits and shearing off people's appendages.

Really loving game. I'm hating the people who are like ZOMG STALKER + FAR CRY are better. They obviously don't get it.

Two quick questions though: -

1.) Any get rich quick schemes? I"m having trouble keeping up the wealth!
2.) Where can I have a constant source of ammo (Shotgun Shells, specifically) and where can I pick up more bobby pins?

Thanks ^_^

I'm 15 hours in and I'm just getting to the museum of technology. It was kind of a bitch to find GNR and getting lost again trying to find the right subway to make it to the museum. I still had fun getting there because I found tons of new places on the map to fast travel to.

I had to save and turn off the game for a bit I've been playing for 5 hours straight and I don't want to spoil the inside of the museum just yet.
The battle with super mutants just outside the museum was epic enough as it is.

Man, that was great. Was jamming to the Marine's Hymn on the radio while clearing out the Ant cavern underneath
Springvale Elementary.

Found some very cool (rare) loot, as well!

You can. Bringing Dogmeat along definitely makes the game more challenging. Since death is permanent, you have to work hard to keep him alive, since it'll break your heart to lose him.

Not if you lose him when you say "Go to the Vault this is too dangerous for you." And 10 minutes later you get an ineffectual toast that pops up on the screen and says "Dogmeat has died." Zero impact on me when it's presented that way.

Bought this game yesterday, played about 5-6 hours today and I'm loving it. Loved Oblivion, and Bethesda has done it again. It's pretty fun to explore my (quasi) native D.C./MD Post-apocalyptic style.

I've had some problems with crashes, though. Vista's been giving me these "Fallout 3 has stopped working" messages about once an hour or so. Don't seem to know what's up... I'm using the 64bit if it helps.

Did you go through the subway tunnel and then run through the town with the guys in power armor? You can't simply walk there overland from Megaton.

I had that issue too. I haven't in a while, but I'm sure it'll happen again eventually. Luckily it's not too often, and autosave=on and manual saving after every fight helps.

Yeah, the game's massive. There's a ton of stuff to do before ever even leaving Megaton, which is your first quest destination right after leaving the vault.

If you don't, you get your very own
house complete with a robotic butler
. Extremely handy and saves me a lot in Stimpak costs.:lol

Hidden deep within Evergreen Mills is The Terrible Shotgun.

Any F3 players enjoying close-up, shotgun combat... FIND IT. USE IT. LOVE IT.

Double the damage of all the sawed-off & combat shotguns I'd found in the game thus far. Repair it up to full DMG with combat shotguns, and you'll literally rip through enemies like butter.

I found tons of Fallout 3 music in the DATA folder, but I'm not sure what some of it is.

Okay I checked, none of them are the radio station songs.

Can you ride a bike in this game? A trader is selling "bike fuel". Is there a bike? It would be the equivalent of the horse in Oblivion. Does anyone have pics of the bike if it exists?

the whole framerate stuttering/skipping issue is really starting to piss me off ....and the "clamp=60" obviously doesn't really work

Evidently it's been an issue with the engine since Oblivion....

I loved the game but I was disappointed by the length. I tried to do alot of sidequests but still went through it in 5 days. :(

Fantastic game, doesn't disappoint at all...except for one thing. I love the gameworld, but after playing STALKER I have to say Fallout 3 doesn't come close to the majesty of the Zone. It doesn;t feel coherent, like a "let's put this here and this looks like a good spot for this" kind of feel. It doesn't really hamper my love for the game, but I'm just saying. Everything else is just dandy though. I've always loved being able to pick up loads of random junk and here it actually serves a purpose. The "dungeons" are also much improved over Oblivion, here when you stumble upon a new one it doesn;t fe like "ohh yet another one of these", but then again, the setting is much more logical for this sort of setup than Oblivion was (meaning I hated how every 10 meters you took you'd find a cave or mine or whatever, it was way too cluttered.)

Anyway off to play some more. I'm about 15 hours in and haven't even done more than 2 main quests.

Wait, what? I've already ransacked Evergreen Mills and didn't see that shotgun. details plz

I haven't done much outside of going to Megaton for the main story. Man, there's a lot to do. So many distractions. I love it!

Got the shishkabob last night. So badass. Unfortunately, I stole from Billy Creel. I didn't know this would automatically make everyone in town want me dead. So I had to go on a long killing spree. Of course, by then, I'd forgotten to save in an hour. Not sure what quests I'm gonna have to redo.

On the plus side, I got an achievement. Not that I really care.

I wish saves were per character and not per Live profile, almost lost around 5 hours of work last night, fortunately I had made a copy of all my saves before I started playing.

I finished the main quest last night without realising it was that short. I can't continue on in the world after completing it, so I rolled a new character to do more side stuff this time around.

When I started out the new character I beat the crap out of Butch before the GOAT test, he fell off his seat unconscious. It felt pretty good!

Game continues to be so damn awesome. Unbelievably awesome. I haven't played an RPG like this, probably ever. I'm just letting myself get swept up in the exploration and getting sidetracked. Moira marked some place on my map with mole rats before I talked her out of writing her crazy ass book. So after mopping up all the other missions in Megaton, and before taking on Blood Ties and the main quest, I decided to wander over to the mole rat infestation. Wow. Got totally sidetracked, discovered a crazy underground network, a memorial, and more. Plus, some crazy mercenaries said there's a price on my head. :lol

I don't want this game to end. Anyway, took some screens tonight.

And here's the money shot. Some raider flanked me and came up from behind. I turned around just in time and switched to my Power Fist, went into VATS, and BOOM HEADSHOT. :lol

One of the best games of the last 5 years for me. Can't wait to see what the DLC brings. Here's hoping for a Shivering Isles-size expansion.

Fuck yes. I was just thinking of this earlier. I hope they build on this game with nice big expansions for a while.

I haven't commented much on this because I've been playing it...pretty much 100% of the time I'm sitting at my computer the last couple days. I've never been so utterly enraptured by a game like this in a long time. I was bored to tears by Oblivion and could never play more than an hour or two each time I tried it, so I was not expecting F3 to have such an effect on me. I mean shit, I've been playing for about 15 hours so far (at least), I'm level 11 and from the looks of it I've only explored/uncovered 1/3 of the map. There is still a couple markers on my map that I haven't come anywhere near yet, like Tenpenny tower. Almost the entire western half is unexplored. It really is one of the most complete, detailed and interesting game worlds I've seen. The most, even.

Also, VATS never gets boring. Ever. I fucking love this game.

Also while I'm asking questions, how do I get into the other half of Rivet city? The one with the very hard locked door.

Is it just me or do all machine guns completely suck in VATS? I do awesome in VATS with anything that's single shot (Hunting Rifle, Shotgun, Pistol) but when I use anything automatic (Assault Rifle, Submachine gun, Minigun) it sprays all over the place and rarely hits anything. I do better with automatic weapons when I just fire them in realtime.

Is this just my luck or is this a deliberate design decision?

Hell no, it's probably your stats/weapon condition. Assault rifles are fucking awesome in VATS.

I'm loving this game so far. Just walking into an abandoned house and exploring is so fun and creepy. I went up stairs and found 2 dead bodies on the bed.

A few things though:

1. Is the president the voice of Malcolm McDowell? It sure sounds like it.

2. How can I pick up mines? Every time I get near one it blows up.

3. Is the Ladykiller perk really as shit as it sounds? I mean, is it good for extra dialog options when talking to women or not?

Not very nice, Talon Company. :lol

Yes, that's right. Groups of hitmen are now ambushing me because I'm such a nice guy, and now peasants are buying me presents in Megaton.

1. Yes

2. Just look at it and press A twice

3. Its pretty useless if you have high Speech. It doesnt often give you much that you cant get by other means. Same for the child perk.

Haha, wow, seems I've stumbled onto the next part of the quest I was on by accident,
was running around and found some Mechanics went in and found Vault 112 which turns out what I'd need to find after I'd been to Rivet City

Also do you need to do a quest in it's entirety to get the achievement? As I finished a quest but missed some of it out, yet no achievement.

Yep, and Liam Neeson is your father. :)

2. How can I pick up mines? Every time I get near one it blows up.

Just pay attention to the ground where you're walking and as soon as you come in range point to it and press E(on PC) to disable it. Then you can press it again to pick them up.

3. Is the Ladykiller perk really as shit as it sounds? I mean, is it good for extra dialog options when talking to women or not?

Dunno, there are worse perks you could choose from though. I think it would be interesting just to hear the dialogue. At least there is a combat bonus, unlike, say, Child at Heart. :|

2. you just need to look at them and bee quick. I collected some in the minefield. Just watch at the mines and press action button 1 time to disarm them and a 2 time to pick them up. there good in combat :D

3. hmm i have that peark but i dont think there whas a extra dialog yet !?

I got my power fist off some random raider.

The door you're looking for is under water. Its located on the opposite side of the very hard locked door.

You have to have your luck at 6 just to get him, right? Damn, I don't want to waste two perks on the one that gives you a SPECIAL point, since mine's at 4. Anyone know of any side quests or items that give a permanent boost to your luck?

The Intense Training +1 SPECIAL perk is one of the best perks you can choose. Especially additions to luck. When picking luck you are getting +1 to every individual skill, thats +13 points overall. Which is much better than a bunch of those perks that give +5 to two skills. Plus you get the bonus of more criticals and anything else luck is factored into.

Here and Now is basically just a waste of a perk since you'll eventually gain that level. You're just missing out on one actual perk that gives you some benefits. Hell choose the strong back perk (one of the lamest perks) over Here and now!

I also have a question. Game says educated perk is good early on because you get +3 skill points per level. But whats the difference in skill points added per level from +1 INT. Isn't it better to pick Intense Training and put it on Intelligence (Up to 10) instead of educated? Because a higher INT gives you more skill points per level.

Alright, so I JUST got to the
citadel
and thanks to that little trick mentioned earlier, I have the Tesla Power Armour (which is ridiculous), a Plasma Rifle (which is even more ridiculous) just got my
Brotherhood companion, whatsherface Cross or something
and now im heading off to go get dogmeat. I have a feeling I am going to be too awesome now.
