The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

How did you guys solve your weight problem?

I went to the springfield elementary next to megatown, and by the first floor I was already overweight! By the time I cleared up all 3 floors, I had 720/210 weight. Walking so slow really got on my nerves but I didn't want to make 4 trips just so that I could finish the school.

After I finished the elementary, I went back and got the house and stored what I didn't need in the locker. Does the locker have infinite space or will it tell you it's full?

How are you guys handling your weight issues so that it doesn't resort in to something tedious?
Why in the hell are you are you picking up 720lbs worth of crap? I have a strength of 2 and never really have weight problems. I don't even have a house to store stuff in.

I only pick up things I am actually going to use, or is of very high value for selling.

It doesn't force me to explore at all, quite the opposite it encourages me to stick to the quests because they negate the frustration.

What it should do is encourage me to explore (which Fallout 3 already does in many ways) instead of tricking me into it by giving me limited information.

I don't understand why the triangles aren't enough. The small, empty ones do point you to where you haven't been. What makes them so difficult to follow, the lack of a distance meter? The quest marker is the same, the triangles are just smaller. I don't see how you can't just follow the direction it's pointing and eventually end up somewhere new. There can be a couple of the triangles clumped close together sometimes, but that just means you have two or more new places to find, so I don't see how that's a negative.

found the Melee Weapons bobble head. It's
on your way back to the dunwich building from the ruins that are in the very bottom of that building... The Virulent Underbelly i think it's called?

Speaking of which, all the audio tapes you find there seem to keep talking about
a book that is very important.... but I never found it. Did anyone else?

720 is...a lot, to say the least. I have a fairly high repair skill, so whenever I start to get a bit over the top I repair everything that I can and that usually solves the problem. If not, and I can't quickly fast travel back to town to drop/sell things, I drop whatever I don't need.

Damn this game is fun, eventhough the environments seem to offer little loot to find unless you go inside caverns/schools/whatevers.

Anyway, I have a ton of loot I want to drop off in a save location, is it possible to get a safe house in Megaton? If yes, how?

defuse the bomb and talk to Simms

1) Take the strong back perk.
2) Clear out your inventory before leaving home. (I'm usually 90/250)
3) REPAIR REPAIR REPAIR.

Exact same outfit is me :D My guy aint that hot though :/

I'm happy to see some appreciation of this games aesthetics. Many of my friends claims Oblivion had better atmosphere than Fallout, and I couldn't disagree more!

The "animation", or maybe character behavior, is still far from top notch though, which saddens me a bit. Guess it's become a part of what we know as the Bethesda touch ;)

Personally I'm on a year old gaming pc, 8800GTS, 4gb, yet the game chose "high" as my graphical settings, and it runs smoothly! I haven't peeked at the settings, probably not at "ultra", but still looks damn good!
It only takes 3 seconds to load as well, so I'm truly amazed by Bethesda's work on this one!

Btw, how do you move your camera around like that? And how to hide the HUD and take screenshots?

Yeah, Gamebryo or whatever tech it is that Bethesda uses to create character faces really has a bad habit of creating some true mongoloid abominations. Took me a while to not make my character look like an asian version of Lockjaw.

I agree, character animation can be painfully bad at times, but other times, especially when you're in walk or aim mode, it looks pretty good. I love going RE4 perspective and walking around the sewers shooting ghouls. Makes it feel kinda survival horror.

I think the true merit here is that we have very good graphics that does not require hefty hardware and the load times... jesus christ, nearly nonexistent. Makes quick saves and quick loads so joyous.

To move the camera around, hold down the F key or hold down the mouse scroll wheel, then swing your mouse around. You can then zoom into your character with the scroll wheel. To get rid of the HUD, bring up the console by hitting the ~ key, and then type TM. Then hit ~ again to resume the game. To turn menus back on, repeat.

Great, great action RPG.

Possibly the best way to manage your inventory weight if you're a horder is to pick up an NPC follower. You effectively get an entire other inventory, though I'm not positive what the weight limit is. For Jericho, it's quite a bit.

My character and him are still always running out of space anyway, though. :lol I carry lots and lots of weapons around.

I wasn't planning on it, I was actually on my way to get the sniper rifle. But it was there, so I went in. I think I picked up anything that was selectable. If I could pickup the bits of brain off the dead I would have.

Picked up every book, cup, toaster, anything that said it had a sell value. Maybe that was a really bad idea. I just thought that even thought the sell price is small, those bundles of crap could buy me a health pack or two. Plus, 1 pound or 400 pounds overweight, I would still walk just as slow.

Also, I didn't know you could port back. I walked my fat ass all the way back slo-mo, hoping nothing would jump at me. I'll be more picky next time, repair and leave those shiny little toasters alone. So tempting to pick up thought..

My toughest decision is figuring out which weapons I want to carry. My best weapon is my chinese assault rifle but I don't use it..only as a last resort. I have 1000 bullets so if I'm ever stuck it's my go to weapon. I'm running out of energy for my laser weapons though. What item do you but to get more? Is it energy cells?

You can't port back if you are overcumbered. So if you do have that much stuff just drop it off were you would wind up when you port to that location and then rinse and repeat the process until you get rid of all your stuff.

oh god oh god oh god, i'm getting GoW2 today.

games overload. what am i going to do with FO3.

anyone have some definite locations of a Leafblower and a Crutch? I seem to have gone the entire game without finding either of these.

Trade it in for the hottest new games! I just got my 1000 FO3 achievement points!!!

1) I got the
Nuka Cola Machine for my house in Megaton
. Am I supposed to restock it or something? It doesn't seem worth the money.

2) What do the
themes for the house do? I wanted to pick the science one assuming it would give me some science points, but I haven't gotten enough caps yet.

Edit: these are megaton spoilers. Nothing too big.

Yeah it's energy cells for laser weapons (robots always carry some), but grab the Scrounger perk at level 9 or 10 (I forget). It's quite possibly the best non-lvl 20 perk in the game. You will never, ever have to worry about ammo again. Or caps for that matter, since you can sell ammo.

I'm just playing. I "might" trade it in or sell mine temporarily due to tight budget lately. As much as I hated the first Gears of War my entire friends list will be playing it.

Ugh Dogmeat keeps dying. I might just leave him at vault 101.

A little more picky would be good next time, but as you get used to the game, you'll know what to keep and not. Hopefully, you did not sell the items called "Pre-War Books" Those can net you some good cash later.

I've seen them all over, but I remember finding both at the RobCo facility.

Crutch - Few inside the RobCo Facility
Leafblower - Outside RobCo. Moria will also sell it to you.

I never pick up anything that is worth less than 5 Caps per 1 WG, Tin Cans, Cups, etc... that includes things that are like 5 WG and 15 Caps (since that only equals out to 3 Caps / 1 WG). That being said, if I'm not too close to my weight limit I will pick up supplies that I know are useful is some schematics (lawn mower blades, crutches, etc...) and try to get them back to my house. The file cabinet in my bedroom has dozens of different materials in in I've collected.

Like others have said as well, I have a high repair skill and repair armor and weapons like crazy to make space... as well as money off the repaired items. It's not uncommon for me to come back to town with practically fully repaired raider gear, hunting rifles, and assault rifles and make a few hundred caps.

fuck after seeing the pictures i should have made a female chrackter too...damn. But ok now iam using my male charackter with a suit and a hockey mask :lol

I have a major problem playing this game. after 5-10 minutes of playing,
the game will slow down to the framerate of about 2 frames per second.
after a few minutes, it goes back to 30.
but this repeats itself, and it's fucking annoying, making the game unplayable.
At first I thought this is a memory issue, since opening the task manager while the game was in this state showed the memory was stuck at 80%.
so I bought 2 extra gigs, turning out to be a stupid move. this just made it get stuck at 45%, never more than that.
This did not help, at all, obviously, but atleast I have 3 gigs now. ugh.
This happens in every game now. I dunno what the fuck should I do.
Halp plz?

I tried looking for virus, spyware, trojans etc but that didn't help this problem. hell, I even tried formatting. nope.

I'm assuming with your new OS load you used updated graphic drivers?

I just went through the random building LOB Enterprises (near Falls Church) and found a bunch of leaf blowers. I also think there are some in the Minefield town.

You build things using a workbench, but it requires schematics and the proper components. There are plenty of workbenches in various buildings, but it's best to buy your own for your house.

How can I get that Powerglove and how can I build things? I'm currently in that underground station.

I'm assuming you find it randomly-- I found mine on a random raider in the Northernwest of Paradise Falls. To build things you a) need the items it requires, b) need to find a workbench - you'll know it when you see it.

1. Put warm nuke colas in there and they eventually come out cold with more healing power (and I think more value?)

2. I think they just make your house look cooler and stock it with a bunch of random items for decoration.

The house themes don't come with any statistical benefit. They're just for show. But if you're in the mid-to-late game, you might as well buy one anyway.

Fallout 3 has this weird turning point, where you'll go from constantly scavenging around for caps and ammo and stimpacks, always right on the edge of being completely broke, to suddenly having more caps than you know what to do with.

I'm only ~50% through the game, but I literally have nothing to buy with all my caps, anymore:

- Bought all the household items
- I don't pay to repair my armor or weapons, since I do it myself
- I have ~40 stimpacks, mostly via trading and scavaging.

All this seemingly happened overnight. I went from having nothing, to having everything. S

Yeah...I'm at level 15 and I just crossed that barrier, and that's even without selling the piles and piles of extra ammo I have from weapons that I don't use. I guess I just don't need to waste as much time obsessively searching every desk and filing cabinet from now on. It's a shame that there's not much to do with your money in the end game.

I wish there was some ultimate armor or ultimate versions of your weapons to buy...

This may seem true, but there are many many items to still find and scavenge. There are atleast 25 CUSTOM weapons, caps do become useless at somepoint though, discouraging...

Holy shit that (mainquest)
follow the giant robot mission
is poorly designed, he gets stuck on everything (right now he's endlessly walking into a wall), won't follow you at all if you walk beyond 10 meters of him, you'll get bombarded by artillery if you stay near him (resulting in many broken limbs and wounded henchmen), everything goes to hell if you stray of the beaten path (got a black screen just now when I went to check out an alleyway) and there's really no reason for you to be there at all since he just destroys everything in his path and is invincible anyway.
