The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Are many people running into glitches in the game?

I started playing and as soon as I got to the white 9 years later flash forward screen, the game just froze. I restarted quite a few times and still the same thing. So, I go back and exchange it because I thought it just might be a defective disc.

Now, I get the new game home, start it up... and of course it happened again at the very same spot.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there something wrong with my system? Anyone, help! I just want to play this game! I really hope it is not the machine. I don't think I could stand another repair wait!

So, now I guess I'm off to purchase Fable 2.

Freezes in the same spot with a different disc is bad news. I'm no expert but last time that happened to be, RRoD was imminent.

So at what level can you increase your SPECIAL attibutes again (if ever)?

In past fallouts you could only in rare situations. In this one there's a perk that permanently increase an attribute that has 10 ranks. You can also find bobbleheads that will increase a specific stat.

there are other ways as well, usually found by completing a quest.

I really need to get a better computer... judging by that and many of the other screenshots in this thread.

Haha I know right, Some of these screenshots are just beyond amazing. I honestly can't imagine running a game and have it look as good as some of them. Sucks to be me, I know.

Anyone else milking megaton for all it's worth before blowing it up? I feel obligated to kill the owner of craterside supply (mainly due to the voice acting) after I get all the xp and extra items from her.

Thats what I plan on doing. Doing as many quests as I can, then kill everyone, loot, steal, then blow that fucker up. lol.

I already killed the sheriff because I broke into a house, and him and a few other guys came at me. So I did what any decent man would do, drop them, in the women's bathroom.

Ditto. I'm sure there are many other places to do business, and I want whatever reward is waiting for me. Everyone there annoys the piss out of me anymore, ARGH! It's just so fun to loot!!

I haven't said anything that isn't in the manual or in the intro though.
The facts: it's 2277, the vault never opens, the war was in 2077. So I must be missing something.

I am not very far but I from talking to Moriarty I gathered that
you weren't born in the vault. Also the door has been opened before in the overseers computer there are descriptions of encounters scientist have with the ants

If you give Jerico 1000 caps he does follow you around as a "Follower" I opened a box when someone was looking and he went to town on the whole town :lol

I have a video, I thought it was pretty funny. I'll do this in game after I finish chapter 2 because I'm gonna blow it up anyway.

Man I need storage space bad.

I killed the sheriff too, but not like that.
I was approached by Mr. Burke in Moriarty's bar. After he told me his plan, I told him to fuck off. I then ratted him out to the sheriff, and Mr. Burke killed him when he tried to arrest him. I looted his body, went into his house and raided it before his son showed back up. the first time I did this the son showed up early and I had to end up killing a lot of guys in town I didn't want to, so I reloaded and tried again. I'm playing a good aligned theif type character (will steal, but won't kill unprovoked)

Omg at the
computer simulation!

Fuck, I accidentally read that. I have no idea what that means, but now I'm jumping to conclusions. I've barely been able to play the game...
Have you completed the game, Kev?

Stupid me. Stupid, stupid me.

Anyone else having trouble with the Live for Windows thing?

It allows me to sign in just fine if I disable my firewall (Sygate, set to Allow All,) but the second I put on any kind of actual protection, I can't sign in. I even tried creating a rule allowing all traffic from any possible IPs. Doesn't help.

Oh, and I also reset my application block rules so I could be certain that I gave permission to whichever processes Fallout needs to get onto XBL.

live also creates a new folder for same games when u are logged on.

Which scared the crap outta me at first when i thought I'd lost about 5 hours.

I can't get over how good this game is. I'm owning Super Mutants easily at lv7 now. Combat has gotten better, locations have been extremely interesting, and my character has started to look decent. I'm amazed at how much they improved over Oblivion(save your "well, oblivion sucked comments", I liked it!)

It's a cool moment but just knowing the phrase won't spoil anything for you, trust me. I have not finished it.

To all those wondering - your shit WILL GET STOLEN (IE WILL DISAPPEAR) IF YOU LEAVE IT IN SOME RANDOM BOX. So don't do it. You get a house of your own by completing a quest fairly early on, and can store all your items in there, without worry.

On which quest do you get your own house? I have been pretty evil and killing just about everyone and I still don't have a house :( I've been storing all of it in the
dead sheriff's house
and also in some of the lockers at
the radio station
. I don't want to lose it all :(

i was so pump for this game and then when i played it. huh, its like oblivion. it feels like oblivion. I did put 150 hrs in oblivion, but i was expecting more from fallout.
I do like the VATS

There it stood. A pinnacle of immoral filth and ungodly corruption. Tenpenny Tower.

Inside, the righteous Wasteland hero raised his laser gun and grimaced at the wicked couple as they slept.

fallout3200810302157332yx8.jpg

The whore was restless, tossing and turning as she dreamt her sluttish dreams. Her husband lay motionless. He had no imagination. He had no conscience. All he cared for was money, sex and obscene power.

story1or8.jpg

The righteous Wasteland hero flinched not as he opened fired at the man.

fallout3200810302158497ga7.jpg

The man cried out in hellish pain as the lasers struck him, turning his body into a malodorous powder.

fallout3200810302100313mg8.jpg

The whore lept out of bed, shrieking like a cat in heat. Her breasts glistened with the saliva of a thousand men.

fallout3200810302113489de6.jpg

"Help me," she screamed as fled the room. "There's a righteous man of God after me!"

fallout3200810302100499iy5.jpg

As the hero stepped into the hallway, he was greeted by a machine gun-wielding henchman. "Stop right there, lover of Christ," he thundered as he sprayed the hallway with bullets. Cowering below him was another whore. She grinned as the bullets hit the righteous hero. "Kill him! Kill he who is blameless!"

fallout3200810302110546ik1.jpg

The mighty man of God raised his rocket launcher and took aim. "I won't give you a fucking chance to repent."

fallout3200810302110574iq2.jpg

The rocket roared from the barrel. Its velocity was tremendous.

fallout3200810302110575zp5.jpg

A bright fireball exploded, engulfing the whore and the henchman. "Nooooo", they both cried. "Let us live so that we can worship false idols!!!!" Soon, their wretched voices were overcome by the roar and crackle of God's flames.

fallout3200810302110584fz7.jpg

To the hero's left, a snivelling little man approached. "Oh just and righteous Christian, please spare my life. I'll give you anything! Money! That's it! Money. Surely you have some debt to pay?"

fallout3200810302112261fw3.jpg

The hero snarled at the man. "My debt has already been paid...WITH MY SAVIOR'S BLOOD!!!"

fallout3200810302112482bl6.jpg

fallout3200810302112493gm5.jpg

"Where are you, Susan of Babylon?" The righteous man's voice struck fear in her heart as she hid futiley in the bathroom. "You can't run from Jesus, Susan. Can't you hear him calling for you? Suuuuuuuusssssaannnnn...Suuuuuuussssaaaannnn...."

fallout3200810302109066ur3.jpg

"LEAVE ME ALONE AND LET ME SIN!," she yelled. When she looked up, he was standing there with a look of disappointment on his face, and a hunting rifle in his hand. "Do you believe in God, Susan?" She wiped away her tears and began to laugh. "I BELIEVE IN RECKLESS UNPROTECTED SEX!"

He cocked his rifle and took aim. "Do you know what the unforgiveable sin is, Susan?" She shook her head. "Well, you just FUCKING MADE IT!"

fallout3200810302109133vo7.jpg

The finality and sincerity of the gunshot was undeniable. The whore named Susan slumped to the ground, her legs spread. She was in death as she was in life.

THE END

So, is the PS3 version really bad or what? Curious because that's the only version I can get right now. Should I wait a few months until I get my 360?

I've played about 5 hours. I won't go over what's been said a million times already, but I would like to say that I appreciate the improvements Bethesda have made to the engine on the 360.

The load times are seem much improved, the saving is fast and doesn't cause any slowdown, the presentation is awesome (HUD and the Pipboy) and there is virtually no slowdown in the general environments (which all look better than what I was expecting). Other general improvements to the game that aren't engine related include the MUCH better voiceacting, the level-scaling, the quests (this might be because I find the world far more interesting) and the superior levelling up system.

Bethesda, I'm only 5 hours into your new game, but if F3 keeps up this level of quality throughout then you have been redeemed.

This game is Oblivion fixed.

I'm in the same boat. I want to buy it, but if it's really inferior compared to other versions, I might just skip it.

The movie :lol :lol :lol

Even if I have a laptop that can run Bioshock on med, should I just go for it on PC for mods, or go 360 for better visuals?

How long is the main quest?
I did it in about 20 hours but I rushed it. Probably 15 if you ONLY did the main quest. It finishes kinda abruptly and I was disappointed when it ended, I wanted MORE.

I'm really torn as to which version I should get. Should I get the 360 version or the PC version if my specs are:

4 GB RAM
2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
ATI Radeon 2600 HD w/ 256

I totally meet the required specs AND the recommended, except for the video card, which doesn't cut the recommended list, but it is supported.

What does GAF think?

Anyone else found the garden ghome? Looked very very very much like the one you can find in Halflife 2 - Episode 2.

I picked it up hoping for a cheap achievement but no. :D

Here is my little video. Apparantly you can kill the "Child of Atom" has the kid Voice Actor, but you can gun him down. (He is not in this one however).

this game is so good. it's deus ex, system shock 2 levels of good. it may even be the best fpsrpg ever made.

i was very sceptical about how dialog would be in fallout 3 but holy shit they nailed it. i talked to that dude from tenpenny tower in megaton and convinced him to
tell his boss to cancel his plans of blowing up the bomb, because I have the black widow perk
. lots of dialog options that aren't always obviously good, neutral or evil (take note, bioware), lots of other extra stat-based dialog options pop up everywhere, and there's so many opportunities to be awesomely assholish.

they nailed the difficulty, the scavenging, the atmosphere, the long quests... pretty much everything.

whats also cool is the enemy babble during combat; the random arghs and goddammits... always liked that about fallout.

it takes the best from the traditional (fallout) style of rpg, the best from bethesda's open world rpgs and the best from fpsrpg. it's the last fifteen years of western rpgs condensed into one extremely awesome game. fallout fundamentalists owned, appreciators of excellence satisfied.

Has anyone ran into a problem concerning the first time you reach the
GNR building
?

The
Super Mutant Behemoth breaks through
and
I kill it with the Fat Man
. I then proceed to enter the
GNR building
and I can't because it's locked. All of the
Lyons' squad
heads inside and leaves me with no way to get in.

I've tried saving and reloading to no avail. The door remains locked no matter what I do.

ALL I WANT IS TO FIND

LET ME IN
GNR BUILDING

So VATS or normal? What gives more XP (for fighting obviously)
VATS gets me quicker kills. I just use it all the time, now. The AP limit kind of irks me, though. I mean, if I can shoot something in regular FPS mode and not use AP, why the Hell do I have to use AP in VATS?
