Concerning Big Town -
Where the hell are the robots? I've got a bunch of kids standing near the junk piles asking me to show them how to fix the robots but I can't find the damn things to fix

So I'm doing the Head of State sidequest and I'm at the end where I'm supposed to meet the dude at Lincoln Memorial only he isnt there and the pointer is telling me to go to the mall northwest metro entrance....

I think my shit messed up, or does anyone know what I do?
Go to their base and wait until they've left, then go to the metro and wait until they've arrived (~7h or so for me I think). I was very confused by that mission as well. :P

Bah, so far I can't recommend The Lawbringer perk (and probably the evil one too), only 10 caps per finger. Actually for the mission in
Paradise Falls I wiped out the entire fucking slaver camp
and just got 13 fingers, so 130 caps. Doesn't seem worth it. Unless you maybe get greater rewards as you turn more in, anyone know?

I did get that guy's pimp jacket though.

Ok so theres a side quest mission for evil players called Strictly Business. It held at Paradise Falls the Slavers HQ.

Now there are no good player side quests dealing with Paradise Falls. My question is did any of you good Karma players raid the town and kill all the slavers there in for great justice eventhough there is no quest there for you?

I think it's more for people going for the neutral karma thing.

Stupid ending.
The enclave scientist in the chamber had more than enough rad-x and rad-aways to survive for a good few minutes. Enough time for the purification chamber to drain and for you to step out again.

And Fawkes! What a jerk! "Sorry dude, this is your destiny."

Blargh. Bring on the expansion! Better fix that shit yo!

So how many books are there that give you skill points? I assume there are enough that the Comprehension perk is worth it even if I've already read 5-6 or so skill books.

Is Intense Training worth it? I hate my SPECIAL settings, I wish I could re-allocate them.
I want my Agility to be way higher for VATS purposes. And it would probably make sense to get Luck up to 7 to have a +4 to all skills...

What perks do people recommend?

I've been considering just this action. I've just cleaned up all my open quests only chasing dad at this point.

I did it (Dirty Harry-style with the "I'm gonna fuck all you's up" speech option), I thought I'd be able to free the slaves once I cleared it (like in previous Fallouts...) but I didn't find a way to remove their collars so I couldn't do it. I assume that there’s something you'd have to do with the computer but that said something like “option unavailable” when I tried it, presumably it’s unlocked by some quest... is the an evil quest that gives you access to the computer? What is it there for?

You access the computer in the main quest.

There are 25 of each book for every skill all over the wastes.

Your Repair or Science I think...or maybe its Intelligence, either/or has to be pretty high to remove those collars.

Blaster and ammo.

Is there any way to get more ammo or to find a compatible gun so as to repair it?
Nope. Use at your own risk. Just like the T-51b prototype armor. you cannot repair those fully.

Must be explosives, that's the only plausible one that I don't have maxed out (rep, science, lockpick and int are all at 100/10).

I also found the quest outside now that I went back, there's a kid in the first area hiding behind some cars. That mission only involved saving the children though, told all the other slaves to run for it and nothing negative happened, they ran off and disappeared as they exited the area, no explosion or anything when I went through. Nothing happened to my karma either.

So how do you get back into Vault 101 to do that mission?

Also I think Grim Reapers Sprint is the best, its obviously overpowered though.

Well nothing negative should happen to your Karma after laying waste to that place. I remember running into a slaver caravan in the wastes and killing the slaver dude to set the peeps free. But I think you are right. My explosives wasnt high enough or something and I blew the poor girl up.

Jesus christ, the game keeps crashing all the fucking time now. No other game has been this troublesome on this PC (Core 2 Quad Q9450, GeForce 9800GTX with the latest non-beta drivers, X-Fi Fatal1ty with the latest web-driver on Vista x64 Business).

Does anyone have any idea what might cause these constant crashes? Sometimes I can play for a good while before it crashes, and other times I can just load up a save and it will crash a minute later. The game just freezes, and I need to shut it down with Ctrl-Alt-Del. Any ideas?

FFDshow codec has been found to cause crashes. Either uninstall and use K-Lite or add FO3 TO FFDshows exeptions.

So I just got to the museum area, liking it so far. A couple of questions:

1. I've heard that this game is 20 hours long give or take. I'm at the museum at something like 8 hours in, it feels more like a 35-40 hour game to me. Am I progressing very slowly or is the 20 hour thing inaccurate?

2. When do I get to increase my SPECIAL stuff? It doesn't show up as I level up.

Does anyone know what happens with the perk
cannibal when you're scarfing down grandma suzy in plain sight of another NPC? It says it'll be considered a crime against nature. I haven't tried it yet (and I'm at work now), but I assume they'll just turn hostile or is there more to it than that?

I don't know how long I spent with the game*, but it was way more than 20h, it really depends on how you play. If you go straight for the mainquest and nothing else I doubt the game would be even 10h long (you're about 1/3-1/4th through I'd say).

SPECIAL is set in stone unless you go for the Intense Training perk (+1 to any stat, can take it 10 times), there are bobbleheads and stuff spread throughout the game that'll increase them though, as well as certain gear.

*My save says 39h, max level and all that, I explored most of the map but I'm sure I missed a hell of a lot of stuff. And then there's the whole good/evil aspect of it, you'll probably want to go through it again after you're done.

SPECIAL is the foundation of your character, not something you add to as you level up. There is, however, a Perk you can select when you level up that will let you add a few points over a few ranks.

Is there a BIG diff between high and ultra settings?

i run the game at 60fps indoor and 30/40 outdoor with ultra (4850, 4gb , C2D @ 3.2ghz), and 60 everywhere with high setting but i find a big difference in IQ

No, the main quest is 20 hours. To do the majority of quests and things is 60+ easy. SPECIAL only increases via special training perk or bobble head dolls.

Yeah, happened to me too. Seems to be a bug.

I gave up on that and went away and did some other quest and then I came back to find
them all dead... I guess the mutants came while I was away...

Thats not entirely true. Your SPECIAL attirbutes can increase as rewards for doing specific quests as well.

Wow. They've really cut down A LOT since the Oblivion/Morrowind days. I appreciate the detail(the museum was awesome) but the whole Megaton city and quest lines could probably fit into about 1/5 of a Oblivion city and maybe into one building in Morrowind. :lol

It's more dense, but it's a lot smaller. I can also see why traveling from spot to spot is a much bigger challenge than in the previous Bethesda games too, overall the pace had to be picked up a lot.

I gotta say though, the world and the main quest line especially are much more interesting than Oblivion.

Yeah in all my douzens of hours spent with Oblivion I never felt like picking up the main quest, not even once. The bits of Fallout's main quest I've seen so far seem more compelling.

I don't like that you seem to have to progress pretty far in the main quest before being trained in power armor. My two characters both have the armor, and it's been dead weight for hours.

They deserve it for yelling at me for half an hour while I was trying to find the robots....

Well considering that it is some of the best armor in the game, i dont find that too surprising. Just find a place to store it somewhere until you are ready to use it.

I have, but it's annoying that it's about the only thing linked to a specific set of actions. They should have made it a high level perk instead, since you can get the armor without even touching the main quest.

Didn't seem so far in to me, but then again I managed to skip part of the main quest on accident.

wow i just played a bit more in the main quest and vaul 102 whas freaky.

seriously the black and white town with the funny music and the creepy guy/girl WOW. What a level....it actually made me feel bad when he forced me to slaughter all the peoble ...jesus. What a level ... this will raise my score for the game alone :D

I decided to restart my character build last night because after reading a tad more into SPECIAL i realized i had points in useless places for the fist/thief/ninja i was to build :p

S4
P7
E10
C4
I4
A7
L5

Charisma was @ 3 originally but i put a perk into it at lvl3, make take it to lvl 7, then max perception and agility.

I dont care if the build will be hard for a first playthrought, i've got big guns to fall back on just in case, but i will try to use my fists most of the time, shooting their guns before of course :)

For those of us playing good/very good chars and unable to get Jericho as a follower, we have a counterpoint in the Brotherhood Citadel. I haven't seen her discussed nearly as often as various other combat followers in this topic- even though she's super easy to pick up.

But anyway, with positive Karma Star Paladin Cross will join you - all you have to do is talk to her. No price. She's inside the Citadel Ring A at the head of the briefing table.

Think I cheated myself out of a good experience in vault 102

I failed the speech roll to convince the kid his parents were getting a divorce, so I had to punch him in the face, then I succeeded the speech roll to break up the couple, which seemed pretty anti-climatic. Then I activated the security robot before the lady you have to kill came home, so the bot terrorized the old lady instead, who went into a constant 'fleeing' state in the corner of the kitchen, so when the lady did come home she immediately saw the other character fleeing and legged it out of the house. Took 10 minutes for that whole situation to die down, then the old lady told me about the emergency terminal so I just went and found that.

kinda annoyed me that Braun said I was too blind to realise the dog was my dad, because it was blatantly obvious the second he said he could no longer bother him.
