The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Damn, I've put like 18 hours in this game sense PLO! Every time they release DLC, it just gets me right back in! I just got the Power Armor! I thought I wouldn't be able to, because I completed the quest without doing it, from Operation Anchorage! I have three power armors now, just need Hellfire! I Love this game, when it's not fucking glitching!

Ok I'm in Megaton with four Active quests...

Wastleland Survival Guide - Goto Super-Duper Mart
Blood Ties - Deliver message
The Power of Atom - Disarm bomb

fourth is Dad but I'm waiting a bit... w/o spoiling it which should I probably do first? I'm thinking the supermart one because it's close, Blood Ties is much farther away.

I'd do Blood Ties first or The Power of Atom depending on how you plan on going about it.

Edit:

Forget it, I take it back just go ahead and do the Super Duper Mart part of the Wastleland Survival Guide. It's the most straight forward.

Super Duper Mart is a great quest to get you used to a lot of the basics of the game, including combat. I usually start my characters out with that quest.

Left Moriarty's.
I'm rolling after winning 3 Speech challenges. I see an abandoned town and shot some robot. I meet this woman named Silver who apparently thinks I'm after her. I'm positive I don't have a quest by that name but I know Moriarty's a jerk so I say I'll tell him she's gone. Win another speech challenge and bank 400 caps. I steal some stuff from her and rationalize it away to her being a junkie (hey I'm a martyr, my Karma can take a hit).

10:47 - Kept going and discovered School. Of course I have to fucking investigate it and break my string of good fortune. I start seeing red on my compass and before I can split a see my very first Raider. I VATS the chick and blow her away w/o nary a scratch. I decide it would be rude to leave w/o cleansing the nest, so I keep going. After killing a few more and seeing 3 ouside I decide discretion is the better part of valor and head back to the Mart quest.

I encounter some large yellow RE3 Nemesis looking thing called "Uncle Leo". Summoning every ounce of control I sheathe my gun and talk to him. In the place I gun down Raiders but it took me forever to figure out the terminal passwords...

got back and decide to go a thieving. Broke into Lucas Simms and picked up a Strength bobblehead. Broke into Jericho's and stole his pistol. Planning to break into Moriarty's and access his terminal to see if he got into on dear old Dad tomorrow.

I'm approaching 40 hours on my first playthrough and the 20 hours on my second with a much more inteligent characater. I'm amazed by the way quest can change simply by your ability. I used to run'n'gun everything on my way but with my second caracter, I can sneak, persuade, hack, lockpit or so, to avoid battle or get free intel from people. So much fun !

Also, I miss the ' hack 50 terminals ' trophy, and it's a pain in the ass. Anyone got tips for getting this pretty fast/faster than randomly finding terminals ?

I was playing the game for the first time yesterday. I got lost after leaving 101. I killed some dogs, ran away from a huge fire ant, talked to some hunters and then eventually tripped some proximity mines near the memorial.

I stopped playing after that. I'm going to give it another shot tonight. Anyone have any tips?

You have to find a huge city called Megaton just after you leave Vault 101. It's just East- south east from the vault's entrance.

It should also be the quest marker when you leave the vault if memory serves. No need to go there if you don't want to though, discovery is half the fun of this game for me.

I hate having tons of quests because I get sidetracked. I picked up like 3 quests trying to do the Wastleland Survival guide: Landmines.

Picked up Big Trouble in Bigtown and The Replicated Man, and updated Blood Ties.

I like that, just wandering around finding cool thing on my own

Steam has this for half-price this weekend? Is it worth picking up from there? Will the Steam version support DLC and mods?
yes, yes, and yes

Just beat the PS3 version... got Platinum, and can't wait to pick it up again once the DLC starts coming out... well, once Broken Steel comes out, so I can start leveling again.

Point Lookout is by far the best DLC ever. Great stuff. I'm almost through it, have about 150 hours on my account, the game is NO friggin' challange at all any more but still I can't stop playing this game.... The quests are so awesome, they just keep me going on and on.

REALLY hope Beth will somehow continue doing DLC after Mothership Zeta. I just can't get enough of this game.

I'm tempted to double dip on the PC version due to the Steam sale. Is the PC version significantly better looking than the 360 version. What about stuttering? I recall that alot of people suffered from the dreaded stuttering on the PC version.

Thanks for any insights.

I don't think there were stuttering from when I played. If there was, it was probably patched. As for looks, yes it looks better.

The pc version is tons better than the console because of mods. Get it.

What made me come back to fallout lately have been the mods. I've tried so many different ones. At first I tried huge overhauls like FOOK and FWE. They had a lot of stuff I liked, but didn't like. So, I decided to make my own mod package. Right now, I am loving Fallout more then ever. Here is what I'm using (no links, but a quick search could bring them up at fallout3nexus.com)-

Existence 2.0-
Music mod that brings in a robot DJ who speaks about his existence, lucid dreaming and even gives a quest while you listen to his sad, errie and moving industrial/electronic music. It is not a lie when I say I could not play Fallout without this mod after experiencing it.

Enhanced weather rain and snow-
This brings a complete overhaul in the weather. This along with existence completely changes the atmosphere of the game. It makes it far more darker, bleaker....just plain creepy. Its awesome

Extra Talon, raider, and merc outfits-
Brings in diversity to the people you encounter.

Marts Mutant Mod-
A standard mod, brings in new npcs and ups the amounts of random encounters you have.

Badass supermutants with hp boost-
Makes super mutants weild only heavy weaponry and gives them a lot of hp so they seem like a real threat.

Various weapons-
I dled some carbines, a few different machine guns, and some new handguns. Its really up to your discretion there are so many weapons out there. I tried the 20th century sovuiet pack, which was great until I got to the auto shotguns because they were game breakingly powerful (I had to uninstall). But, lots of awesome weapons out there for dl. Depends on what you want.

Various Perk Packs
I use Ultimate Perk Packs, robco (make your own robots!!!), and Dree perk packs. These bring in a lot of great (and some not so great) packs. Because of these perks and their requirements I find myself putting points into skills I never bothered to raise before. It adds a lot to character development.

DX armors
These replace all the textures for power armor, enclave armor, and outcast. Makes it look far, far better.

Better power armor, better regulator dusters-
Ups the stats on these armors and makes them feel like walking tanks. not game breaking, but good.

Rockwell minigun
New texture for minigun, a lot better).

Classic Fallout weapons pack
Nuff said.

All this stuff makes fallout a far more enjoyable experience imo.

I'd like help with this too.
Obviously upgrade your hacking skills and if you are one guess shy, then quit out and go back in. Look for letter combinations based on 2 guesses to see any patterns. Hacking didn't get very difficult for me until later in the game partly because I grew up playing adventure games and my mind is sorta used to this thing.

Also if you want to cheat, here's a link w/ all the locations (you can go to the places with the most):
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Terminal

Basically if you want to do it quickly, it's a fools errand because you can just get it by organically going through the game if you check the computers in each area.

Point Lookout is very well-done with some really cool stuff that happens at the end. The only thing I don't like is that there doesn't seem to be any good weapons or armor to bring back to the main game unless there's something that I'll get at the very end (I'm in the middle of the last quest right now).

You find a weapon at the end out of the blue. As far as I know it's unique weapon.

I've found a few unique weapons and some random unique items, but none of them are any better than anything I already have. Is the last weapon actually useful?

It's a somewhat powerful energy weapon but I don't think it really changes much and I'm not sure if you'll ever find another one to repair it. I don't think it will replace whatever you use as your main weapon and it isn't powerful enough to replace any power weapons, so I guess it's pretty useless.

It's about a million times better looking thanks to mods, some mods even bring texture quality up to Crysis in 64bit.

Talking about mods, has anyone had issues with them on 1.6?

More RAM solves the stuttering issue. I went from 2GB-> 4GB and now the game runs smooth.

The Backwater Rifle. It's arguably better than Lincoln's Repeater. It does 5 less damage points, but uses 10mm ammo and does a whopping 5x critical vs. the Lincoln's 2x.

It's my new go to rifle.

I didn't find that. Where should I be looking?

I don't think I ever failed a terminal. One nifty thing is when your science hit 100, they all become easier. It's either that or the point lookout ones are just really easy.

It's in the
underground spy bunker

It can only be repaired with lever action rifles, but they're everywhere in Point Lookout.

Also, when you're in Point Lookout, pick up a few pairs of those +10 repair pants, and give a pair to Wolfgang. It's a nice boost. Maybe I'll give a pair to Moira too... just because.

Hey guys I am getting back into Fallout 3, and I was wondering do people still fall to their death in Megaton?I know they patch it just making sure.

this!! I just don't understand why they don't have at least one trader with 100 repair skill if they are going to let us use items that are only reparable by npc's :(

edit: I hope on Mothership Zeta there is a friendly alien npc that can fix your stuff to 100..

You can make traders wear clothes? I'd like to see some confirmation.

it works i have done it several times http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Reverse-Pickpocketing you need to make sure the item your placing is in better condition/dr than the item they are wearing

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Crazy_Wolfgang

With the Point Lookout expansion, Wolfgang's repair skill can be further increased by Reverse-Pickpocketing a Workman's Coveralls with better than 75% condition, boosting his base 75 repair skill (+10) to 85 (allowing him to repair items to 91% CND).

I thought it was fixed, but I never had that issue though

Just to vent:

I thought I fucking stopped the Super Mutants from getting into Big Town. I mean, I shot the only Super Mutants that invaded for five minutes. So I leave Big Town and go do things for a while. Then I'm all "maybe I should go check in with Red on the whole android thing" and I get back and all that is there is a fucking Raider. WHAT THE FUCK? Then I read online that I missed out on a Lucky 8 Ball? WTF is this shit?

Is there any way to get those people back in there? Did the Super Mutants take them to Germantown again or something? Or are they fucked?

Huh that is weird. I did that quest early on. My game is at about 120 hours right now and I just passed by there, and they were all fine.

What I'm afraid of is that the game didn't recognize me killing the Super Mutants I killed as "killing all of the Super Mutants" and so now the town is "wiped out", which would suck fucking ass because I want that Lucky 8 Ball and I didn't make too many new saves, so if I want to fix what I've done, I would need to go back and replay my entire game from leaving Vault 101. Which I REALLY don't want to do. I'm only about ten to fifteen hours in, but I don't want to replay those lol.
