I'd prefer if only links of such pics were posted, I didn't need to see that honestly.

Man up. No precious bodily fluids, tendon, sinew, bone fragments or fresh meat visible.

On the plus side there is now a seat at Renault, Kobayashi anyone?

The latest post from the FIA, Formula 1 doesn't sound good.

Robert is being treated in hospital for what we think are serious internal injuries A press release will be available on 40 minutes time

Man this isn't good.. I was hoping he'd fight for the championship this year.. Now I'm hoping he'll still be able to drive this year :S

Doesn't have anything to do with manning up.
I just don't have such a morbid curiosity as you do.

Link or didn't happen.
I don't give a shit if you or others don't believe it honestly, at this point I'm just posting for people who do really care, and I'm watching a live report from the hospital so there's no link.

2h delay for the press conference, not good.

That's exactly what I thought. It appears multiple Italian news sources are reporting that they are operating on his right hand and trying to stop an internal bleeding. I hope it's just a scare like when he crashed in Montreal.

It's not about that I believe you or not. There's just so much bullshit that certain media are saying...

Hospital is a believable source for sure.

I'm keeping the fingers crossed for Robert!

Oh shit! I hope he's okay. He's a great driver even though he's usually stuck in an underperforming car. It's always a pleasure to see him race. Get well Kubica!

I know dude, let's see if the man has a chance to fight for it.
Anyway if there's no delay again then there should be an official medical report at 4pm (3pm GMT), unfortunately I won't be around then since Serie A matches are about to start in half an hour, but obviously there'll be plenty of newsfeeders in english by then.

Renault statement:

“After undergoing extensive medical checks this morning, Robert Kubica has been diagnosed with multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand. He is currently undergoing surgery at the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure.

“Robert suffered a high-speed accident this morning while competing in the Ronde di Andora Rally.

“Daniel Morelli, Robert’s manager, will be available for the press in front of the hospital emergency entrance at 16h30 CET.

“Lotus Renault GP driver, Robert Kubica, suffered an accident at high speed this morning while competing in the Ronde di Andora Rally.

“The driver was airlifted to Pietra Ligure Hospital, where he is currently undergoing medical checks. His co-driver is fine.”

season is over before it began.

hope he's fit and well to start the 2012 season.

According to this german article a part of the beam barrier the car crashed into cut through the car and injured Kubica - that's the reason why he is heavily injured and his co-driver is ok.

These barriers are nasty - they will hold when impacted with front end or with side of the vehicle. But if they break when car hits with 60 degree angle, sharp end can easily penetrate into vehicle. There are confirmed cases when beam barrier beheaded of killed driver in the vehicle.

They are also lethal for bikers.

F1Lite: Kubica is in no immediate danger. Internal bleeding has been virtually stopped. Operation on the hand will continue until 7pm GMT. #F1

Amputation is not expected to take place. The hospital will officially comment after 7pm GMT, when the operation is finished. #F1

Found this on Autosport

From tg sky news Italy, direct from the hospital:
no fear for his life, no internal hemorragy, hand not to be amputated, trying to restore functions of the hand, surgery only in first phase, will end at approximately 20 CET, only after that the medical staff wille give official information in a press confernce

:(

Awful news to wake up. The first tweet I saw was a panicky one that said his arm may be amputated, so much shock... Glad that won't be the case.

Hope he recovers fully.

The hand injury sounds serious. Terrible news.

Major dilemma for Renault. What do they do for this season. They have a car that has potential but need to develop it with a driver like Kubica and then score points also.

I'm glad for him that amputation isn't necessary, but it still sounds very, very bad.
In this phase, but it still could be possible, if problems appear :(

Performing surgery and placing rods/screws to stabilize the hand doesn't mean its going to be a viable hand. We won't know that answer for a while.

I'm just glad his life is no longer in danger.
