Melbourne is always a good race, usually plenty of crashes.

Melbourne has got to be one of my favourite tracks of all time. The one track I can always remember watching whilst growing up was Melbourne.

Love it even more in F1 2010 .

What are peoples predictions for next weekend?

I'm thinking Alonso in the top 3, Webber might actually get a good start to the season and Vettel may finish Melbourne for once.

McLaren have ditched their octo-puss exhaust "wasn't sufficiently race durable" in their own words.
Back to a standard narrow exhaust and floor for the rest of the year.

From the talk it sounds like Whitmarsh has chopped a load of the "radical" stuff that wasn't working to go back to the simplier designs that have helped Ferrari & RBR a huge amount so far in winter testing.

I'm quite surprised that the design didn't work for Mclaren. You'd think simulators would be far enough advanced that they would be able to tell whether or not something would work, and be able to factor in various stresses and temperature effects, etc. I wonder what variable it is they're not able to account for that caused it to work differently than they had expected?

As far as I know the material there were using to make it was banned, and they needed to use that to make it work

From the twitter chat today, it seems they material they wanted to make their exhaust from is now banned and the replacements aren't good enough.
The whole concept of the car is this exhaust system and without this ceramic material it won't work.
The replacement material changes shape when super heated and literally shakes the exhaust off the car.

i think they were trying to exploit a loophole in the rules, but the ruling guys said nope

I'm assuming TSN in Canada will have the HD feed, since they already used the widescreen feed plus the BBC commentators last year. I wished thet would go all the way and get the preview shows. So annoying!

Just selected my team, 5 million left over, but I can't see the value in spending that on the options available. They do seem a lot more generous with the starting funds this year.

f1racemanager is set up for this season now.
the old NeoGAF subleague is still standing and you can set up your team for Australia.

if new members want to join:
The private subleague is called NeoGAF, and the password is gaffers.

I think Schumacher has broken peoples expectations. The best drivers in most generations only won one or 2 championships in their career.

Mclaren wanted to make the "Octopuss" from Pyrosic but it was banned. Ferrari had also asked to use the material but were also turned down.

Ferrari and Mclaren were playing around with the material but for Ferrari it was going to be as an upgrade to their car. For Mclaren it was what their car was designed around.
