For example, in Monopoly the iPad is laid down on the table and acts as the board. The individual players have an iPod/iPhone to look at their money/properties and roll the dice by shaking.
I realize it'd be pretty niche as you'd need a lot of expensive equipment to pull it off, but you could always do 'pass n play' with one iPod/iPhone amongst all the players.

Honestly, I'd hate to be an iPhone developer. There are too many free games, IMO. I haven't paid for a game since Civ Rev... and I've got so many I haven't touched (or have hardly touched) that I'm totally happy to wait for big price drops on some of the games I'm interested in (to name a few: Sword of Fargoal, which to be honest I probably wouldn't pay more than a buck for despite my fond memories of the C64 version, Simpsons Arcade, Space Invaders, etc.)
Maybe some of those will never drop and in the long term I'll be willing to spend the money, but I'm happy to wait for now.
Gta is good, make sure you get Angry Birds, Minisquadron. I also really like iblast moki.schuelma said:Ok, just got an ipod touch from my wife..tried to browse the thread but its just way too big- top recommendations everyone? Interests are pretty broad, but really enjoy strategy games. Also interested in how the major franchise ports are- how is GTA Chinatown Wars?
Thanks
I haven't had any issues with the controls, only thing I feel really sucks though is how the Sniper Rifle is handled, took a while to hit something with it.wmat said:I recommend Tumbledrop and BirdStrike right now. If you're into oldschool C&C-like RTS stuff, check out Warfare Inc.
GTA: CTW .. Well, it's got some problems with the controls, but since the cars auto-adjust to the road by default, it's bearable.
Apart from controls and improved graphics, it's a 1:1 port. Eats a lot of battery juice though.
I think it's too expensive for the dent in quality it gets because of the controls, but what are you gonna do.

Well, the problem here is they went for a genre that's flooded the app store. If you're going to release an Arkanoid clone nowadays, it's gotta have some great gimmick to make it stand out from the pack (take it from someone who worked on not one but *three* Arkanoid games on the iPhone).Dracor said:I'd like to recommend a game called "Seraphim’s Scepter". It's an Arkanoid like game that is actually really well done. Tons of levels, powerups, high score list, wallpapers for your app...
Sadly I read developers actually have barely any sales and is considering dropping out of the App Store. Maybe some good word of mouth can help out.
PhlivoSong said:This might be true partially, but I think iPad apps are going to have prices that are of some degree higher than iPhone/iPod Touch apps. A lot of developers don't like how low the prices for iPhone software has gotten, but seemingly conform because of how big the install base is. That install base isn't going to be there for the iPad and won't be (comparatively speaking) for a long time, so developers will price their software according to what they think will be required to make a profit. I don't think the market for iPad apps is going to be quite as hot because of the difference in prices, and I think more than ever a good lite version will be required for iPad software. Not to mention, the quality/usability of iPad apps has the potential to be significantly greater with the added screen real estate.

After some searching on the store, I don't think that exists yet.quetz67 said:I am just starting to write a little adventure creator (think Visionaire "light" without any walking anims) for iPhone. Does anybody know if something like that already exists?
The adventure creator will be Flash, only the player will then be either compiled with Flash CS5 or native Cocoa code, dunno yet.wmat said:After some searching on the store, I don't think that exists yet.
I'd strongly recommend going native.quetz67 said:The adventure creator will be Flash, only the player will then be either compiled with Flash CS5 or native Cocoa code, dunno yet.
I bought this and it's nice but... Why does the slider/ship disappear. Am I doing it wrong?Dracor said:I'd like to recommend a game called "Seraphims Scepter". It's an Arkanoid like game that is actually really well done. Tons of levels, powerups, high score list, wallpapers for your app...

Have tried Flex and think it is the perfect tool for a web based application for building the adventures. Will just throw out a bunch of XML files.wmat said:I'd strongly recommend going native.

I'm working on the new levels this week, so hopefully the level pack will be out next week! As for the exploding bug, it's a problem with the balloons when the level resets that I'm going to try to nail down.Tf53 said:I'm running out of levels on Tumbledrop. I have one left on Medium and three on Hard that I haven't got the heart medal for.
One thing that's pissing me off, though, is a small bug that causes pieces to "blow up" after I restart the level. This is the worst on level 52.
Hmm, the physics should be the same, I haven't had this reported before. Which iPhone/iPod are you using? There is definitely some chaos in the game because of the physics though, but I've tried to make the game as forgiving as possible with that. Also, one other thing that both bugs me and elates me is the randomness of the physics. It seems that between restarts the position of the pieces changes ever so slightly, resulting in different balances, which makes replicating a certain result hard.
