Wow, what the hell happened to PvZ? 2 1/2 star rating now, after reading some reviews it looks like the update completely fucked the game and they removed MJ zombie.
It crashes to to home screen after it finishes loading everytime for me.

I crashed for me after loading my adventure game.
Game has a 1-star rating in the AppStore from
me until they release a patch for the patch.

Sloppy work from popcap

Word Ace (and the Card Ace games) are just about to (FINALLY) get Push Notifications. While it's not turn-based (and squicken <- re: username = ewwww...), it's finally going to be much, much easier to hop online when your friends are online.

We've got Retina Display-compatible icons, and our artist is currently taking a break from the New Project(tm) to re-export all the other art at the proper resolution for the display. Should be fully RD-compatible soon.

Fuuuuuu....

http://www.destructoid.com/michael-jackson-s-leeches-force-plants-vs-zombies-update-179992.phtml

That den of parasites known formally as the "Jackson Estate" has forced Plants vs. Zombies developer PopCap to update its popular defense game due to a zombie that resembles Michael Jackson's classic look from the "Thriller" music video. Known as the Dancing Zombie, this enemy had the iconic jacket and a joke bio that stated its similarities to real-life figures was "purely coincidental."

Unfortunately, the Jackson Estate doesn't take too kindly to jokes, and sent a pestilent army of lawyers to protest against the game. Faced with a potential lawsuit, PopCap made a "business decision" to patch the adversary out of the game.

Be warned that if you have already bought Plants vs. Zombies and try to update the game on an iPhone 4, the game will crash. You'll have to wait for PopCap to fix that specific issue before you update the game. You might as well thank Jackson's vampiric survivors for that inconvenience, too.

Considering how broke those assholes are and that the Dancing Zombie could easily have been protected as a parody, PopCap should have fought the Jackson Estate and struck a blow for justice. These leeches need to learn that, now Jackson's dead, they should go and get jobs rather than suing someone every time they want a another pet giraffe covered in gold.

His rage made me :D

This is excellent news!

I can't get my iPhone and iPad to stay connected together for more than 30 seconds when playing Chopper 2 and it's pissing me off.

Not sure if the app is coded badly or one of my idevices has bluetooth issues.

Was that that latest update or is it still to come? I just updated in the last day or two :(

Not sure, I think it was the latest update.

Picked up Jet Car Stunts today. I'm surprised at how well it handles.

I'm ambivalent about the MJ Zombie. It kinda sucks but they improved the icon tenfold so overall it's a mixed bag.

Anyone have a problem with the Rock Band app crashing if you try to restore purchases? It's on an iPhone 4 so it must be more than it just running out of memory.

I highly suggest strategery also, that has online multiplayer but again you need to know the people unlike carc and WWF where you can play randoms. strategery is like risk-"lite" in that there isnt hella unpredictability with risk cards and limits to the amount of troops on certain areas. A little lacking on the visuals but at 99c it's kinda a steal.
I've had that game for a year and a half, and it's probably still my #1 play on the iPod.

The official Risk app is solid, but it feels a little slow, what with the repetitive animations and all. Also, it's horrible for the colorblind -- or at least for me. I pick blue, so I can tell who I am, but the red/green/yellow/orange/whatever teams all look exactly the same to me.

I will say they've done a great job with the map, though. The territories look small, but I've never accidentally tapped on the wrong one. Still, it feels more like it should be on the iPad than the iPhone/iPod.

After a couple rounds of Risk, I was itching to play Strategery again. It's just so fast-paced and frictionless. It has a lot that I like, and almost nothing I dislike.

Hey, has anyone else started seeing games with ads by Greystripe? They're really annoying and I hate them. Not only do they take over your screen, but they also force you to click on them even if you want to skip them. So far I've only seen them in Eliminate Gun Range, so avoid that unless you want to be annoyed by Greystripe ads.

I just picked up Mikado Defenders and absolutely love it. Could anyone recommend me some other Tower Defense games for the Touch?

Here are the stand outs as I see them:

Plants vs Zombies - Even without the MJ zombie, it still is amazing, and extremely fun.

Defender Chronicles - SOOOOO much content. There's like 200 hours of gameplay here if you enjoy grinding the high-level RPG content out, and a good 20 even if you don't. Visually gorgeous fantasy themed with tons of units at once (probably most of any TD game ever). Good sound/music as well.

GeoDefense (& swarm) - Very pretty, prefer the original because of the more unique gameplay than swarm, but TD has never looked so nice in space.

Elemental Monster TD - Mixes a lite-CCG aspect in to the game, another huge looking game.

Towers in Space - Another huge amount of content here, extremely awful VA aside, you have a very component TD game here, with 50+ types of creeps, and for the price I picked it up for (free), it's way surpassed my expectations.

Crystal Defenders - Squaresoft Final Fantasy TD, guess if you're a fan of FF, seeing the little enemies running by your screen may hold enough charm to push this up in to the consider category. Expensive though :(

Other not-so-worthy but still mentionable titles: 7 Cities (boat TD), Garden War (garden TD), Fieldrunners (original iPhone TD hit), Creeps (nightmares attacking your bed TD).

Is there any way I can roll my firmware back from 4.0 to 3.1.3 on my ipod touch 2g?

It has been terrible since upgrading to 4.0. Battery life dropped tremendously, and it keeps losing the security key for my wireless router. It's getting really frustrating.

Download 3.1.3 from the net and hold shift when pressing restore. That'll let you pick the firmware you downloaded and restore to it.

I'd like to know more about this. My 3GS has 4.0 and it looks like there's no 4.0 jb anytime soon. I really want to sell the phone jb and unlocked to get a few more dollars out of it.

Does anyone know when puzzle quest 2 is coming to the app store?

I remember somebody on Touch Arcade posted a link to an article stating that Puzzle Quest 2 won't be release until late fall 2010 on the Iphone. I'm sure the article is on the General Gaming Forum at Touch Arcade.

Edit: Shining Force and Hero of Sparta II are released in the US Store.

Pretty sure that's not going to work. Just like you couldn't return from 3.0 to 2.1.2, you can't go back from 4.0 to 3.1.3. It's part of Apple's fight with Jailbreaking.

Yeah, it's nigh on impossible.
I tried with my 3G, first by putting it into recovery mode. When trying to upload the old firmware it failed 5 times in a row. Then I gave up.

It's only 3GS's and newer that have blocks to stop downgrading I thought. Maybe you need to enter DFU mode before attempting it.

You can downgrade a 3G or 3GS pretty easily. You download the firmware for 3.1.3, plug the phone in and then wack it in DFU mode, use the shift click method in iTunes to choose the firmware, and let it run. After 10 minutes or so it comes up with an error that it failed, then you just use RecBoot to kick the phone out of recovery mode and voila!

Personally I found that disabling Spotlight actually sped my 3G up quite a bit - try that first before going through any downgrade route.

Goddamnit, I didn't know about the RecBoot step. I didn't realise you can disable Spotlight these days either. Might have to do that on my iPhone 4 too since I never ever use it.

Edit: Seems I can't disable Spotlight on my iPhone 4. It must be a setting on the 3G only?

Disabling is a bit of a misnormer, you can't disable it completely but you can exclude everything but 1 search result option, which speeds things up a tad especically if the one you leave on is one that you dont have anything in (ie. Audiobooks).

Yeah, I suppose disabiling isn't the right word, it's more like turning all the options off. It's under Settings -> General -> Home Button -> Spotlight Search

Is Civilization Revolutions any good? Seems to have a lot of 5 star ratings...

What's the best 4X game for the iPhone? Or maybe just some good ones will do.
