Yeah, I don't disagree at all. I'm just surprised there hasn't been more pre-release buzz about individual titles, considering Apple has generally been so proprietary about everything.
I think the lack of buzz was because of Apple's NDA on SDK use, which made it tough to really talk about any of the software being developed with it. But the volume of titles available certainly bolsters the notion that there's definitely buzz among the dev community.

This is a screenshot I took with the 2.0 update, of me playing Super Monkey Ball, uploaded using the Mobile Flickr app.

2.0 am god, confirmed. We're all fucked when Peggle comes out.

The only thing I don't get is why is Microsoft able to get away with it (zune update), and not apple. :<

Perhaps MS was accounting for the Zune on a subscription basis as Apple is doing with the iPhone and Apple TV. After all, there is the zune pass that users can opt in for.

So you can take screenshots in-game? What was the process for doing this?

Hold the Home key and press the Power button up top. The screen will flash white and the image will be placed with all your regular pictures. It's one of the new features with the 2.0 update and can be used at anytime. It's the besttttt.

Since I probably won't have my iPhone-3G until tomorrow, can anyone recommend if some these titles below are worth purchasing?

- Super Monkey Ball (already downloaded)
- Bejeweled 2
- Bomberman Touch
- Critter Crunch
- Zen: Pinball
- Bubble Bash
- Aqua Forest

Skip Aqua Forest.

Crosswords, by the way, is fantastic.

Oh what the fuck? We have to pay 10 bucks to use a store?

Apple fucked us on the last update too, the one they asked 20$ for with the apps that iPhone users and new iTouch users are getting for free.

Seems like this might take a bite out of the PSP.

It's nice to have a lot of little games (plus everything else an iphone or touch can do) for download instead or the occasional interesting UMD game.

Lack of ram is the only negative.

Can you add SD ram cards to iphones or itouch?

you cant add ram but there is at least 8 GB of memory... however controls are the problem, and while few games will be fun, based on my experience with launch iphone, it is very basic fun.

are there demos of games like on xbox live?

are there any free ones too?
No demos per se, but there is a preview button that allows you to view a brief video of in-game play.

Edit- my bad, looks like the preview button was just available for the games available in the old store for iPods. Haven't looked through all the new games, but so far I'm not seeing a preview button for the iPhone/iTouch games.

Yeah, I waited to buy a Touch with the Apps already on so I didn't get fucked over. Looks like I am anyway though.

SOLD

that looks great. it's basically yahtzee minus the trademark, right?

Kind of. Imagine if you were playing Yahtzee against another player for one set of three rolls to see who gets a better hand - that's MotionX-Poker.

There are 5 unlockable tables based on your cash level, and there are various bonuses for how you win (streaks, low hands, comebacks, etc).

I suck at monkeyball T.T, also kinda disappointed Poker is wifi local multiplayer only considering my old ghetto phone had online play.

holy shit?

wonder how many of them are decent.

If they're anything like the jailbreak games that are out now, 1 maybe 2.

I'm not sure if i really want to upgrade to 2.0. First of all, i need to wait till they unlock 2.0. After that, i have to decide if i want to keep the apps that i have now or lose them all and upgrade to 2.0.

Yeh but it's Apple, Apple is cool and edgy. If you don't have the latest from Apple you're a PC geek living in your mum's basement.

/me got fucked for the apps with my iPod touch as well. It left me slightly less butt sore than dealing with iTunes, what a POS it is.

Omg MLB.com At Bat makes me want an iPhone. :| Can I use this on Sprint's network somehow? How does the jailbreak thing or whatever work?

Not possible due to hardware incompatibility.

I'm going to spend so much money on this app store, by the way. My wallet is in pain.

I just want to suggest everyone gets the FREE AOL Radio..it rocks! You can get radio stations from all over America and you don't need Wi-Fi. Some stations even have it set up where they show you what song is on and you can buy it right there from the itunes store (WiFi needed) It rocks!

Oh, Critter Crunch is pretty awesome too and super cute to boot.

Wowzers. I will totally have to check that out.

Did you try the other radio service too?

From what I've gathered, the CPU is clocked higher (and it should be faster in general as it's ARM based CPU, vs. the MIPS in PSP) but the GPU is much weaker (but more battery friendly... the battery in PSP is a monster in comparison to what you have in Iphone). Iphone also has quite a bit more RAM, but the app size probably has to be something small (all of them so far are pretty small)

All in all, from the 3D games I've seen, graphics are somewhere half way between DS and PSP.
This Comparison sheet has some comparative specs for various handheld devices.

iPhone graphics have better image qualities than PSP -- better definition, 3D depth, and color blending -- and support more advanced features like DOT3 normal map texturing, yet the lower silicon and power consumption of its MBX Lite + VGP Lite graphics core limit it to around half of the PSP's performance.

A game still in development, Ascension, looks to utilize the hardware well for an early effort.

Its tile based, deferred rendering architecture delivers a lot more performance for a given budget of power consumption, though, and clocking its variable rate SoC higher could theoretically give it the performance crown.

klepek seemed to really dig critter crunch in his MTV write-up, I trust his word that its one of the great games on the store right now.

got my 16gb 3Ger.

Syncing now and checking out the apps, will probably pick up a few games to check out and whack my impressions up.

Evillore get me a GAF app ;)
god damn safari!

Went to the Apple store today, to check in person when the iTouch firmware will be available...

"We don't know, actually Apple hasn't told us...we only find out through their website like everyone else."

Are you fucking kidding me?!?!?!?

even in the Apple HQ itself, people don't know or even have access to what other parts of the building are working on.

Dudes, go to a Carphone Warehouse, they are starting the mail orders already. They actually have stock reserved just for mail orders, they have 16gbs you can order next day delivery.

Also, anyone tried Enigmo?

is it multiplayer? It'd be good to hand it round among players.

as for the cost, I mentioned in the other thread that I didn't mind paying a little for the previous itouch firmware as at least we were getting some new apps. but if this new firmware simply allows me to install software, then I resent paying for something that lets me install things I've already paid for. app store is a new revenue stream for apple so they shouldn't charge me to get access to it.

I watched that whole vid expecting to see some cool gameplay idea/mechanic. Spent the whole 2 minutes wondering wtf the big deal was. Then I came back to the thread and realised the big deal is that its a good looking mobile phone game.

And it looks VERY good I must say. Colour me impressed.

MotionX-Poker does not have a multiplayer mode, sadly, although it does have a free roll mode so if you wanted to use it to play Yahtzee proper you could.

As for the iPod Touch firmware cost - the new firmware is not simply the app store update, it's also the enterprise features Apple's been talking up. Those may be completely useless to you and most iPod touch users, but those are significant features and Sarbanes-Oxley is in full effect, y'all.
