wow that looks amazing, day 1.

The iphone/touch is quickly becoming a very competent gaming platform. Sure they are a long way behind PSP and DS but with games like some of the ones we have got lately it is making good ground. In fact it is already at a point with me where I will leave my ds/psp at home now most of the time as I am content with the games iphone give me.

I am starting an iPod Touch/iPhone games and apps review site. I know there are already some of these, but it's still new ground. Can't promise any money, but that would happen eventually if it became successful. I'm looking for people interested in writing reviews.

PM me.

On behalf of the folks at Secret Exit, I am giving away 15 promo codes for their game, SPiN. The game is featured here.

The first 15 people to send me a PM will get a code. [Code only works in the US store] Be sure to thank the guys at Secret Exit and leave a good review if you like the game!

All codes are now gone. If you still want to give the game a spin (Heh, get it? Spin?), try the lite (free) version here

So I picked up that Amateur Surgeon game, and I can't seem to understand what it wants me to do. I got to the second patient, where you pull the glass shards out, and I can fix those wounds after, but the other ones won't let me do anything. Yet the patient isn't healed. Frustrating.

Thanks for sharing Flunkie. :)
As I Pm'd you about just now, the code only works for the US store so feel free to redistribute mine.

Thx for the code. Anyone wanna explain how the redeem thing works. Once you enter the code do you go buy the item like normal?
It should automatically download if you redeemed from your PC. If you did it from the iTunes app on the phone, you just need to enter the app store and it will start downloading.

If you're talking about where you actually put the code, there's a tab on the right hand side of the Home section in the iTunes Store called "Redeem". Just click that, input your code there, and it should automatically download when it accepts.

Thx. Didn't see where it had downloaded at first but now I do.

Christ, does Apple not screen app submissions for quality? Serious question BTW, I'm a new Touch owner. :)
Apple previously did not allow those types of applications, but I guess they changed their policies, and thus all the fart apps got released on the same day. Nothing significant really, and it's pretty old news.

I just lost an hour or so to SPiN. I feel more in tune with my spacial reasoning. For something that amounts to a little more than the games we would play as a child (square peg goes into square hole), it sure is entertaining. Perfect app to zone out to.

Thanks a ton for the code Flunkie!

Updates (9.05) to both X-plane and X-Plane Airliner....

NEW AIRPLANES!

For X-plane the Piper Malibu and *drumroll*... the Beech King-Air (YES!!!). Plus some new instrument panels.

For Airliner The 737 and MD-88...the 88 with it's classic panel, wooo.

Yeah Edge looks pretty slick. 5.99 sounds a bit steep though... Wish there was a lite version to try it out. Who wants to take one for the team?

I just grabbed Snowball Runner for 115 yen (probably a little over one dollar).
It's awesome fun. You have to control a snowball rolling down a hill, trying to make it bigger, while avoiding hazards, just by tilting left and right. The controls are perfect and the graphics and music are both awesome. I had to reset my iPod to get it running properly (there is a warning screen telling you to free up resources if necessary) and after that it was smooth as butter.

Bought Edge too. A quick play gives very positive feelings. It really oozes style, but the controls might cause a little bit of trouble - your finger ends up blocking parts of the screen you probably want to see. But I haven't put much effort into it yet, so I can't write it off so soon.

are there any good music/rythm games for the iphone where you can use your own music?

The current iPhone API doesn't allow access from 3rd party software to your music library. So, no.

How's the difficulty so far? The footage kind of reminded me of Crush a little bit, and that game was way too hella hard for me.

This is what I was afraid of. The accelerometer (sp?) and touch controls are somewhat gimmicky and do not lead to tight controls. From looking at the video, the game requires precision maneuvering and timing.

It's pretty rad. I've developed one game (Ivory Tiles, woo) and I'm working on the sequel and having great fun. The development tools are awesome (had a little trouble with getting PVRTexTool working, I had to use the Windows version and shuttle textures across to my Mac, but it's better now). There's also the Oolong Engine which looks like it's gonna make it a lot easier to get 3d stuff going on (I had to write my own shitty renderer, bleh).

You also have to pay Apple $99 to get the ability to run binaries on your iPhone or iTouch, just a heads up. if you have a Mac though, seriously try it out. Are you a programmer?

Yeah that $99 dollar fee is a bitch. I've taken a couple classes in Java and messed around with making games. I made pong! 3d stuff is still way above me though.

What do you think of the programming language for the iPhone? objective-c or something like that. If I do end up developing for the iPhone, it won't be for a while. I've still got a lot of basics to learn.

If you know Java, and you'd rather work in it, you might check out Google Android - that's all Java, it's got a roughly comparable toolset (Eclipse instead of Xcode, but it's got a simulator as well). It took me a little while to get used to Objective-C, but it helps that the API is really, really well designed. You pick it up rather quickly as you go along, and most of the concepts are stuff that has a direct analogue in Java. I wrote the core of the game in zero-allocation C++ and just did all the UI in Objective-C, by the end I wasn't really having any trouble at all.

Edge, wow, Edge...

Its like zen in my hand, the music and sound efx are so good...

My fav app so far!

I picked this up today, only played the first 5 levels so far but having a great time with it.

On another note, why doesn't this or Crayon Physics appear on the Aus appstore? Searching for Crayon Physics yields no results on both my iphone or the itunes appstore. However although I couldn't find Edge on my iPhone appstore I did via iTunes.

What the hell? Crayon Physics is a buggy unplayable piece of shit. God damn it! Patch this crap!

Dr. Awesome is simple yet... Awesome. Also downloaded EDGE. It's freaking brilliant.
