Just do a search for "lite". It pulls up every lite app in the store.

Or go down the top 100 list for games and click on the publisher of the titles that interest you. Then you can find out if they have a lite version for that particular title.

You're getting ripped off if your coffee costs $5 a cup.

my point: sure, $5 may not be a lot of money to some, but some of us are tightwads who buy the regular $.15/cup coffee. In that case I'd have to go a full month without coffee to make up for it, so the game better be entertaining enough to keep me awake. :D

I'm not seeing any scenario where a $5 purchase is something to regret, sorry. It's just not a big deal.

Not sure why people complain about the iPhone apps cost 5.99 or 9.99 honestly.

lets take assasins creed which just came out for the iPhone at 9.99 I own both the Ds and iPhone versions and the DS is clearly the loser.

The iPhone looks better, and has zero stutter. Also it's only 9.99 vs the 29.99 39.99 price point for the DS version.

Hell read this review to judge for yourself.

I think the iPhone has more hits than some other handhelds out there (PSP) and while you don't have 40 hours games for the most part these last a few hours and cost a HELL of a lot less.

I think people always want what they want cheaper and right now that is very possible on the iphone. I'm personally of the opinion that game prices should rise a bit (although I'm not a big booster on the long rumoured premium app store..cue discussion with Tobor ;) ) but that's something that Apple has to support on multiple fronts and with bigger games.

I think it is because the iPhone model is about selling games for very cheap, and that's a major part of what defines iPhone gaming. So when you try to sell your games expensively, then you lost the appeal of what an iPhone game is suppose to be.

Imagine many of your iPhone games are 9.99, then I would rather spend that on some XBLA, PSN or Wiiware titles. They clearly have much more production value.

LEAF TROMBONE IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE.

99 cents, and it's endless amounts of fun (if you're into music).

Don't ask questions, just buy it right now.

It's not for everybody so I would be slightly more reserved as a universal recommendation but it is damn original and unique. I smile the whole time I play it. :D

Your bold lettering and general excitement just earned the developers one dollar from me. We'll see if that was a dollar well spent in a while!

Edit: That was a dollar well spent. Fun stuff. Only sort of a game, but still cool to toy around with.

Anyone know of a master list of iPhone games with Facebook Connect? For some reason I love that feature.

I am hopelessly addicted to Drop7.

Drop7 is the one iPhone game I keep coming back to consistently. I have a bunch of nice ones, but Drop7 has the biggest "must play a little bit right now" appeal out of all of them so far.

I just recently downloaded 7 Cities, and that's starting to do the same sort of thing. It's wonderful, and I think I like it better than Fieldrunners and geoDefense, though I still need to play all three some more. They have their differences.

Not sure if this is bs or not but I'll post anyway.

Mass Effect certainly is moving to multiple platforms -- just not the one you might have been expecting. A ******* reader recently took a survey about an upcoming Mass Effect app for the iPhone/iPod Touch, and according to the survey, this portable Mass Effect will feature Jacob Taylor, "a biotic-powered super-soldier who stumbles across a plot to terrorize civilization's greatest beacon of hope."

The mobile game will feature top-down shooter combat and a stylized, cartoonish look. The survey notes that Jacob's Story will function as a predecessor to the upcoming Mass Effect 2, revealing some of the backstory of characters featured in the console game. The handheld adventure would be about two hours long and cost $2.99.

Depending on the success of this first mobile adventure, EA and BioWare would look into expanding the Mass Effect game into an entire series. The survey also mentions the possibility of mobile games based on the Dragon Age universe.

We're certainly intrigued by this expansion of the Mass Effect universe, but we can't help but wonder why EA and BioWare would limit it to just the iPhone audience. We're pretty certain DS and PSP owners wouldn't mind a portable Mass Effect experience either. We've contacted EA and BioWare for more details, and will update the post if/when they respond to our inqueries.

I would buy that Mass Effect game in a fucking second.

Also, I bought Eliss, but I cannot figure out what the fuck I'm supposed to be doing in it. Anyone want to help? :(

I've been meaning to get Scrabble. That might push me over the line. I forgot urbanspoon had it too. Haven't used it in a while.

Here, let me push you over the line: the Scrabble Facebook Connect allows you to play asynchronously with Facebook users (who have the Facebook app on their account). It's not just "krypt0nian scored 252 on Scrabble!" like Drop7 does; it's actual network play and you can have a number of games going at the same time. You can also start a game on the iPhone and then take turns on Facebook proper if you want.

It's one of the best implemented network setups I've seen thus far on the iPhone.

For Eliss, you want to either combine or split circles of like colors until they fit into the little "stars" of the same color. That will clear the circle off the screen, and the goal for each stage is to clear X amount of circles.

Each time you clear a circle little triangles will fly around the screen, you can touch the triangles to refill your energy (assuming different colored circles had collided and caused damage).

That's the general idea, I'm sure the circles and stars have fancy terms, but I don't know them. The game is tricky and takes some practice for sure.

We just submitted our game on Monday (4/20)!

Here's a video (apologies for the quality - I did it in iMovie and I suck as an editor):

http://vimeo.com/4287705

Wooo! And some early press!

http://fingergaming.com/tag/trixel/

It's called Trixel and it's very simple.

- You move to flip the tiles on the board and match the pattern on the top left.

- You have limited moves to do it.

- You can only move one space horizontally or vertically adjacent.

- You also have to consider 'super tiles' later on, such as tiles that flip all tiles within a radius, tiles that warp you elsewhere or tiles that you need to step over in a specific order.

And your game is out.

Might want to do an announcement post over at Touch Arcade and give out a few free ones to goose awareness if you haven't already.

Funny about the performance issues with the doom port, I would have thought the iphone hardware to be considerably more powerful than the 33Mhz 486 I ran it on back in the day.

It's up?

Edit: I'm not seeing DOOM in the app store...

I think he is simply saying it requires more optimization work than doom. Wolf has no floors and no ceilings among other differences.

Top score on the flight control leaderboard

2352.

Next score 1153.
:lol

That dude who had over three hundred on this board would be about 35th to 40th right now.

I won't tell my score or my username until I boost my score!

It's a lot of fun to play, but the online judging and stuff is what made my jaw drop. That fuzz is crazy. So awesome.

I play the Drop7 Lite version, starting to understand the game a little more, I just don't understand why sometimes solid block get to explode - even when it is not next to one of those number block that just got exploded.

But anyway, is there much else Drop7 offers in the full version? The Lite version seems to have everything in the main mode already.

I haven't played the lite version, since I bought the game when it was $1, but, so far as I know, the full game has "normal", "hardcore", and "sequence". Normal is the "easy" mode, while Hardcore is a much quicker game, where no "solid" blocks are dropped, only given, whereas in the Normal mode you are given a fresh row of solid blocks on each new level and a random solic block throughout the game. This actually makes the Normal game a bit easier than the Hardcore mode, but the Hardcore mode is more fun to play (in my opinion). Sequence is the same for everyone, and the goal is to just to get the highest score you can possibly get. Sorry if that is explained in the lite version for you...

As for the solid blocks, they ONLY explode if a block explode next to them. Let's say in a horizontal row you have four blocks (solid, 5,6,3), and you drop a 5 next to the solid. The two 5's will explode, causing the solid that sits between them to explode completely open, revealing a random number. A solid block will ONLY, and I've already said this and I repeat this, explode if a number block explodes next to it. If you think otherwise, you're just not paying attention.

<3 Drop7. It's the only game I play on my iTouch. edit: besides Heavy Mach.

ARE THERE...

Any good roguelikes on the app store?

RogueTouch is... well it's totally fucking lackluster compared to a lot of completely free roguelikes on PC. I play it a bunch but only because I feel like playing a roguelike on the train and it's the only option. IT MAKES ME SICK TO THE STOMACH THOUGH!!!

Okay it's not that bad, but I've definitely experienced much, much better. Both free and otherwise.

EDIT: I'm gonna finally have to jailbreak a bitch, aren't I. ):

You really should head over to T-A and start a thread about your game, offering a couple of promos, if it gathers hype there it should mean a lot. The video you made looks great and should get some attention.

I've played 25 of the easy puzzles now, so far surprising my own brain with the fact that I actually can complete them :)

Great presentation, good design and interesting specials. I think this will keep my interest for a long time.

Thanks for the tips and the compliment. I really appreciate them as it's been stressful building this so quickly. If there's anything you think can be improved too, please feel free to mail me - dan @ adept - games . com (nuke the spaces obviously) - since we'll likely do an update. It's very easy for me to add levels, but well tuned levels that don't seem repetitive to the former is the design challenge. I had 500 levels built in total and scrapped about 400 so it would feel well-tuned. :-|

I'm actually spending all of today doing exactly what you suggested across a few forums, and writing a long-ass dev blog (in small chunks) to put up next week. Should be good reading for folks who are wanting to get into the biz - iPhone or otherwise.

Reposted to put the above post on the beginning of the next page but also to post this. Shit jumped up last night crazy high score wise. Although there is a local scoreboard based on where you live which is a bit more manageable.
