The Official iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming Thread

Why am I so thrifty with my iphone purchases.. my mindset right now is that i've already paid >$10 for the pc games

which is ridiculously cheap as it is.. and i'm struggling to budge that one more dollar

Other than Peggle, I also bought Sally's Salon seeing it being #1 on the App Store. The title sounds like a girl game, but it is actually a very addicting management puzzler. Very fun. Lite version available too.

The reason I am going to wait on Sims 3 and a few others. Gotta hold out for the fire sale. :lol

I don't think there will be a fire sale any time soon on The Sims 3 when it's a top seller in every country that iTunes supports.

Well that's Peggle bought for the umpteenth time, just need Plants Vs Zombie now please so i can buy that again.

PvZ on iTouch would be sweet. I can see the problem though, there are too many rows to fit well on the tiny screen. They might have to tweak the game to make a version with only 4 rows instead of 6.

Is there any filtering for games or apps that specifically utilize an iphone feature that isn't available on the itouch? Any specific indication on the product page?

It is going to be tough waiting out a year with brand new apps that I can't use but I'm not going to give in and just wait for next year's model.

Well when reading the app's iTune description it will say under requirements which devices it is compatible with.

Better still, however, is if you use your device's own AppStore app since it AUTOMAGICALLY filters out all apps that don't pertain to your device. I didn't notice this at first and once was getting really annoyed I couldn't find Playtomo in the AppSore app on my iPod Touch when I then realized, re-checking the iTunes description, it ONLY works for iphones.

Yep. Peggle was in danger of slipping out of the Top 50. This guarantees a boost in popularity.

Holy shit, wtf is with this Sally's Spa thing? It had a price drop to $.99 which boosted it to #1, overtaking The Sims 3. Peggle's back up to #14.

I accidentally deleted all my apps. $75 dollars worth of mostly games and other apps. :'(

Fucking C drive having less space than the D drive, things were lost in the move because I am an idiot. I emailed Apple asking to redownload them all again, I hope this can be fixed smoothly.

Also thanks for the Peggle update, I'll definitely pick it up.

As stated, you can always redownload apps (at least on your computer) that you have previously purchased.

And at 99c, I think I'll bite for Peggle. Downloaded the Mac demo to what the fuss was - it was ok, but not a definite must-have for me. But 99c is nice.

As I mentioned few posts back, Sally's Spa is actually very fun game similar to Diner Dash. There is a lite version available if you want to try it. I bought it because it got very good reviews and at #1 and I was curious.

I don't know. Any game that features painting toenails might not be too hot.

Been out since monday, I even made an official thread but it got no love :(

opps! I haven't been paying much attention.

Quick impressions: Graphics are downright amazing for a mobile phone game. Physics... I wouldn't call it anywhere near "real" but it does feel pretty good. Sort of reminds me of Grid, or PGR, you have to brake but not really that much.

I have a feeling this is not going to touch GT PSP, but IDK if that is a realistic expectation or goal to even strive for on an iphone game.

Fun so far, need to unlock some more cars and tracks.

I'll probably pick this up..are controls bad, good enough or pretty good?

Control is EXCELLENT. They did a very smart thing by basically making the left half of the screen the brake and the right the gas. No fumbling around trying to hit the brake after a long straight. Tilt control seems very good (and adjustable), haven't tried the touch wheel option yet.

It's a long shot but I've seen crazier sites: Is there a website that hosts iPhone app icons? A bunch say SALE or FREE or UPDATED and I would rather they didn't. I feel like I'm not the only person who would feel this way.

No you are not the only one. I wonder if deleting the file and redownload it again for free (when it's not on sale anymore and without the sale logo) will get rid of that.

I thought there were two icons - one on the device, and one for iTunes software. The one on iTunes software, I always imagined as being live updated (hence the slowness of the apps page in iTunes). And it's these icons that are the same ones shown in the App store and the specials and so forth are only on these icons, so the ones on the device are different. It doesn't bug me enough to hack around iTunes just to replace the icon.

My first iPhone will be on the 19th but my brother said that it's the icon on iTunes is what you'll see on the iPhone. He could be wrong, he doesn't download too many apps and I don't think he's downloaded any from the computer.

However it would be pretty simple, the icon appears to be just like album art which can be changed by right clicking. Maybe I should start a website.

No the icon on the iPhone is always the standard one, only the one on iTunes will have the 'sale logo' on it.

The sale/free&co icons are displayed only on itunes, so... who cares?

I believe there is two icons also, I downloaded fastlane back in january and the app on my touch was different, also some people update their image in updates but the store logo is the old one, or with a sale logo or something.

So my questions about Zenonia a couple pages back weren't clearly answered...

-Can you play the game with your own music?
-If not inherently supported, does the "start playback/start game/lock device/start playback" trick work?
-Are there sounds or music in the game worth listening to instead of my own stuff?

I can awnser the last bit, the default tunes are the sort of things you would expect from a korean game, a bit anime-ish but I like it, they are repeated a LOT so they do get boring.

I have yet to try playing my own music, I never do so with my games.

-No
-Yes
-music and such is good, but there isn't much of it and it loops.

Holy cats!

Since Peggle's price dropped (I just grabbed it), Taxiball's sales have gone up substantially! I was like, WTF?!? until I realized that one of our players posted the original slickdeals post and in the same post, noted Blimp and Taxiball as other games that were on sale for a buck! So Peggle's price drop has ended up helping us out a lot!

Talk about weird! But awesome!

On a totally different note, since one of the things that Taxiball's players have responded to really well was the all-vocal audio track...

Our friends at Instructables have been running a contest called "The Art of Sound," where you post an Instructable about something audio-related. I wrote up a bit about the evolution of the audio in Taxiball here:

http://www.instructables.com/id/A-Case-Study-in-Creating-Videogame-Audio-Taxiball/

If you're interested in a peek behind the scenes, I hope you get a chance to check it out.

Lemme know what you think!
Thanks!

Thanks! Though I just read that there's an update they already submitted to Apple for review that adds iPod functionality built-in, cool beans.

I think I read they are working on an update to allow you to play your own music while playing the game.

Edit: found it, from their official forums

You can already listen to your own music with Zenoia, I do it everytime I play :P. You just hit the home button twice and it brings up the small audio control thing.

I think the best thing about Real Racings controls is that the screen auto-tilts to keep the horizon level as you play. Your view stays steady as the phone tilts.

I thought all the tilt-controlled racers did this. I don't know, since I don't really have any of them.

Taxiball demo stopped working for me. It keeps trying to log into a server to access my old data

I really like TaxiBall, but I don't play it nearly enough:( I never envisioned a Crazy Taxi + Monkey Ball cross, but those are two of my favorite games. I hope it does sell more so there's more than 100 people listed on the scoreboard. There's no way my sad score should be ranked like 30th... :)
