I'm loving the app too!. Even though English isn't my mother tongue so I have some problems thinking up words sometimes, thanks god I can play with my computer near so I can check some online dictionary :D
 
gaf. what are the best games out for the iphone?

red shoe paul's image post interests me as i see bust a move, mr. driller, and megaman 2 but im guessing megaman 2 sucks as it is touch controls..
 
I applaud you for the great idea. Is this a first? Are there variants with actual texas hold'em? I'm thinking this concept is so sound, that this could be a huge thing. If it works how I think it works, people could get quite protective of their stash, even if it's play money.

According to EA Mobile's facebook page, Rock Band is coming to Verizon phones on 9/16, but they're not saying anything about other platforms.

SURELY they wouldn't leave that huge pile of cash on the table, would they?! How much money is Verizon paying for that...hopefully it's just a timed exclusive or something.

That, or they're waiting to announce the Beatles/iPhone version at Apple's event next week. :lol

Some of your apps icons have strange boxes instead of rounded boxes. You run iTunes on Windows? I only ask because they don't appear that way in OS X.
 
Well I can't say no to free...

Now that ivenplayed a bit more of castle of magic, I no longer feel guilty only paying .99 for it. Controls are way too floaty and I keep hitting jump when I mean to hit the attack button. Still a fun game with neat graphics, but too easy and a wee bit imprecise.

Also, unify has to come out like right now.

Megaman 2 is good, I like it. It's just really dumbed down in difficulty for the obvious reason of it being on a phone. I've beaten it already. Cooking Mama is alot of fun, as well as Worms & ToMaCow. I suggest those. :D

Dunno if this is the right place to post it, but none of my downloaded apps are opening anymore... they load for a couple of seconds but then immediately close. Only the defualt apps are functioning. Tried resyncing but no luck.

Is the only option left to restore the settings by formatting?

Basically, all of your apps use shared memory, and one of them is borked so its making all the others crash. If you got lucky you could find the offending app and delete it (assuming my version of events is whats going on), but typically in this situation you're looking at doing a restore (and setting it up as a "new phone", NOT restoring from a backup). I just had to do it recently.

Good advice but I'd go a step further and suggest him buy one of the apps like MemoryInfo that show what's running on the iPhone (there used to be a number of them out there -- and the old version of Memory Info allows for the freeing up of memory by killing every optional app besides the phone one. Doesn't help the new purchasers though). It works wonders for finding out what the heck is still open when you can't figure out what app is giving you a headache.

After getting one of those apps, if you can't even run that then it's time to turn off the iPhone then turn it back on and launch only that. if it still crashes, it could be something trying to give push notification...so turn off your push notifications as well. If it does launch., then begin opening one app up, closing it, waiting 5 seconds or so and launching the memory app again.

It would take time but it's a good way to find out.

Thanks for the advice. I have a Touch, but I assume the process is still the same?
 
Ran into a rather sad glitch in Word Ace :(

Downloaded the game through my iPhone, ran through the tutorial really quickly and went back to main menu when all was said and done. Didn't want to jump into an online game right away not feeling totally comfortable with the mechanics of the game, so I hit "Practice Mode" again, and the game crashed. Now, whenever I try to load the game up again, it just hangs at the developer logo and does nothing. I let it sit for five minutes in the hopes that eventually the game would start up, but nothing. If I hit the home button, it boots me back to the home screen, so my phone isn't frozen, it's just the game. I restarted the phone, same thing. Deleted and redownloaded (through phone), same thing. :(

edit: Now it works. Figures it works the instant I put the frowny face in.

I have a 3g, just jumped straight into online. A few lags and drops, but mostly ok.


I think I'm going to avoid practice mode.


Not sure how it handles drops - do you have to exit to take your winnings?

Also, just a question on the mechanics - it's obvious the Scrabble points are being used, but are the number of tiles also based on scrabble? SO if you have a Q, noone else has one?

What's so bad about it? I find it fine.

THat said, I used to hate touch screen d-pads, and while they're still not ideal, I have grown used to the idiosyncrasies, given the right kind of game.

If you want a terrible port, try columns deluxe. I got it for free, and I feel ripped off.

3GS, yep. It works fine if I just play a game, but practice mode is broken for me.

And, I will admit, I was a bit hasty with my remarks towards the game. It's a fun little twist on the "word twist" formula. Good job.
 
There's dictionary info and word frequency in the official thread. :)

When you drop, or get disconnected, anything in your pot stays with you, but anything in "the muck" stays with the game.

We're looking into the freezing issue now. It seems like if this happens to you, the workaround is to delete the app and re-download it. Short of that, we have no idea what's going on yet. It's bizarre - we've been playing this thing, testing it under every scenario, for months, on dozens of different devices, and have never seen this happen before.

Okay - lemme ask you guys a favor. Please *don't* avoid practice mode. If it hangs, deleting and reinstalling will fix the hang, and it'll keep all your profile info, so you won't lose anything.

But if we can get a read on whether everyone crashes, or only some people, any info we get can help us get to the bottom of this. We've been looking at this problem for the last three hours, and nothing we can do locally reproduces it. So if you do crash, lemme know what happens, and we'll figure it out.

Please send me your results in a PM - I'd hate to clog up this thread with a bunch of this...

Before you reformat the device, I suggest you download and install any app from the app store. That's the advice I got when the same thing happened to me, and it worked like a charm.

Works fine for me, and plays just like any I remember it playing on DC, DS, and PC (aside from the touch screen vs actual buttons/dpad). But it's just as responsive. I've only played arcade mode though. Maybe you tried something else? I dumped about 30 minutes while at work into it, and I try to consciously not play games at work but I couldn't resist Mr. Driller.

I played alot of it on....shit what console...I can't remember. I've always been a big fan of it, it hasn't changed through the years and I'm 100% ok with that.

I don't like the swipe method and I hate the D-Pad interaction. Seems really unresponsive :(

I wanted to love it!
 
Word Ace is pretty good, only complaints are that the default profiles pics look like nninjatown characters, and more importantly, the time to finalise your word at the end of the game is way too long.

Heh. The default avatars are the Self Aware "monolith", which was originally ... the back of an iPhone. hahaha. Basically it was the back of the phone, with some eyes, staring over the text, with a backlit glow that was the screen of the phone casting on a backdrop.

didn't think of ninjatown 'till you mentioned it.

I agree with the time thing. I'd recommend shortening it, and having a button to "lock in" your word, and if everyone locks in it ends.

Similar happened to me also. I ran through the tutorial but went straight to play online instead of practice mode. The game crashed and now just hangs on the developer logo.

I am using an Ipod Touch 2g with fw 3.0 installed.

hah, my bad, hadn't seen it before.

Agree strongly with the lock idea to shorten the end game, perhaps incentivise with bonus point for the first to lock, negative point for the last?
 
One thing that seems clear - the problem in Word Ace seems to be related to a completely clean install, some crash in Tutorial, and some local data getting corrupted, which is causing this "perma-hang" on the logo screen. If you encounter this problem, delete the app, reinstall it, and you should be good to go. Far as we've seen, that fixes the problem.

It doesn't appear to be a persistent fault in the game anywhere else, once you've established your identity with the server.

Again, IF you encounter this problem, please just delete the app and reinstall it. If you've made any progress, your profile info will be saved, so you shouldn't lose anything in the process.
