This title looks interesting but the App Store reviews indicate it has control issues (unresponsive) and memory problems on the 3G. Can you comment?

I've heard of terrible control issues both in anonymous comments and from Tom Chick, whose opinions on strategy games I tend to go along with.

Both of these were suggested here before, so I bought them.

OMG Pirates! and Jet Car Stunts.

They're both fantastic. OMG Pirates! reminds me a lot of Castle Crashers, and it has great visuals. Jet Car Stunts is like a portable version of the old Rush games on the N64. Also awesome graphics.

Both were cheap and are entirely worth it. Go for it.

New 2.0 update to Worms came out yesterday:

- New single player mode, Body Count
- Bluetooth 2- 4 player
- PlusPlus
- Awards
- Leaderboards
- Facebook
- Twitter
- In game music player

Not bad for a free update :)

Bought Pac-Man CE and I gotta say... after you get your head around the controls (and by that I mean, using both thumbs to control), it is really pretty awesome. I bought the expansion pack too and am working my way through the mission mode. The Easy missions are, as advertised, easy. But on Normal difficulty...holy crap! They're quite the challenge.

As many've said and I agree...virtual d-pads aren't great. But...I've found that Pac-Man CE is probably the best implementation of them that I've seen yet. Especially great is that the playfield is moved up so you're not actually covering much of it with your hands, unlike many games where you are.

Too bad the game doesn't have some kind of online/friends leaderboard because that would completely rule. Now I really want them to bring all this content (and more please) to the X360. :)

Yeah, I agree. After a year of my iPhone being my primary gaming device, you really do get used to virtual d-pads - -some games you barely notice.

For anyone that has the Pac-Man CE w/out expansion, does it have the main 5 minute challenge from the 360 version (which is what I mainly want)? iiirc the 360 one had two challenges at 5 and 10 minutes, then three extra modes.

It has a 5 minute challenge (called Championship), but without the expansion, it only has half of the maps, I believe.

Regarding pacman championship edition mission mode:

it's so annoying when you complete a level you get three separate dialogue boxes that you have to sequentially acknowledge.

"you completed level 23 ( easy)!"
(ok?)
"you unlocked level 23 (normal)!"
(ok?)
"you unlocked level 24 (easy)!"
(ok?)

OK ALREADY

I agree with that. Kind of annoying. But...in terms of interface everything else in-game is simple and slick. Maybe they'll fix this one. Actually I wouldn't have known that when you replay after you finish a mission that you'd play it on a different difficulty so that's good.

I agree for that. Atleast it could cycle through them quickly without me having to wait for it to pop up, confirm, pop down, next one pops up etc. Sounds nitpicky, but it's my only real complaint. Easily fixable. You can just have one pop up when you first enter that mode to tell you that normal and hard challenges exist or have a toggle to go to the harder ones.

Anyway, you are so right. This game is awesome. I plugged in spout tracks for the first time last night and I just wanted to go play his or minisquadron.

If you missed my last post, virtual d-pads can be pretty good. I'm used to them by now, bu definitely certain games and certain implementations can be way better.

Oh I found the reason for my crashes in pacman. Low memory. If I free the memory I don't get the same problems. Reproducible. Now that apple no longer allow free memory apps, a quick way is to delete all active pages in safari and close it, it actually quits the process. Handy to know.

Jet Car Stunts is so great. It's like Trackmania meets Trials. It's so much fun! :D

The OCD in me is bothered by this quite a bit though:

You mean the openfeint icon at all or the differing position?

It's a nice icon, but it does look ugly over the apps. I like to keep only the best apps on my iPhone. I like Lion's Pride a lot, but I hardly ever play it. Recently they updated it with openfeint and had the logo in the top. It made the choice easier to get rid of it.

Holy shit, Eliminate is one of the most annoying things I've ever had to experience, the controls are so floaty and weird. The game isn't even about skill, it's about whoever manages to fire their weapons first and hit the opponent :(.

I've seen the logo in all four corners of icons. I like it, though. I am far more willing to buy a game with OpenFeint than not. Agon, too, but OpenFeint is becoming the standard.

edit: PS - My OpenFeint is VALIS, ya'll should add me.

I like Open Feint more than Plus+, but I use neither with my friends and haven't befriended anyone through it for scoring purposes. More often than not it's annoying, especially that new "accomplishment" crap. Right in the middle of my game it wants to pull up this window that, while it pauses most of the time I've experienced no pauses and it just ruins the flow of the game.

No matter how many times I tell it not to ask again it does too.

And this...

Is why you should use BargainBin/PandoraBox more often...I was expecting 20 something, I can't even recall everything I bought :lol :(

Okay GAF, present me the best most awesome twin-stick shooters for the 'phone!
I like iDracula, Minigore, and Alive 4 Ever.

They're not exactly GeoWars type twin stick shooters if that's what you're looking for; but they're all fun (none have left my phone since they've been installed). iDracula and Alive 4 Ever were much more robust than Minigore, and still are. But the latest update to Minigore is great. And it's simplicity is part of it's charm.

iDracula has you shooting all manner of monsters from giant worms, to werewolves and zombies. And of course Vampires. Weapon upgrades that are not persistent (in the modes I play, maybe there are in others?) from play to play. Probably the biggest selection of weapons in these three, pistols, crossbows, grenade launchers, flame throwsers, and a couple of crazy weapons that look like they're from Dr. Frankenstein.... it has various levels to try, and objects do have collision.

Alive 4 Ever is like a Left 4 Dead rip off, top down view, multiplayer (which is fun), RPG-like leveling system for your skills, and weapon upgrades that are persistent, like L4D, it's got hand guns, rifles, grenade launchers, and sniper rifles. Collision in this game too. Sucks when you are under a tree and hit it, or if you're under a tree and a zombie dog bites you (you'll lose health before you realize you're being assaulted).

Minigore is an isometric top down shooter like iDracula, and has had the most updates of these 3 I think? And more coming. They just added skins for your player (some you ahve to pay for but most come free with kills). Santa's in it :p. Your primary weapon is still the machine-gun, but there's a grenade launcher and shotgun you can get in boxes. No other upgrades I've found (I usually shoot the boxes for their 360 degree attack. No Collision in this one. Only 1 map too. But the recent update made it go from dusk to night and these bouncing dragon things come out after you for a bit of a change of pace from the furry things).

Really I'd suggest all three. iDracula was a steal at 99 cents and Alive 4 Ever was as well. Minigore took a while to feel worth it but it's come into it's own. Not sure what their prices are now.

I love plus+ but lately with so many games getting open feint I feel like I should join in and buy some more games with it, right now my ipod defaulted me to "knightsonrush2085209523" or something :lol may have to create a profile for myself.

*edit* I loved iDracula it was one of the first twin shooter apps I had and at the time one of the best apps I owned, I need to install it again.

Hm, while iDracula currently seems to offer more, Minigore seems like it'll get a steady stream of updates with added content. Both look great though.

Any word on Jumpgate? Still waiting for it to drop and I thought it was suppose to be coming in early December.

I'm in close contact with most of the Freeverse guys, and I think they're just trying to polish the hell out of it before letting it out the door. I'll see if I can get a more concrete date, though.

Todays Appvent Calendar game is amazing. The blimp one. So simple yet sooooooooo goooooooooood.
Yeah, I actually bought it a while ago. It's got a relatively huge install, but it's soooo slick, and very pretty. I recommend it.

i can't believe some of these appvent games are free, they're so great. blimp is really wonderful so far.

Defender Chronicles is worth $20. I've put 20-40 hours in so far.

I just saw some people had added me in OpenFeint, it's not obvious at all when you get friend requests. Feel free to shoot some challenges my way!

To partially answer myself (cause I'm a sucker and bought the game + expansion already), the original championship level isn't the first one here. I've only played the 1st championship level here and the layouts (both maps and dot distribution) seem at the least tweaked quite a bit if not just changed entirely.

Also, There's an update for Auditorium that does nothing else but update EA's recent games listed in the app. It's bugging me because it won't go away after I've updated it, and it took deleting the game, re-downloading it, and re-"purchasing" my DLC for the extra Movements to show back up in the level select menu. And that erased my history of completing the first five acts, but that's no problem, I'll slide right back through those in an hour.
