Is there any way to just go and spectate random vs matchups? Or is the in-game server setup all there is and there really isn't an option to spectate?

The spectator browser doesn't show any spectate servers up.

This is as pure a gaming experience as it gets. What I mean is that it's such a basic premise, and such a simple execution yet it taps into the fundamentals of why we play games. You only get a handful of guns, other than varying spawn points you know exactly what to expect and the twitch shooting is as oldschool as it gets. Add in a few friends and I'm 15 years old again.

For a map update, I'd love to see them build a scenario at the source of the zombie apocalypse that has items akin to bioshock's tape recorders sprinkled throughout the campaign that basically tell a story on how the zombie apocalypse comes to be and the origins of various bosses. So not only do you want to make it from point A to point B, you also have to make a decision on whether or not to explore the area for information.

This is a god awful idea. If my team mates run off to find a god damned audio tape I'd kill them myself.

The one I read about (not sure if it's user or valve created) has something to do about getting to a space shuttle to escape to an orbiting space station. I WANT THAT SHIT NOW!

Zombies in space. This needs to happen. Now.

Zzoram and I were just involved in a bad ass No Mercy run. Helicopter was literally over our heads as we dropped one by one to a last minute tank/boomer barrage. It's awesome when people are screaming "REVIVE HIM!" as you see hundreds of zombies swarming over your corpse.

God this game is a rush!

(btw Zzoram, my headset is busted or I would have been talking. New one comes in Friday)

Damn, I thought someone said the game came with a mousepad for the PC version. When I saw it at Fry's in a regular DVD case, I knew that it wouldn't have it. This is the worse retail box I've ever bought. It just came with a DVD and a paper with the cd key. Oh well at least I saved a couple of bucks and don't have to download the game everytime I uninstall it. Bought 2 copies, hate you Valve!

Just to confirm, the sniper/hunting rifle is not one-shot-one-kill (apart from headshots) right?

I really wish they would include a bolt-action one-shot-one-kill rifle. The bolt-action nature of the rifle would balance it out since you can't fire it as fast.

That is a user mod that is coming out sometime.

A well made, expertly used bolt- or lever- action rifle offers a defense against the living dead that is as good if not better than the latest military hardware

So your opinion is based in reality :D

However, that guide is assuming that the zombies are of the slow variety, and only can be killed by shooting/removing the heads- It's useless for these fast zombies!

True, that's why we can't forget that L4D is strictly for entertainment purposes.

So here's a question to those who have beaten all the campaigns, which one is the best?

I've only done No Mercy (a bajillion times) and Death Toll (twice).

Did you guys complete the level after I left last night?

I can't comment on full campaigns until I replay all of them again, but as far as best finale I'll say:

Blood Harvest - The run through the corn field puts it over the top
No Mercy
Death Toll - Its the blood harvest finale with a mini-gun section minus the cornfield run.
Dead Air - A bit too easy to defend. '

And Vs. Mode No Mercy is better than Blood Harvest hands down.

The AI Director changes things up so much game to game, and the level design is so fantastic in all four levels, that the only real way I can pick my favorite one is to go by art design. And Death Toll has my favorite art out of the bunch, especially the beginning area in the woods. Just awesome.

The only thing I don't like is how each campaign is unconnected, story-wise. I'd at least like to know how they went from being rescued to going back into a dangerous situation.

I'd like to see a Halloween night themed scenario, with flickering jack o'lanterns on front porches, zombies still wearing costumes, etc. Basically, Left 4 Dead in Haddonfield.

For those of us just starting out with the game, what do you recommend:

• Play a bit with bots to get a feel for the maps?

• Or just jump right into multiplayer with real people?
