Multiplayer all the way, definitely.

So here's a question to those who have beaten all the campaigns, which one is the best?

I haven't played Death Toll yet (need to do that tomorrow), so I can't comment on that one.

But so far:

1. No Mercy: Delivers the most variety so far. Couldn't believe we made it through map 3 in VS earlier today. You go from the alleys to the gas station to the roof of endless horde to a small warehouse to the actual sewers to finally the hospital. It is just intense. The rest of the campaign of course delivers the hospital (great detail/ elevator is the best mini-finale imo), streets and the subway.

2. Dead Air: First part falls a bit off since I already ran through apartments in No Mercy. The construction side also doesn't feel different enough compared to the No Mercy parts. That said the third map is again very intense. I can remember the first time I reached the airport and Zoey said something like "we can take the air bridge" and I was like "aaah fuck no!" after I realized that I had to fight through the parkhouse. The terminal is also very good and feels like a terminal.

3. Blood Harvest: Only played it in VS so far, but it seems a bit too repetive. Forest - trains - forest - trains etc. Things like the "open the door" mini-finale also feel like last minute additions. But I probably have to finish it with a normal coop playthrough to really judge it.

From what I saw and heard from Death Toll it will probably take place 2 or tie with No Mercy.

Anyone know how the game handles the expert campaign achievements? Does it remember each chapter you finish, or do you have to do it all in one shot?

Just jump into a multi game on normal difficulty and you should be fine. The game just came out, so there are a lot of people out there who are essentially new to it. It also does a really great job of teaching you things and helping you out as you play through it, and the basics are pretty simple. Also pay attention to the hints it gives you on loading screens - some of those can be very helpful.

had a couple fantastic games with purg3 and his friend...

if anyone is looking for more to do the campaigns with, i'm always interested:

You have to finish a full campaign (eg. No Mercy) in 1 go (you started from the beginning, you didn't leave the game). You can die and stuff, and respawn, that's fine. You just have to stay in the game from it's start until finish, no matter how long that takes, to get credit for beating each campaign.

You can do the campaigns separately, but you have to do all the chapters of each campaign in 1 sitting.

I need advice quick. According to System Requirements Lab I can only run Left 4 Dead on minimum settings. I have a Nvidia 6600GT, an AMD 3200 (2.02GHz 64-bit cpu), 2GB of RAM and enough hdd space. Is it worth playing on minimum requirements (decent fps, etc) or should I wait till I upgrade my computer next year?

system requirements lab is often full of shit

i was informed that i did not meet the recommended requirements, yet i played the demo on maxed out settings just fine

yougamers.com is a bit more balanced

During the finale of Blood Harvest, does anyone else jump onto the railings by the haystacks next to the house? none of the small zombies can get you there, and the tank will get stuck directly under you and run in circles 80% of the time. you can only really get hurt by smokers and tank rocks.

Only tried on advanced, though.

Damn I love this game so much. Its a great game now but what really gets me excited is the almost endless amounts of content the Mod community can potentially come up with. Wow great fucking job Valve bravo :D :D

Wish that worked for me on Dead Air! I was there the whole time. But hey, it's fun to do it again anyways~!

Ok, I'll try that and see how well I do.

[edit] I got about the same result or so, about 1 notch and a half beyond the minimum requirements. What should I do?

If you disconnect and rejoin, or go IDLE, I think that makes it not count. Counting IDLE would be cheap, since you could let the AI beat it for you.

It'll run fine at 1024x768@4xAA. Pick up a CRT from Goodwill and you won't even notice the difference.

I was there the whole time, no errors or anything. I got Tankbusters earlier, which was really screwy, since he DID damage a survivor some.

Weird.

I got Tankbusters too, no idea how.

Welcome, brother.

Why thank you.

The game really shines when the tension is dragged out and you actually feel like you have a real destination. It's amazing what that sustained pressure can do to actually bond you and your teammates. I look forward to playing this with lots of good people around here.

Best of all, modding seems to be an easy affair. I'm very much looking forward to the customs.

I just think about how different TF2 is now to what it was a year ago and what that means for L4D and I start to get really excited.

It means we'll have two radically different yet ever expanding FPS that will be rich in content for a while. Good times...in video game land anyhow. :lol

I love how the campaigns are independent of each other. Works great for a join-and-drop co-op game.

Definitely play with real people.

Me too but I kind of wish they all had their own intro video!

First one's pretty cool. O:

I mean, naturally, it don't bother me none once I get in the game. But you know!

Except if you want those stupid achievements... like me. :P

Not usually an achievement whore, I guess I'm just bitter that I was in the damn helicopter and because of some dingus on the other side of the roof, a Tank just came up and start smashing the crap out of me.

Just to confirm, the sniper/hunting rifle is not one-shot-one-kill (apart from headshots) right?

I really wish they would include a bolt-action one-shot-one-kill rifle. The bolt-action nature of the rifle would balance it out since you can't fire it as fast.
On Advanced, the hunting rifle seems to dish out instant kills most of the time. Certain parts of the body (feet and hands maybe) aren't 1-shottable.

The hunting rifle is one-shot one-kill. I always just aim for center-mass and only play on Expert.

They take a second or two to fall over, though.

Don't worry, PC side will more than make up for any potential lackluster 360 sales.

I don't know. There are a lot of cheap fuckers on the PC side. I have a friend who totally loves it but is still a "maybe" for buying it, because he thinks it's a lot of money.

I just hope that the really high Xbox Live demo numbers mean a good deal of people will buy the game. The end bulletpoints were a bit misleading. There are no new weapons, and only 18.5 new levels in the full game.

Jesus, playing this game with two shitty players who don't cooperate and kinda suck make this game stupidly freakishly frustratingly hard. We were playing on advanced, and they just were TERRIBLE. UGH. It makes it much, much harder. Oy.

I heard in this thread that L4D had Lich King-length lines at someone's Gamestop. I went to Circuit City to buy the PC version on sale but they sold out in less than one day. Best Buy's website has it backordered.

nyone else notice that people seem to be taking this game way too seriously and a lot of people (a lot of times, the SAME people) are just complete idiots?

Just came from an expert game where i spend most of the first level of death toll getting friendly fire from my teammates every other shot seemingly accidentally although im leading the pack while crouching. Enjoying the game for what it is, I decide to stick it out even though its obvious my teammates are idiots. I get snagged by a smoker and my idiot teammates don't seem to be able to hit his fucking tongue so i can help them take down a few straggling zombies they are struggling with for some reason. After dealing with even more friendly fire, i have about 50 health while the two remaining of my teammates have about 10 or less TEMPORARY health, and we are near enough to the safehouse that bill mentions it to everyone. So, since there are a lot of zombies and likely a boss lurking around, doing the probably best thing i could do in the situation (considering its expert), I run towards the safehouse to try and close the door. There's a hunter waiting in there with about 10 of his infected friends. of course, my teammates are dead at this point, even though i had died from the smoker earlier and they either used my health pack or left it on the ground, so i'm nearly helpless unless i can get that hunter. Well, i miss him while he's jumping so i die in the safehouse.

So that's what happened. I happen to like playing the game so i stick with my clueless random teammates, but wait a second...one of the guys is ranting about how an AI player would be better than me and that i'm screwing the team apparently by "running ahead all of the time" and forgetting that no matter what i was doing, they were playing like ass the entire time, and even though i died once from friendly fire and once while they watched me die by a smoker, I just so happened to be the last one alive and almost saved our asses at the end despite their ignorance.

I'm even willing to live with obviously misdirected hostility towards easily the best player in the group, but then they start a vote to kick me. So, I get kicked.

Anyway enough of the rant, like I mentioned at the beginning, anyone else encountered complete douchebaggery like this?

That sounds like it could have been a griefer team. Get a team of 3 together, invite in a random, pretend to be incompetent and see how the guy reacts.

Stop playing with randoms, start playing with GAFfers? Unless you're playing 360 version. I can't vouch for 360 players. Only Stanley Steamers. We're awesome.

I have both 360 and pc, guess it was a bad idea to play the 360 for a round or two so i could do wireless while laying down on my bed for awhile.

It's funny, now that I think about it it could have definitely been a griefer team. Didn't feel like plugging in my mic, and not to mention I wouldnt have been reacting even if I did so they shouldn't have gotten any pleasure out of pissing me off. It's sad because douchebaggery seems to be happening a lot more since the game's been released than when the demo was available. I hope y'all GAFfers don't take it as seriously as some of the guys i been playing with.

If they weren't griefers, I find it really sad that I played with idiots who only saw me dying at the safehouse (by a HUNTER,, while LAST ONE LEFT, on EXPERT) as some sort of display of incompetence and took it out on me by kicking me.

I've never played with you, but I'd like to apologize to anyone that plays with me. I tend to get a little serious, but I'm never actually angry if things go wrong (well, unless it's directed at the A.I. Director). I just get into it a little too much. :(

And as someone said, stick to the GAF crew. There's a sizable community on the 360 and PC side.

Versus is ridiculously good.

^ See that blue outline? That's my teammate falling to his death because of a particularly vicious Tank punch.

Ouch.

If you've seen the maps for versus, you know why only two of the campaigns are versus enabled, there's a series of extra pathways and remodeled areas for the infected.

I was going to buy it at CC but the site says out of stock for my location, I don't trust them though. I went to Fry's and I saw about 30 copies of the PC still. I don't think L4D is doing as good as we expect. Hope I'm wrong though, awesome game. Anyone else know how well it sold at your stores?

I was just playing with some non-GAF friends, and we were at the airport finale.... oh man the ending was so epic.

We're boarding the rescue vehicle, and I've got 5 health, and am at the back of the pack as the ramp is coming down and a hunter gets me. One of my team mates, wanting to not leave me behind, rescues me. We're being swarmed as hell, and that team mate goes down right in front of me... but is inside the vehicle. I start running up the ramp towards him, shooting infected out of the way, and accidentally friendly fire a second team mate, incapacitating him, also in the vehicle. Before they can be resuscitated, the map ends in victory for us. They were both listed as deceased though.

Also, in the little ending scripted part as the vehicle is leaving, a tank was on fire, and looked pissed.
