The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

I actually found Blood Harvest to have the easiest first 4 levels though. I went through it multiple times without ever failing any particular segment, while every other campaign usually hits a snag on the third or fourth level.

I spent a ton of time on the BH finale, but it actually isn't that hard if everyone is in the barn. That seemed to be the best spot by far, since all the special infected climb the ladder and stand still for a second giving ample time to kill them. Then the Tank will either go in through the side area or up the ladder, which is easy to see and unload on him. Then just have everyone walk out of the front hole and get him to follow, then climb back up.

I agree.

You can easily see and control infected in every finale except Blood Harvest. On No Mercy you have plenty of hiding spots (The ledge behind the safe room, the few doors that you can blast in and hide in) that will give you space between you and infected, on Death Toll you have the rock glitch, and on Dead Air you have the dirt lot behind on the airplane.

On Blood Harvest though, you have closets without very much room to see out. It is fine during the horde waves, but during the tank waves it's a mess. Special infected during the tank waves can screw you too.

Blood Harvest also seems to be a bitch about giving you molotovs or pipe bombs for the finale.

There's actually a glitch to that level that you can use if you find it too hard.

All you need to do is lure the Tank outside, then run back inside and up to the second floor window in the Play Room across from the second floor bathroom. When he tries to climb up the roof scaffolding into the window, he gets stuck, and from then on all you need to do is light him on fire and hide inside.

Every finale in this game has a terrible broken spot that makes it too goddamn easy to beat.

No Mercy: this campaign has the spawn closet by the radio, and two rooms on the right side of the map you can enter and just turtle in and will hardly ever get damaged. You don't even have to leave the room for the tank battle, you just have to wait 'till he gets in and he'll die before getting to take anyone out.

Death Toll: The fucking rock glitch. You can also use the bathroom, but that's nowhere near as cheap.

Dead air: Again, just get 4 guys in the spawn closet and you never have to leave it until you're ready for takeoff. Just shoot the shit out of the Tank when he arrives, and he should die before killing anyone, even on expert

Blood Harvest: This campaign is probably hardest due to the fact that getting to the finale is a bitch in itself. Once you call in for your rescue vehicle though, the finale becomes a little to easy. You don't even have to be cheap to beat this one easily - there are so many places that you can run in and out of, the Tank is pretty much useless.

I want Valve to do something with the maps to make it so that crouching in one corner with four auto-shotties isn't always the best tactic against everything in the game.

I don't remember who I was playing with, but it took SEVERAL tries of hiding in the spawn closet on Dead Air to beat it on expert, and we still lost one or two guys.

And you must play L4D waaaay too much if you think it's too easy on expert. :P Scarlet plays more than anyone I know, and she was on my team when a couple of us were trying to beat Blood Harvest expert. Even with her advice it took like four or five tries to beat the finale. (part of the problem was only one or two of us were using mics and we kept being confused as to where we were supposed to go...at one point she was like "go left" and I'm like "k", and fall out the window to the ground. :D)

Yes, I know of that glitch, but he doesn't always get stuck for me. In fact, he doesn't get stuck at all for me anymore.

I've beat Blood Harvest, but not with all 4 survivors.

I'm not say the entire campaigns are easy; I'm saying the finales are. Dead air 3 can be a nightmare if you're playing with a bad group.

and yes, I do play this game way too much. That's why I am a fucking zombie apocalypse survival expert.

Look at her right hand for a second. Then look down to see where her left hand is gripping.

She has two right hands.

Francis: "I hate glitches."

I'd never resort to any of the broken spots or tactics listed in this thread. Why would you like to "win" that way unless you were really desperate?

I've seen this since release, and once you see it, you can't unsee it.

yep, But it was Versus and I was dead watching a fellow Infected ride the elevator, he just randomly fell down and died as Boomer.

As the survivors? No, but that happens a lot when I'm an Infected silhouette.

The most annoying one was when something like that happened, and I fell down and died...only to respawn ALL the way at the final survivor saferoom. By the time I ran all the way forward the survivors were well out of the elevator.

Also, I believe I've verified on multiple occasions that if you vomit on survivors in/coming out of the elevator, there will be NO horde.

Survivors can't jump in the elevator either. Some strange mechanics are going on somewhere...

It at least happens when you throw a physics object (oxygen tank, molotov are at least available) at a survivor/infected while they are riding the elevator.

Ah that explains it, I was a surviovor and I had an oxygen tank (just in case of the blocked exit) and i threw it down to heal. When that happen two players justed fell through the floor

Holy crap I somehow managed to get Lamb 2 Slaughter. I don't know when or how but I did. I just looked at my list today and noticed it was unlocked. :lol All I need left is Untouchables, Zombie Genocidist, Big Drag (any tips?), and All 4 Dead. Anyone want to help me with Untouchables?

Edit: PC btw.

You always want to take advantage of the survivors being distracted and pre-occupied. I've found that Blood Harvest, especially in part 4 right around the last house or the warehouse, is good for this as there's generally a lot of vegetation and it's easy to flank the survivors from the right side where there are tree-lined hills.

Wow.

I've played with bad players, good players, etc.

But I played with a sort of "Left 4 Dead" elitist type tonight. Name was NyteFire.

He bitched everrrrrrrry round how my team used melee a bit (who doesn't when everyone gets barfed on?), and said we were just a bad team that used melee storm, even though he did it just as much (but of course, he denied it). We were down by a bit for most of the game, but came back and won it in the finale. He even quit before we finished. :lol

It was pretty amusing!

How does something like that get into a final poster? Or done at all? Amazing.

I was watching Planet Terror today and I thought to myself...You know...Left 4 Dead doesn't have any moving levels. I'd love to see a segment where all of the survivors have to fend off zombies while riding in the back of a truck or something like that. Even if it ended up being pretty easy, it would definitely be fun just for one chapter of one campaign.

Just press e.

Also the horde will not come until the survivors leave the elevator. Kind of like a mini safe room.

Ugh, him. I browse the Gamefaqs L4D board once in a while just to see if something interesting has cropped up, and it's impossible to read for long before running into some ongoing flame war involving the guy. A master troll, avoid at all costs.

Cool thing about the "Press E to re-spawn" thing is, if your low on health it will refill your health bar when you re-spawn.

I learned something today!

And one of my teammates learned about pouncing through the door as a hunter.

And even PillowKnight didn't know about the hunter-doing-more-damage-from-heights pounce thing.

Nabs said:
how do you pounce through doors?

As far as I know, it only works on doors that have already been damaged one or two swipes (not sure). If it's a damaged door, you can just aim at a survivor beyond the door, and you'll knock the door down and land on the survivor.

Do you guys have any good tips for Blood Harvest's finale on expert? I'm playing with 2 of my friends, so it's 3 players and one computer, 360 version.

We've found a good spot in the barn upstairs, right corner (behind the haystack where the bullets are), but when there are no molotovs around, god damn the tank is hard to get down. We barely get one or two gasolines, but using them needs a bit of luck in the heat of running away from the tank.

Also, is there a way to avoid the horde in the corn field? I've noticed that once the crows fly away, the horde comes and we haven't found a way how to go around this.

Just run to the tractor, and jump onto its hood, crouch there, and everyone should make it pretty easy, even on expert. Only problem is if one gets dragged away by a smoker, but its pretty easy shooting him dead from the tractor.

anyone else have problem with their adsl modem resetting/rebooting because of this game?

Hopefully I wont get banned for quoting myself :(

However noeone has helped me yet, and the problem is getting worse.
I _cannot_ start a lobby by myself, the modem will either loose internet connection, or turn it self off.
To top it off, this have started happening when joining games in process as well.

Needless to say, I will never get zombicidial maniac achiviment if this aint fixed.

Please help GAF!

I think the gun was lower at first, and then they decided to fix it so the pistol was near eye level.
But rather than redraw it, they decided to photoshop it

you can only do it once, though. If the second player loses his turn, the A.I fully takes over the tank and it's gonna suck. And yeah, Tanking is hard once the survivors have their hands on tier 2 weapons. You can't just rush in and start punching every like you do if they've only got tier 1 weapons, you're gonna have to rely on your entire team to help you separate the survivors so you have the chance to incapacitate one of 'em.
However if you've got griefers that stay in a position impossible for infected to climb on, the AI tank will be able to make it. ie. No Mercy finale, 2 people staying in the safe room.

I love how L4D has turned us all into killing machines. None of the campaigns finale's give me much trouble anymore as you said. Yea there are sections which can be a pain, especially if people aren't playing smart but playing with gaffers solely like i do usually has that covered. FF, going back to save someone and being stuck in a horde (which tends to happen if you go back for people) are the only things I worry about.

You're not thinking or clicking fast enuf!

So after playing the final round of vs no mercy with Pillowknight, Zero and a few others, there was a glitch where it started new rounds on the roof (even though we should've returned to lobby )It's nearly impossible to get back on the roof the constant stream of zombies climbing down the ladder. :lol

Meh, just played a frustrating Vs. match where one of my teammates locked himself in the saferoom, wouldn't come out to save a teammate that was hanging off a ledge right next to him, and kept closing the door as people tried to open it

On last level of No Mercy all 4 get under the ramp leading to the helipad.

Only way in is through the front. So zombies can't swarm you

You can still get puked on. But just keep firing forward

A smoker can still grab you from all sides but you can't get dragged out unless from the front and one second and the smoker is dead. Same for Hunter.

Use pistols and save major ammo for tank. Guy(s) in the front take the brunt of the tanks while everyone unloads on it.

Rinse and repeat and win.

I experienced a Christmas miracle today.

I met three randoms in a versus lobby, and they turned out to be very good communicators. They were very good at the game too. We proceed to then destroy a team in the first two levels of Blood Harvest, and they ragequit after being wiped in the alarm room in the warehouse. I invite a few people, Blizzard among them.

We make it in 3, and I was sorta accused of hacking or exploiting or something, on account of the fact that I absolutely nailed a few boomers and hunters/smokers through walls (The reason why, of course, is that I caught sight of them when they clipped through thin walls or saw them through cracks).

We wipe the enemy team in 4, while we all make it on the same level (Skipping the barn and the factory is crucial, you don't need to go in there, and you'll save a lot of time and damage by avoiding those buildings).

Autobalance steals one of our guys in the finale, but we soldier on. Our smoker kills one of their men after three of them jumped down into the cornfield. The remaining three take damage in the field and set up shop in the farmhouse's kitchen. Our first

When our turn came, we went with the kitchen. Using my superhearing or some shit I shot a few boomers through walls as they ran into the living room, ready to burst into the kitchen. We held off the Tanks well, and regrouped at the front door. As the truck came out, we were pounced and grabbed by the smoker, but we fought them all off. All four of us got onto the truck alive.

This. Not to mention it's completely unsportsmanlike, seeing as Tanks get stuck under there and the survivors can literally suffer no damage there.

The closets, while unbalanced at least give the Infected a chance.
