The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

most of my voice binds are on non-action keys now since i saw those SM servers which kick you for vocalize spamming. except for E, which is bound to Bill insulting Francis. also another thing i like to do is get those voice commands which make someone else say something, then either rush ahead or hide in a closet and spam them, confusing the hell out of the other player as they start spamming the response :)

Yawn to you. But luckily we never play each other anyways.

And I know your standard reply to any argument tends to be you're right because you play to have fun (and anyone who disagrees is too serious), but having some character constantly screaming in my headphones really does give me a headache. And headache's aren't fun to me.

I'm just yawning 'cause I'm tired, dude. Dunno what your problem is.

I had no idea so many of you bound phrases to attack keys. Ever since Bulleta went on her tirade against them, I've noticed only one player really abusing them. And, damn, it's enough to give a person a headache.

Yeah, it can be quite bothersome to players so I don't make a habit of it. Some games they're quite fun to use because you get an immediate response from other characters (which as aforementioned) might confuse some people, but I understand where you're coming from.

Played the third campaign few minutes ago and right when the plane landed there where tanks spawning without stopping. After one died another one appeared immediately. WTF?

Someone in control of the server must've either been messing with you or had some weird settings.

I saw a hunter trying to kill a witch for 3 minutes on the 360 version yesterday, first time I've seen special infected go at each other.

Zoey ran by a wall that had "God is dead" and said "omg the zombies killed god!" or something to that effect. LOL.

No I'm not, I know my framerates, it's not a completely consistent 60, but the framerate has definitely been upped since it came out.
I play it on both systems. On the PC I get a consistent 45 frames per second. The Xbox is much lower.

The only thing has changed on the Xbox since launch was a small patch to block people from spawning multiple Infected by console commands or something.

so in versus when it says ________ will become the tank twice i've hit x and twice I became the tank when it wasn't my name.

old news?

I want the 360 patch so bad. I was playing against a team that just kept melee spamming the whole map, I think I got one pounce the whole entire match.

I just picked this up from Steam and it's pretty cool - still learning the game though.

Quick question: any reason not to turn the flashlight off? Do the zombies react to light sources at all? And does the battery die off if it's kept on (like Fear 2)?

Zombies don't react to you as quick. If the other players have their flashlights on, they will go for them as a priority.

Flashlights startle the witch infected, and there are plenty of areas that are too dark without your flashlight on also. No battery-related mechanics though.

Yeah, the only reason to turn it off is when there's a witch nearby. The regular infected don't react to it at all.

Aside from startling the Witch less fast, having your flashlight off when standing still in Versus makes your outline invisible for the Infected players.

o_o I... didn't know that.
I hate it when human players do that, the outline fades and you're suddenly filled with uncertainty.

Fun to do on when you're human, though, I can just imagine the Infected players out there getting all cautious :lol

For reals? Why did no one ever tell me this?
This is serious news.

First tragedy, then farce.
Do we know if they are going to allow user created maps on the PC anytime soon?

Also, I leave games if some asshole starts spamming the verbal commands.

SDK comes out in Spring along with the DLC.

In addition, for PC gamers and aspiring developers, the first Left 4 Dead release for the Source Software Development Kit (Source SDK) will allow the creation of custom Left 4 Dead campaigns that will be discoverable via L4D's matchmaking system. The SDK update is also due for release this spring, and is free of charge to all owners of L4D on the PC.

Well they "allow" them right now and there are some decent maps out there. You can do pretty much anything without the real SDK but apparently it takes more effort so most map makers are just waiting for it.

It's not actually true though, just standing still or crouch moving is enough
As long as you're not doing any of the following, you will be invisible to the infected:

1) Running
2) Firing your weapons
3) Taking damage
4) Talking into the mic (Having the "..." icon visible above your icon)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

360 brah.

There's no way MS will be able to charge more than $10 for the DLC IMO, so factor that into the cost of what you can get the game for now. I'd be surprised if the Special Edition was released for as little as $40, but you never know.

Also, Spring in Valve time means May/June.

Then yeah, wait until the survival pack or whatever it's called come out.
Because other wise you'll probably have to pay for the new content separate.

Also, you should just get it for PC.

How much does 360 L4D run nowadays?

Every time I play "Death Toll" on same-screen co-op, I finish a chapter and it get to the "Did the most damage to the tank" menu and freezes on me. Anyone else have this problem? (360, btw)

I'd get it for the PC if I could, but my computer can't actually run anything. Seriously, it grinds to a halt with msn, microsoft word and firefox running at the same time. I once tried to test how well my computer could run The Last Remnant demo just for kicks and while I was installing it the installation box just disappeared as if my computer was telling me 'dont bother'. Thats how shitty my computer is.

Lol, if you can't do homework and shit, shouldn't you get a new computer?
You can get a nice used one on craigslist. I've gotten my last two there. Such great deals.
Seriously man, how long is that hunk of junk going to last you? Time for an upgrade.

I sneak up on Boomers that are waiting around corners/underneath spots or get guys that try to sneak up from behind when I don't use the flashlight. One guy called me a hacker for doing that. :/

Does this apply to the Tank as well? Or just the Boomer/Hunter/Smoker? Because I just tried it against a Tank (standing still with my flashlight off) and I got punched in the face :D

tanks are much, much more alert which is why I try to shut off my flashlight until someone else gets the tank's attention when I hear/read the closed captions saying that one's around.

OMG HAX!

No wonder I thought the 360 was running L4D at 60FPS... The Motionflow frame interpolation thing on my TV got turned on.. I just threw in Prince of Persia and it was 60FPS too and I was all like WTF.

I recently got 12 months of live this week, along with this game and I'm enjoying it. Initially I didn't like the demo but that because it was with bots. it's much better with people.

I think it's safe to say that the game is absolute shit if you don't have the ability to play it online. Of course it's better with people - that's the entire point of the game.

You're still visible if they are looking at you, it's just your green outline fades. So if you were trying to pull a T-rex maneuver on a Tank...well that explains why you got punched in the face.
