Yeah, the NM3 door was fixed quite a while ago. The autoshotgun was nerfed against the tank (at least in versus mode), but it still does tons of damage, at least to regular zombies or special zombies.

The only time I've seen an insta-kill from a Smoker was after the patch came out on PC, so who knows if they were really 'fixed' in either version.

Great news about the 360 patch!

General L4D question.....what are the advantages of using the hunting rifle? I've tried using it, and besides its huge damage, I don't see the point, esp in Versus, where the zombies/specials come at you super quick.

What about the one at the start of BH5? That one is still there on the PC, so I doubt it was included in this patch for 360.

A lot of people say it works well at shooting through lots of zombies with 1 shot, but I've never noticed it do that. It is good for freeing a survivor that is pounced or strangled by a Hunter or Smoker if they are far away, but I'd rather use double pistols than it. The sniper rifle is the "Dan Hibiki" weapon of this game, imo.

I disagree. The stopping power of the hunting rifle isn't something to be trifled with. It can down most standard zombies in a single hit, has fantastic range, a good rate of fire, and quick reload time, and a sizable clip. I've also heard that it can shoot through walls. When I'm playing the PC version, it's my weapon of choice and is good for every situation except for fighting the tank. For some reason, it really sucks for that. In my mind, it's a good level weapon, but should probably be swapped when you reach the finale.

Edit: Finally beat Dead Air on 360 tonight. As I haven't been lurking this thread as much as I used to, I didn't realize there was a little closet in the back of the map. Getting everyone in there made the map absolute cake, as the zombies all ended up coming from one location, and the Tank always had a huge distance to travel to get to us. We did lose our Zoey to the last Tank, and I almost feel on the rush to the plane, but all in all, much easier than fighting out in the open.
 
Every gun in the game can shoot through walls, and everyone of those benefits you listed for the HR are done better by the autoshotgun, except for the range. In versus, you would want a gun that you can blast away with while running, and that's not just an option with the Hunting Rifle.

edit: HR is ok during campaigns. AI be dumb.

-_-. That's my main weapon. It's great to take zombies off people's back with good accuracy, and a life saver against smokers. One of the best things is that while I kill just as much as anyone else, I never run out of bullets with this weapon.

The Assault Rifle and Shotgun/Auto Shotgun stop normal zombies easily, too. On virtualdub, here's the reload times I saw (non-empty clip):

Single pistol: 2.033 seconds
SMG: 2.433 seconds
Dual pistol: 2.700 seconds
Assault Rifle: 1.767 seconds
Hunting Rifle: 3.167 seconds

Not including the Shotgun/Auto-Shotgun due to their ability to fire without needing a full clip to do so. Every weapon has a good rate of fire aside from the single pistol and tier 1 shotty.

It has the smallest clip of the 'needs to have a full clip to fire' weapons, tied with the single pistol at 15. Assault Rifle, Shotgun, and Auto-Shotgun shoot through walls as well. I don't know if the SMG does. It also is the absolute worst weapon to use while moving around compared to any other; you have to be still to shoot it with any effectiveness.

I try to use it at random times, but I just don't see it as a good weapon. It is "the Dan" if I am using it in VS. Good players with it are really cool, though.

Hey, that's cool. Good snipers are really awesome. I have ammo problems with every gun aside from the Shotgun/Auto-Shotgun. :(
 
It's been a while since I played versus. I've been running a few buds through the campaign to get them ready, so tactics must have changes since I last played. I normally didn't end up with a team that run full out the whole time. Most of them would end up rushing to a choke point, at which the rifle would be useful again.

But, if you're just sprinting through, I can see it being useless.

My least favorite weapon are the shotguns. I blast through ammo and the slow reload time kills me.

Unfortunately (for balance in my opinion) only the ammo thing is really an issue, and you usually find ammo around. You can spam the autoshotgun like a madman, killing the other versus team through walls, as long as you remember to pause briefly to reload every few shots when you're running/moving/pausing/not spamming. It's not slow to reload unless your clip is empty.

I love NM4 with the autoshotty as you can really spam the autoshotty and kill pretty much anything with ease as everything is close quarters, plus there is always ammo at the elevator which isnt too far from the start. I find i get a huge number of zombie kills compared to other guns in that level.

the shotgun is by far the best for both indoor situations, tanks, witches and finales. I only ever use the assault rifle on like no mercy 2, where my teammates seem to always get smokered from the roof no matter what i do

So was the door near the lift fixed in the 360 version? Anyone check yet? My 360 is currently being repaired.

I heard the patch that came out today did nothing at all. Basically Valve fails with patching consoles...

Players can no longer grab ladders while flying through the air after a Tank punch

Versus Changes
Added HUD elements to show status of other infected players

Hunter
Easier to pounce a Survivor who is meleeing

Smoker now has to be killed or the tongue destroyed for the tongue to break
Survivors cannot bash someone off the tongue until the Survivor being pulled is paralyzed or hanging
Tongue attacks that fail to paralyze or hang a Survivor will use the shorter ability delay timer
Fixed cases where the ability timer was not using the correct time
Fixed case where you could point at a Survivor but not register a tongue hit
Fixed Smoker tongue not targeting and landing properly through PZ ghosts
Smoker tongue does damage every second while dragging paralyzed Survivors

Tank
Bashable objects now appear with a red glow
Tanks hitting a car with an alarm disables the alarm permanently
Tank frustration timer is only reset by hitting Survivors with rocks or fists
Reduced autoshotgun damage against Tanks

Witch
Witch spawns at the same % through the map for both teams
Avoids spawning within a certain % of the tank
Fixed an exploit where the Witch could be woken up and tricked into attacking Survivors

Doesn't seem to mention the fixing of the NM3 door or crates under the NM5 ramp, but they could be included with the probable crescendo skips in the "Fixed several map exploits" thing. Doesn't seem to mention they removed infected being able to move the forklift stuff either. But now you guys have the same Tank/Witch stuff and more blah Hunter/Smoker that seemed cool at first but now I can't stand in vs.

Either way if its fixed or not it wont sway me from the greatest game ever :)


My biggest gripe is the breakable door near the lift on NM3? Shit bothers me worse than blocking entrances for some reason.

It's not.


I had a friend who said there were crates under the ramp in NM5, but now when I played it, they weren't there...

Ugh, I'll never play random Vs. again.

I saved my teammates asses several times, healed them with my own med packs, never wasted an opportunity as infected, and out of the blue on NM3 someone says "I wanna be smoker" and calls a vote to kick me since I inhabited that class. Even though we were all working well together, congratulating each other for good performance every round before, they click F1 before I can blink.

I'd understand if it was a clan trying to get a fourth friend to join, but these were random strangers even to each other, appeasing some dickwad who wants to pull people off the roof?

I don't get it.

The hunting rifle is good for taking out floods of zombies that pour in from doorways and down hallways. My main reason for using it is for long distance rescues. More often than now, we have one guy that falls behind the group and get huntered or smokered. Because they become of statonary target, it's simply a matter of getting into a line of sight and just sighting them up.

Me and my friends went through all the possible glitches we knew yesterday and all had been fixed, including the door and alamo ramp.

Try clearing your cache and downloading the patch again if you're still running on the older version.

Holy shit at the smoker drag damage!

The sniper rifle's my favorite weapon in the game, pretty much. Unfortunately, with some teams I play with, I get told to use a different weapon because the other ones are better. My favorite is trying to be good with the sniper, though, since I think it's fun. I just wish it was better in comparison.

So I had fraps open and on Dead Air 4, there was a Witch crying on top of the metal detectors. Pop is almost dead, so he goes up to crown her, and he gets Huntered. I shoot the Hunter off him, but I hit the Witch too. So I'm prepared to die now, but we manage to shoot her and I kill her when she's right in my face. I go "damn that woulda looked cool had I recorded it", and then we end up dying. I then decided to record from the van crescendo onward, in case anything cool happens..these 4 short clips together were all 4 tries in a row in the same room. Everyone does something pretty :lol. It's about a minute and a half long of agonizing group death.

What would have been really funny is had I gotten Dead Air 3; I was grey, I think Pop was too, and a Tank showed up right before the Sky Bridge. Tank goes after Fallout, so Pop and I book it to the safe room. Inside the safe room, a Hunter is right inside, and he slashes me which kills me, then Pop walks in and gets slashed too and we had to do the level again (I don't know what happened to Goreo).

One highlight from the clip is a possible "backfire" or "you're doing it wrong"-style .gif:

It was too awesome! DUCK AND COVER!, the molly twirling in place, and then the hot death. Fallout's was good audio-wise; Pop gets away, then laughs like .01 sec before the fire hits and incaps him. I used my pills .01 sec before I got incapped, that was pretty craptastic/fail-ish on my part. It was all worth it for Fallout to get his first Expert win, though.

I made a third wheel awhile ago for when I hear a Tank/Witch/Boomer and other stuff, seems to work out okay.

That was pretty good, yeah. :lol I've never seen it say 'player A saved player A' before, either. It really said Fallout saved Fallout! :lol Pretty high price, though.

Wasn't me, as I remember pretty clearly that I never even pressed the 'use' button during that part. Gore has no one to blame but himself.
