Is there a bug on the 360 where you do not get credit for completing a campaign on expert? My wife and I went through Death Toll last night and we both did not get credit on our What are you trying to Prove achievement. Neither of us went idle at any point of the game.

Anyone else getting 100% CPU load when playing this game?

Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.53GHZ here and as soon as a map finishes loading it's at 100% usage. It's not really hurting gameplay... 60 frames most of the time and it obviously dips a bit when getting to the heavier stuff. No overheating either. Just a little worrying to see.

I just loaded up the game and got 90-100% load as soon as gameplay began. This was with a stock E8400. The Source engine loves it some CPU, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Actually tested on some other source games (HL2 and it's episodes, TF2, Vampire Bloodlines and Sin Episode 1). All of them either have normal CPU usage or don't even touch the second core. It's not really effecting gameplay so I guess I won't worry about it.

All I can tell you is that it'll only award you the achievement if you completed a campaign on Expert from start to finish in one go. Which you probably did, I reckon.

grrrr

Did your character actually make it into the helicopter? I have been reading that with the new patch, if your character does not survive, you will not get any credit for beating the campaign.

No I didn't so maybe you're right. I beat blood harvest on expert after with me having got into the truck and it added. So I guess I have to do no mercy again and then I can just play expert for fun.

I hear ya. The one time I couldn't blame them because it was super late and we had been on bh5 for about an hour. All the other times though.. those bastards!

How would this laptop handle L4D?
It would be terrible, because it has integrated graphics. You need something with a dedicated gpu to handle L4D. Of course, laptops with those cost more than the $580 for that one in your link.

Valve still has some killer exploits to patch up.

This happened on the last map of Blood Harvest I believe. Right at the beginning after the survivors exit the train a smoker standing in the corner, left from the tracks can immediately pull a survivor. When the survivors shoot the smoker the captured survivor will automatically fall down the cliff, killing him obviously.

So after over 6 hours of playing yesterday, restarting from the beginning a billion times over and over again, my friends and I completed a chapter / movie whatever it's called without getting hit by a special zombie. We all jumped into the plane and waited for our achievement to unlock. But it didn't.

Is there any known bugs with this achievement? The only thing I can think of was that we were changing the difficulty at the start to kill Louis (CPU controlled character) then changing it back to easy. I wouldn't think that would affect it though...

I know Red Scarlet once had ALL OF HER TEAMMATES get it when she survived, but she herself didn't. Also, you might have gotten hit by a stealth jumpslashing hunter, and didn't notice. Or it could just be bugged. Yay. :(

It probably does.

Try getting 3 other friends together and try it again. Me and Red Scarlet literally spent over 50 hours trying to get that shitty achievement. Also, Blood Harvest is by the far the easiest map to get it on.

Here are some general tips:

1) Don't set the tank on fire. With four capable players, it should be pretty easy just shooting him dead before he does any real damage; lighting him up will just make him more dangerous as Tanks engulfed in flames run faster

2) Blood Harvest 2 crescendo makes the map a cake walk. Once you open the door, just bolt out of the room and run for the safe room. Don't be afraid to throw a molotov at your feet in case you're getting slapped to shit by zombies while trying to run for it.

3) You have exactly one second to get hunters off your teammates before they do damage. That's all the time in the world assuming you all know how to stick together.

4) Best place to hold out during the BH finale is the second floor of the barn. It literally renders all special infected absolutely useless. Even the tank should die before getting up there if you all have autoshotguns.

Thanks for the tips. I'll pass them on to the strategists of the team (I just tag along and shoot stuff).

Thats extremely easy to stop. Atleast when i play on the 360 version most know of it.

Really if you already know of it then its not really possible for the smoker to get you since you leave the safehouse and are instantly looking over there and shooting = Problem solved and never to be pulled ever again.

Same can be said for the end of No mercy and the roof pulls somewhat since that is more random and theres a few spots up there for it. Really depends on the tactics of the other infected.

Not to mention, if the survivors all run out together on the blood harvest finale, they can all "see" the spawn spot, and the smoker won't even be able to spawn unless the infected play is clicking the button frantically.

no mercy expert continues to elude me. Another attempt, another group that falls apart on nm5.

Tomorrow night. It's gonna happen.

Bump!

Acidote asking for GAF assistance!

I'm trying to get the developer console as I did with other Valve games.

First of all I went to the keys configurations and set the "Enable developer console" on Enabled. After that I opened the config.cfg in the L4D folder and added bind "F12" "toggleconsole". I've tryed with other keys too just in case F12 was giving problems. As with other Valve games, I can't use the ~ key as I have a spanish keyboard and it seems to be different.

I've also tryed adding -console to a shortcut and it ain't work either. Any suggestions?

Thanks and sorry for my english.

I could have sworn you can assign the button within the in-game button config list, but I could be mistaken. Failing that, try something like "bind x toggleconsole", with no quotes on anything.

Hmm... Can anyone confirm?

If this is true we'll have to find a worthy fourth player...

when it first came out a team and i were doing this and we were pretty positive that we had gotten it on every map, with four people, not changing any difficulty but the achievement would simply not pop... when it suddenly dawned on us that we probably had to return to the lobby.

once we figured that out we snapped it up on blood harvest. unfortunately one of the team members lagged out during the finale and the achievement didn't pop for him. he was going to give up but we convinced to go again and we got it to pop for him. then we swapped one of the team members for a friend and we got it to pop again. amazingly we were within the first 50 people to get that achievement legit, and got it to pop back to back to back.

it seems that returning to the lobby if we even thought one of us got hit by special infected was the key-- simply restarting the campaign did not work for us. of course by that time we had a pretty sound strategy that could be applied to any map, and having team members that were good, communicated and that had patience were all key factors too.

this was pretty early on and this is purely anecdotal, but the theory is that simply restarting the campaign carried over ALL stats, including times hit by special infected. we figured this out because we knew that no one died during one playthrough, but someone had a death counted against them, which happened BEFORE we retarted the campaign. so maybe it has been confirmed otherwise, but the theory seemed sound, and deciding to always return to the lobby removed any doubt that this might be the issue, and it soon popped for us afterwards.

hope this helps.

It is getting harder and harder to make a versus match on steam. Everyone is playing coop. We need the content patch now. I wish Valve was more informative on when to expect it.

Yeah we were returning to the lobby as well.

We will try again this weekend anyway. Using some of the tips in this thread I'm sure it will be pretty easy. We'd already got our strategy down so well we were basically speed running the level.

In fact playing in this way - with the difficulty (not getting hit by specials) and the speed run aspects - it's the only time I've really enjoyed the game. My team and I have already beaten all the levels on expert, but to be honest the game never grabbed me that much. But this Nothing Special achievement is making it interesting.

all you should have to do is press the ~ key to open the console, once you have developer console enabled.

Or maybe just fix all the problems. That's why a ton of people have quit playing. Just got tired of wasting time looking for a match that didn't suck.

Firex seems to have some reading comprehension issues.

Acidote you should put the toggleconsole bind into autoexec.cfg rather than config.cfg. Config.cfg bind should work too though, I wonder if you put your new bind before the default ~ bind so it got overridden later.

firex

haha I just woke up and didn't see that. ok well I think if his bind is done exactly the way he said, it won't work that way either.

if the command is toggleconsole, then you shouldn't need quotes around toggleconsole.

This game's matchmaking is junk. With Halo or COD4, if me and my three friends want to play 4v4, we start a lobby and get searching. We'll be matched up against another team of 4 with similar skill, and have a good competitive game.

With L4D, you can't search as a group, so you have to either set up custom games (good luck finding another 7 good people to play with) or start your own game and play against joining randoms, who quit and are replaced every 10 minutes. There are only so many 6500--150 scores before it gets boring.

I doubt they'll ever fix it, which is sad.

Acidote

Member
I'll try with the autoexec in a few hours when I'm home.

The bind should be ok, there was no other bind to F12 or "toggleconsole", and I did it with quotes since every other one was with them.

Thanks to all for your posts :)

tbh i have had no problems with versus games for a while now...

i basically play friends only after slowly but surely adding people to my friends list over a period of time. i have about 40-50 people on my list i have no problems playing the game with. play a few randoms add one or two here and there and it builds over time....
