the way they handled the Tank/Witch thing is terribly unfair for the first group of survivors. The element of surprise if still against them, while the second group gets free passes on the Tank, Witch and tier2 weapon spawns.
My glass-half-full view on the new Tank/Witch spawns are that since the first group of survivors know where the tank or witch will spawn, they can then plan accordingly for their infected turn. A good team should be able to negate the advantage that way.

But aside from that, I agree. I'd prefer alternating survivors/infected each round with the current system.

My ideal situation for tank spawns would be each group of survivors getting the tank before or after a certain point on the map. Like say the 2nd Tier weapons spawn. It won't be perfect, but it's at least some level of fairness with some level of randomness to the spawn. Sure, some folks will catch the tank before the elevator on NM4, but thems the breaks.

well, it stinks that there wont be achievemnts for the new 360 content, but valve releasing free content is fucking awesome.

Indeed, no matter how unfair the previous system was, it was infinitely more fun.

agree 100%.

the new system sucks. the old system was way more fun.

It's so frustrating when another team talks all this shit, says they want to battle my "crew" and we set up a date. And then they're all slamming us in the lobby about how "if we are boring and we start owning them too hard I'm just going to leave."

And then how when the match starts, we fucking annihilate them. And then they leave mid way through the fucking Subway, and send apologetic letters afterwards blaming each other in some way for why they were all dicks.

I think you guys are slightly crazy. It's hard to be nostalgic about a system that absolutely shafted teams at inopportune times for the sake of variety.

The new system is a huge improvement, but some of the missing uncertainties and things have muted some of the greater aspects of the game.

The Director should just be smarter. Don't spawn health packs when the other team has 2 or more health packs. Don't spawn pills when the other team is all in the green. Don't spawn tanks at the same time, but just make sure that both teams GET a tank.

The problem for me in the first version wasn't that a tank would show early for some and later for others, it was that sometimes a team would never get a tank and the other did, and you had issues of people finishing with full health and a ton of health packs while the other team never got any breaks.

The Director shouldn't be concerned with fairness in terms of how items are distributed, but more about keeping the game intense. If a team is getting brutalized, toss a few extra health packs their way. If a team is tearing it up, don't give them any extra help, they don't need it.

Etc.

Woohoo, just got WAYTTP after making a conscious effort to go for it this week. Played all campaigns with random guys. No Mercy was the final one and I made it to the chopper by the skin of my teeth, bumped into a common infected with a Tank chasing me down. Tense! Two of our party weren't so lucky.

Hopefully my versus game should improve some now, too.

Given all my griping about bad servers, I thought I should report a good experience. :p Last night I helped start a GAF room way too late at night, after not really playing for a week or so. We had a couple of miscellaneous Steam friends too (including a substitute I brought in who was pretty new at the game, haha sorry other team >_>).

Anyway, the server was actually shockingly decent. There weren't crazy settings, it didn't crash, and everyone was listed as < 100 ms ping on the server list (and like 40 ms or something ridiculous on my overlay). Poor vert had his wireless mouse batteries die at a most...inopportune time, but we got slaughtered on that level too. :lol Overall my team won by 1000-2000 points, but it felt pretty close and far too stressful and scary for a game that's supposed to be a relaxing zombie fest. So, fun times. It culminated with us having to use teamwork with three zombies (DaFish kept freezing and disconnecting in NM5) to finish off the last three human players on the finale, and I ended up being the last human up and running...killed a couple of special infected and ran all over the place to barely make it to the helicopter ahead of the horde and the freaking hunters chasing me.

I'll definitely be up for trying more once the updates come out, but I'm afraid the servers will be lousy again then because of all the people playing. :D

Oh god. That was so fucking horrible. My teammates were getting raped, two were down, 1 was in the red, and I was stuck in the closet looking like a fucking retard because I couldn't look around due to my damn dead batteries :lol :lol

Man, those games last night were great. I was surprised to see that you guys got so many more points because it really did feel very, very close the entire time. You did make it to the helicopter though, so I think that helps to explain the gulf between points.

And your friend did great, s/he just didn't know the second-nature kind of things like always closing a door behind you. It wasn't a big deal and they were certainly better than a bot.

I can't wait for the new update, it is going to breath a lot of new life into the game.

Have you guys talked about the Outbreak achievement yet? Valve's not the first to do something like this but it's still cool. (Viral achievements).

We need to get a GAF game going soon :( Preferably NOW.

lately all I've been playing is rush games and they're starting to suck alot. Real games ftw! set a date + time for atleast once a week?
Botolf when you read this: I'm really sorry for that game we're playing at the moment :p

GMT+1 around 9pm, how's that sound?

No problem, weird games in a sea of normal ones can be fun too :lol

9 pm GMT (Mountain time?) should be 8 PM Pacific, right? I'm in.

Sorry I couldn't join the other day, was busy playing with a group of friends who haven't played together in a while. Hopefully I can get in on a good GAF game soon :D

So now we're at 4/8 with the half going to be pubbers :(

Botolf suggested we should make the steam group events, so everyone gets this notification and stuff.

"[GAF] The M.O.B" & 2x3n05" is the admin of the L4D gaf group, ask them to make you admin Botolf and set the date and time and people will show up, DO IT.

The PA L4D group thread asks people to join the Steam Group Chat and it seems to work fairly well. It's easy to join but annoying enough people don't idle in there, so everyone there is playing or looking to play. Is there a reason this wouldn't work for the NeoGAF group?

It's not a replacement for events, but it would probably help people find each other more often, and people who miss event announcements may be able to get in anyway if they happen to be online...

This game really needs a feature were it sets up 4 vs 4. I'm talking about you get 3 friends and search for another group of 4 to fight.

The next time you guys want to start up a PC Gaf L4D match, pm me over steam and I'll make an event for the time you guys set.

This way you can get the message out a lot easier:D

Damn, that lighthouse map looks like a lot of fun. It's going to be a bitch holding it, too, with all those breakaway walls thrown into the mix with the standard windows and doors.

That would be awesome. If there's anything more frustrating that people on your team rage-qutting, it's people on the other team rage-qutting. Seems like if the people knew each other, they'd be less apt to rage-quit, even if they didn't know the opposing team.
