The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

If anyone wants to help me with beating the rest of the levels on expert let me know. I don't have the best connection at the moment I do lag a tad but if anyone is willing to put up with that and help me out I would appreciate it. Let me know. I have L4D on PC.

I bought this game about 2 weeks ago and couldn't get into it. Am I missing something?

I hear talks of "points" and "slaughtered the other team." Is there another multiplayer aspect I haven't played yet? Only tried co-op so far for campaign, I thought that was all there was to it?

They are refering to the Versus mode. It's basically the campaign with two teams of four that alternate being survivors and special infected.

It's awesome.

You haven't played verses mode? What are you doing with your life?

Feeling sorry for myself after the buyer remorse went away...but thank god I took a peek into this thread! Going to try Versus mode tonight! Hope I don't get kicked out by my team for being a nub...

Question on the PC version:

When using single or double pistols, firing a shot gives off a really strong white flash. The problem is that if you're firing continuously, it hurts the eyes and it's just asking for a seizure. Is there any command that disables that flash of light whenever you fire a shot? I think the game looks perfect as it is, so I don't want to lower the brightness or contrast, it's just that flash that's bothering me.

As far as I can tell, NM2's building is probably a security/maintenance station for the subway, considering it's actually attached to it.

Oh, and I followed this guide, with some major tweaks to the text files, to play L4D via Wii Remote. My aim is terrrrrrrrible, hahah.

I never even noticed a flash until your post. It looks like I get the same flash no matter what gun I'm shooting, but it is so fast and off-white it doesn't do anything bad to my eyes. Maybe it is your brightness/contrast?

How different is it to this? Pure white? Long-lasting "burn" on your monitor?

Yes, that gif is exactly what i'm talking about!
My computer setup: pc connected to 56" hdtv, wireless kb/m, couch 5-6 feet away.

Because of the size of the screen, when it flashes white, it literally lits the whole room. I know it's fast, but with the pistols it's disruptive for some reason(might have to do with the amount of shots/second vs other weapons. for example, i don't fire the rifle as fast, so my eyes are not continuously assaulted). I usually like to play at night with no lights, but i might have to turn some lights on in the room if it looks like it can't be changed. I'll play with the brightness/contrast, i just wish there was a specific setting for just this because everything else looks perfect.

Nice changes, tanks are gonna be harder to deal with now since their swings hit more than 1 survivor (no more easy wall camping) and smokers + boomers got a nice fix. Versus mode just got a lot more interesting.

The smoker updates look great. Winning survivors playing first sounds like a great idea, and tanks can now spawn in slightly different locations, again good.

But the reduced burning hunter damage? Hunters already had reduced damage, and they're really hard to hit with...they needed nerfed more? :(

I also don't like that they got rid of tank parking. :(

Agreed, the common infected thing was really annoying at times, exploding and not splashing was kinda irritating too.

I wish to play Left 4 Dead and try these changes.

However, I also wish that hunters were not now EVEN WEAKER. Survivors need to be nerfed more! They should hardly ever survive, etc.!

I also wish for more maps. ;____;

Slightly confused about this one though:

Was this some sort of glitch or something? To make sure I understand correctly, I thought any temporary health you have at the end of a round due to pills counts towards your health bonus, is this correct and is this changing that at all?

I hadn't heard about the pill passing glitch. However, sometimes the scores were incorrect; last night, my team's score was calculated for NM1, 1132 points. Then, when we moved onto the loading screen, the display read 1140 points. Hopefully this has been fixed in the patch.
 
tank still doesnt work right :(

smokers are now really awesome and might even help against closet campers as i was pulled out of a house when i was meleeing the entrance hitting zombies and they got some real damage in.

In what way? Also, how much was flaming hunter damage reduced? (to me it wasn't a "no-brainer"...you have to find fire, make even MORE noise to let humans know where you are, make yourself easier to see by being brightly on fire, you can't walljump, you give yourself a limited window of opportunity to attack and you die faster...)
 
Smoker is as awesome as it sounds. Tongue feels like it goes red faster, and they weren't kidding about it not breaking. Smoker is now an infected to be feared.
