If I play any more survival, I want to play it with Scarlet. ;_; I want to see what it's like on a team that easily gets 10 minutes on stuff.

...or then again, maybe if I join such a team they will lose terribly. I promise to not set off gas cans INTENTIONALLY around survivors, at least at first!

Easily my butt, I think out of about 20 total tries (give or take a few), I've only been on a team that has gotten 10+ mins about 4 times or so.

Same. I think I've turned into a slave for cheesemints. :(

I'm pretty bummed about the new ones, they're all the same type of thing. I mean that Last Man Standing one or whatever I guess you get just for playing survival mode the first time.

Yeah, I was hoping for more VS ones or ones based on happenstance. I think Last Stand one is for whoever dies last on Last Stand.

If that's how it's supposed to be, it's already broken; I got it the first time I played the mode (and died first about 6:30 in), and I think Pop On Arrival did too.

"LAST STAND

Complete one round of Survival on The Last Stand."

No need to be the last alive.

Yeah, the name makes it sound like you gotta be the last one, but the description either sounds like you have to beat the mode or just play one.

Huh. I ended up playing a couple of rounds and I didn't get it until until I was the last one to go. It happened to two other people too.

Or that's at least what I thought happened. I know we didn't get it the first time we all died on it. Unless it's set up so you have to have been alive for at least 4 minutes or something like that.

Why on Earth isn't there an achievement for pulling someone through the metal detectors? That seems like prime material right there.

This is true. I haven't played Death Toll more than once or twice so half the areas were foreign to me; I was getting lost all the time. And not knowing which direction the survivors are headed when you are infected is generally not a good thing :)
It was awesome for my group, played probably the most fun Versus game yet on it last night.

Mostly depends on the people you play with, of course. We were two teams of 4, evenely matched the whole way through, so that definitely helped.

The addition of Survival Mode makes me seriously want to get this game right now...if only I had the spare cash.

Any deals on this game at the moment? I'm in the US and am going to buy it for the 360.

Valve needs a survivor race mode.

SCENARIO:
Zoey, Louis, Bill and Francis are stuck in a city full of zombies about to be nuked
They have ten minutes to get their asses to an underground bunker on the other side of the city. It will not be easy with all those zombies in the way and all the warning sirens that will draw zombies into the streets :D

Last one to the bunker is a rotten egg. :D

Man me and a bud were struggling to get past 4mins on most maps.

Gona get back on later tonight and do better, tonnes of fun but man getting smacked of the lighthouse by a tank blows all my cleverly planned traps so badly :lol

On the default survival map with a friend and maybe two other random people we somehow fluked our way to 4:30 our first time through, and never made it that far again for the rest of the day. We bunkered in the square room, got chased out by the first tank, then maybe three of us somehow clawed our way to the spiral staircase where we were able to cover each other while we healed. Then we eventually got overrun as usual.

Every run after that was in the mid 2 minutes (we didn't work together that well). My favorite one was when one of the guys decided to really bunker in the spiral staircase and started stocking it up with gas cans and the like. I started on the roof, with plans to break the window and fall back into the staircase later.

I was a little weary of the guy placing the gas cans where they were, but it was funny as hell when I heard an explosion halfway through that run, looked inside and saw the entire room on fire with both of its inhabitants down. :lol

This would be amazing.

I always wanted another game that was similar to that Kunio-Kun game where it's like a street race with weapons.

Uhh... what are the differences between the versus and campaign maps of Dead Air? I just played DA1 as an infected and there wasn't a single climbable wall on the buildings. What the fuck? :/

edit: Although we voted to change to Dead Air when we were playing Blood Harvest... but still.

Main one I've heard is there's a pile of luggage near the corner behind the plane..but that was in survival mode too.

I noticed they put boxes in the corner of NM2 in survival..I hope that's in vs now, too.

But then my fucking laptop overheated and shutoff. ><

My best time now is 6 minutes though!
I'm gonna get back in about 2 hours, so if anyone wants to play around then send me a friend request.

maybe you guys changed to the campaign map. you can climb walls by using the pipes. try playing DA from the lobby instead.

Nah, I'm Bulleta.

A guy on steam just said that the game still gives you 'credit' if you have cheats on..so you can just noclip somewhere and hang out to get a super high time. Lame.

Oh, it was infamypack who told me.

Yeah. I noclipped myself to the boat on Lighthouse and got a gold medal. Jumped into the water on 10:10 to see if the stats saved and they did. Not so proud of it now. Tried to break it in a legit way earlier but we didn't succeed (like 40 seconds off >:C)

I already assumed that cheats would work because there's this brat on my leaderboards with gold medals on nearly every map with times ranging between 10:00 and 10:20.:lol

Wait, !@#$ is a clan or something? I thought it was just you editing out 'fuck'. :lol

Some maps seem a bit tough to get a gold on, but I think once we find a good spot it shouldn't be too bad. I think I have 3 golds right now, it more or less seems like whoever I'm playing with, we either get about three minutes under the 10 mark, or we last past 13. It's like we either fall way short or over last.

Ah man, Survival mode is great.
Last Stand in particular.

Death Toll is pretty much a cakewalk on Survival, got over 10 on each one on our first tries... and that wasn't even with my normal squad (just 2 of us w/ 2 randoms).

But yeah... it's about time, Valve!
L4D nights have begun once again!

If Valve doesn't make it, I will (if the Source SDK allows for it)

I'm also thinking about making a custom map where the Survivors are in the APC and need to drive through heavily infested zombie country, occasionally they'd need to get out to open a gate or lower a bridge... and that opens up opportunities for a APC/Tank chase (think Jurassic Park)

And stuff with electric fences

Survival Mode is so rad. And Dead Air is SO FUN to play in versus.

Man I love Left 4 Dead.

Melee Fatigue needs to be toned down a TAD though, it is waaay too severe.

That's basically what lots of NeoGAF people do when they play "gauntlet" style. First person to the saferoom wins. Works best against pub players that are bad. I tried playing seriously against fallengorn and three pub players yesterday, and we lost like 2500 to 400. I think Left 4 Dead is typically most fun when you're running each man mostly for himself, dodging zombies. Or, when you're attacking survivors as a zombie. I don't think it's as fun when everyone is crouch-turtling in a corner or in a group the whole map. Plus it's nearly impossible to get people to go along with the idea of everyone crouching or walking so your outlines will be invisible to the infected team.

Another variant I've played is going in pairs, so each pair races to survive to the saferoom. Shutting doors and using molotovs to harass the other pair is fun.

Love the updates a LOT. Now we just need to get the SDK stuff out (should be out soon after DLC launch supposedly).

Fans will be able to do wonders with this engine/director/assets. MAKE IT HAPPEN VALVE! :D

Anyone else getting these silly graphical glitches since the new update?
This is what happened to me at one point when I got pulled on DT's finale in survival:

Anyway I just played a public Dead Air vs game, and DA vs is so much more fun than I was expecting. There are lots of good pounce spots, lots of good ambush spots, and the finale is wide open, yet tough for tank killing.

Now we need a SurviVersus mode with a team of Survivors and Infected. I predict tons of potential rage, but would be a cool addition as well.

I think survival is hard enough as it is. I wouldn't mind being able to do a "playlist" mode for survival, though, where you pick 4-5 maps and do them in order until the last one.

Anyone else think Dead Air is fairly easy (as the survivors) in VS but Death Toll is pretty hard? At least that's the way the games I've played seem to have panned out.

If Valve do make some totally new campaigns I'd like to see them be a bit more inventive with the crescendo events. My favourite by far is the one in No Mercy 3 where you run along the roof with smokers trying to pull you off and boomers vomitting on you from overhead. Even though some people cheat it it's easily the most dynamic and exciting of all of them imo. I think too many of them are just 'here's an area, defend it for two minutes' which mostly just leads to people backing into a corner.

I'm hoping Valve have learnt what works and what doesn't. For example I don't think No Mercy 4 really works in versus, it's just all narrow corridors where it's hard to separate everyone. I think they key to the best maps is that although they're all linear, some of them tempt you into getting separated with open areas or areas divided by obstacles. My favourites are the ones where there's no walls and you can keep fucking around with everyone as a smoker :D

I don't know, we did a really good job killing survivors as infected in DA. Nobody finished a map beyond the first one (for our team) and the 4th one (for the other team) so the final score was like 1300-1140 for our team.

Quit bragging. I celebrated because my friends finally got a bronze on one level. Our average is a little under 3 minutes.:lol
Is there some kind of online statistics? Where? I haven't found it!

Survival Mode is fun but hard as hell. Have to play it a lot more to get better :D

btw: you can drop-carry molotovs and pipebombs to have them near your favorite spot! Just take a moli, go near a pipebomb, switch, the moli drops, step back, do again. If you have the right distance you can carry them around. :D

Played our game against Valve (including Chet) a little earlier tonight on Death Toll. Despite red-bar pings versus their green we managed to run out winners by roughly 2,500 to 1,200. Fun as hell, complete wipeouts at the same point for both teams on DT3 and DT4, and they really pushed us on the finale.

I do it too, I call it 'rush n shoot', it'd be cool if it was encouraged in a proper 'mode'

Best thing about survival. Hording all the non bastard gas tanks and gas tank into one big stack. Putting them near were you will do your hold out, and seeing which one of you will be stupid enough to shoot it :lol

they capped off 90% of the level. incredible.
One possible reason could be the simple fact that hunters would be "walking around in a big area of nothingness" if they were to get up onto buildings or certain areas. Death Toll 4 isn't much like other campaign areas in No Mercy, Dead Air, and Blood Harvest, which are bordered with very tall buildings or sweeping hills. Death Toll 4 isn't like this, the buildings take up all the horizon space, so there aren't hills or tall buildings beyond them. From a human and most boss infected pov's, this makes the most sense, as none of them will see anything beyond a row of buildings, etc. Once you permit access to infected bosses, you'd better have something to see beyond a skybox and the roof of the house. It might have come down to an issue of reduced performance from such views or not enough time to add them.

In death toll i was playing with some people (XBox Live) and we were perched on the rocks as I'm sure most people are doing now. We got to about 12 minutes when I was abruptly kicked for some reason. I had the most health out of all the players, was regularly picking off smokers and helping my teammates out, etc.

I don't use a mic when playing online - do you think that might have been why? Do you guys tend to hate people who are good players, but don't have voice coms? It's certainly not uncommon for people to get kicked in the games I play but there are some situations in which I wonder why it happened.

Red Scarlet

It's been discussed a few times, but yes, it appears a number of 360 players refuse to play with people that don't use mics. Not all, but likely a good amount.

Got together with some people that I regularly play with and made it to 7-10 minutes at the lighthouse and 13:40 at the airport. Cool stuff.

We also got over 7 minutes at the hospital level, which I really liked because there were spots where there's a good long corridor from one direction that works wonders for the hunting rifle. There was also one time when a tank came in from that direction and it died before it even reached us. :D

Agreed on all points. So far I don't care for DA vs. And any map that consists of hallways and small rooms sucks for infected. The dlc is great, but I really want to see new campaigns, if only to keep things varied.

They should consider adding another special infected type just for enclosed spaces. I also think it would be great if Infected could assign a team member to being tank. I hate when I'm with two other friends, one of whom is amazing as tank, and our fourth, a random joiner, gets the tank and totally fails.
