September 29, 2009 - Left 4 Dead Update Released

Updates to Left 4 Dead have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

A new campaign, "Crash Course", is now available for play in Campaign, Versus and Survival modes

In Versus mode, all weapons, pills, health packs, molotovs, pipe bombs and other items will now be identical for the second round of a chapter

Matchmaking has had several improvements to make finding and joining games even faster

Ten all new "Crash Course" achievements have been added

Some people might not like this, but I'm gonna say FINALLY, that's a good idea. I would prefer the losing-team-goes-first method over the CEVO first-swapping method, but I guess I'll get the one I want unless I play on CEVO servers.

Thanks to Crash Course's shortness (I beat it in 31 minutes with all AI teammates), I managed to get Stomach Upset and Do Not Disturb without too much hassle. Although there were some close calls!

Finally got it updated and played a few incredibly laggy rounds of the new campaign.

It feels a lot like Death Abroad, actually. Really open, convoluted levels with tons of gas cans, propane tanks, and weapon drops. It is actually pretty fun playing right now because no one can really figure out where to go. However, I can imagine the levels zipping by in an instant once people learn the routes through.

New infected HUD is great, too. It automatically gives your team information you'd otherwise have to tell them.

I also wouldn't be surprised to be told that regular infected damage has been turned up slightly.
