Ugh, I just woke up and was still so asleep I didn't even notice I paid 800 for it -_-. I saw Shake Appeal was already on it as well, so I wonder what his excuse was :lol . Annoyed, but I wonder what they'll do (if anything) for people who bought it at 800, since I'm sure there's a chunk of people who probably honestly don't know any better.

My excuse is I'm a baller..

Also, I had 1700 points, so no matter what the price, it was going to eat below the sweet spot of 1200 for a big XBLA game.
 
Anyway, played it, it's good. Short, of course, because it's not a full campaign, but both the maps that are there are of a decent length. Still a lot of blocked off rooftops for hunter pounces, but in general there are more infected ladders than ever before, and it really does seem they've designed it for versus play.

Missed out on the 25 point pounce achievement, though. I got a 24. >_<

Oh my fucking GOD, has anyone else played this with bots Campaign? The AI is FUCKED. I just tied on motherfucking NORMAL because the AI never did anything to help me at all, and they kept completely running off around corners and bailing on me. I had a witch on me, no other enemies of any type anywhere, and they completed bailed, then I just died on the finale because they completely bailed on me again, were literally doing absolutely nothing to help me and then run off. When I went down they would come back, pick me up, then completely run off again. This whole time I'm next to the generator I need to be re-starting, so it's not like I'm off in the middle of nowhere, and even if I was that's never mattered before. I am so fucking pissed off right now, I just wanted to check out the levels casually on normal to see what they looked like before I ran some errands.

Valve are just trying to make it more like playing with real people :p

WHYYYYY do they do this. It's hard enough to follow survivors on roofs and get 25-damage pounces as is, without them blocking the roof off with invisible walls so you fall and get shot. I guess it's all so they don't have to worry about long sight distances or something?

Yeah just played Crash Course in campaign. Decent sized levels, nothing terribly exciting in there but it's always good to play more Left 4 Dead on maps you don't know like the back of your hand. Not tried it in versus yet which is where the bread and butter will be but I think it should stack up fairly well because the areas are quite open, not the frustrating-for-the-infected type corridors of NM4 or DA4 for instance.

It'll be L4D2 that really shakes things up with improved cresendo events, new infected, more tangibly different locales etc, but this is a welcome stopgap.

This bothers me as well. It would be so nice to jump from building to building on Death Toll. If they are afraid of cheap 25 hit pounces being an issue, they should redesign the level a little differently. Maybe put an overhang or something. I just wanna be free. :lol
 
I downloaded it before I came into work. God I can't wait to get out of here and play the hell out of it.

I hadn't really played the versus mode very much though. :(

Shoot them at the start. You don't need them anyway! :lol

I believe it's more to do with the way the Source engine works. I read a complicated explanation of it once, about what can be in view at any given time, but I'm damned if I could find it now.

Opening up those places would involve them actually spending significant time on editing the maps for versus mode...and that's not gonna happen when they have their hands full. That's why the 2 "new" versus maps came out with the same problem all over the place while the initial 2 maps didn't.

And I wouldn't keep your hopes up for l4d2 maps not having the same issue. I foresee less 3-dimensionality in the maps in order to push out those 5 campaigns in 1 year while working on everything else in order for the game to be released in time. Also, you might notice that the 3 new infected aren't really as height-dependent as the hunter or smoker. Most of them appear to be designed to get "in yo face." Less reliance on pouncing and smoking = less need for height. But you never know. Miracles can happen.

hey guys, i have a question about l4d multiplayer and steam?

how's the matchmaking on steam/joining games, i'm think about picking up l4d2 when it comes out, but of my immediate friends, i'm going to be the only who plays this. do you really need to coordinate matches or are there random games constantly popping up.

how easy is to join/play online games? my only mp experiences have been battlenet for wc3 or limited xbox live. i'll be playing on pc.

This one's pretty easy if you play with 3 other people you know, you just confirm in advance the others won't shoot it, then shoot the hell out of it/light it on fire, shoot it a few times and run until it dies. It's impossible with bots or random internet people tho ;)

Most of the infected ones aren't all that difficult, just takes some luck and knowing where to position yourself in a map.

If you have it set to auto update, it will get it when it's available. If it's not doing that and you KNOW its up, just either start the application (it'll check for updates and download them first before running the game) or restart Steam.

I will try this when I get home for sure. I am going to see what that x360a website says about the achievement.

Yeah, I understood why Death Toll was the way it is but hearing Crash Course is the same is a little disheartening. I feel with a smaller campaign, they could have done more. This is just based on what I've read though. I don't have L4D on the 360 so I haven't experienced it for myself. I'm sure I'll like it anyway though. Death Toll is one of my favorites even though the town is tough for hunters after the initial church jump. :lol
