Not for me. Runs a hell of a lot worse.
Same here and I can run TF2 on High settings...
Good game but seriously Valve, I thought you guys knew what PC gamers wanted? We want an actual ping NUMBER, not a fucking bar and what about a server list... Jeez too laggy right now to even play properly.

( :lol )

Anyway, I think my campus internet is going to keep me from playing this fucking game. I haven't been able to connect to a single game (while stuff like TF2 and WoW work no problem).

Turtle Rock Studios *ahem*

I think i'd rather have seen valve building this game from the ground up and not just "acquiring" the studio but that's just me since the track record they have wasn't that great.

I think the game is great even if I have my own things i don't really like but it just really feel like a post from 360 right now, I'm looking forward to see post release content see what direction they go for the pc version (should be good since they're now... valve) :P

Yeah, this is Vave South's doing. I'm sure of it.

That said, Valve North still had to approve.

It isn't even a big thing to implement, just give people the option. That is all.

I'm pretty sure they will, given this reaction so far. Meters are fine, just give us pings next to them. Let us play on our own servers, and provide a server browser. It doesn't even need to be front-end.

It runs fine for me but I'm not really pushing it hard (1280x1024 everything maxed). Biggest problem I had was windows firewall trying to block it when I played online, and the game I was in fucking up after we got past the first safe room.

Not to start a console vs PC "war" but I got codes for both versions and I've done a bit of comparing between the two...

If you're trying pick between the two TODAY I'd definitely go with the 360 version. I've experienced significant amounts of lag on the PC but when I played on the 360 it felt identical to playing single player. Both are on the same network and everything. Obviously the gameplay is identical but the 360 version also has the handy 180 degree turn feature. Aiming works great with a controller as well.

I'm sure Valve will do everything to get the PC version up to speed but unless you've got a super rig that blows away the 360 or if you're big into mods you've got to give the nod to the 360 right now.

Wow, don't even bother playing this on anything less than Expert the game is just so much better, and the the AI seems smarted. Had a Smoker pull me with his tongue, and as I was being dragged towards him, a Hunter pounced on me, and once we had sorted them out a Boomer charged right at as, vomiting on me and then we got destroyed by a massive horde of zombies.

Just tried expert single player and died about half way through. Not really feeling the game so far, then again I havent been able to play co-op, way to go valve!

Valve is updating this demo continuously, it seems. :lol

I *just* went to start up the game again to try to get a lock on which graphics settings I should use, and I'm updating once again. The PC version is going to be better by the end of the day!

Complaints

Complaints

- laggy servers run by people without a computer/internet connection powerful enough to sustain it

- Loss of control over your multiplayer experience

- More difficult to quickly hop into games with friends

- Not everyone has a friend in their group who can "host"

- PC users aren't really familiar with console style matchmaking

- Seems like it's trying to provide a solution to a problem that doesn't exist on the PC platform.

- Lobby leader cannot even see pings (Thanks eulogy1337)

- Auto server search does not seem to take ping into account at all, dropping you into laggy games (Thanks Bwat47, edited for length/spelling)

- "I run a dedicated server with 5 l4d servers on it...I can't use my own servers....why should I bother?" Unverified, can another dedicated server host pipe up if they are able to specifically connect to their own server? (Thanks Poag)

- Requires too many steps to just simply get in game and seems reliant on too many random elements to get a fun playing experience (Thanks Nova225, edited for clarity)

- Claustrophobia: The player can only see 4 players at a time. There is no sense of how many people are currently playing, or what kinds of maps are being played the most, or what server mods (or custom maps) are popular. These things are important to a player for gauging the feel of the community. There's no way to know if there are only 50 people playing, versus 50,000. It's uncomfortable being in the dark on the L4D community as a whole, seeing only a 4-player chunk at a time. It doesn't feel like you're part of a big, popular game. (Thanks Swarmer, this is a good one)

Suggestions

- Give us a list of lobbies with an average ping or at least sort people by their location. (Thanks Nethlem)

- Make matchmaking optional for those that like it and have a simple server list with a few basic filters for those that don't. e.g - dont show full servers, show only vanilla servers, etc. (Thanks Delta)

- Dedicated server admins would like a way to set client affinity or locational preference so that laggy clients can connect somewhere that they will ping better (Thanks pseudoart)

- Add back a Cancel button during client connection (Thanks ZeroBullet)

Relatively easy things to fix, get on it Valve. Now.

The whole scene was pretty funny. You know those horror movies where you have the whole bunch which is competent, but there is always one guy who has to buck the curve and ruin it for everyone else...this is what happened! Three of us had mics, we were all going don't shoot the witch, don't shoot! Of course the 4th guy without the mic shoots her and then all hell breaks loose. :lol

What is the witch's method of kicking ass? Does she just hit you and its instant death?

That won't be true for long.

yeah, the single player pretty much sucks, but I expected that (plus it's not the point of the game). It's just thrown in there for antisocial people I'm guessing, or maybe achievement farming. Or just because it was easy enough since they added the AI for when people are afk. Single player doesn't really let you do anything beyond take point and charge.

Me, Cajole, Doja were in a game. We had just gotten to the bottom of the second set of stairs, near the kitchen, in the first part of the game. I had closed the door behind us. We start hearing this noise, like some kind of rumbling.

I'm like "What is that? Do you hear that?"

Before anyone can respond.

Suddenly, infected just fucking swarm the room, so many of them. It was crazy. The rumbling was all of them running down the stairs, and breaking down the door. It was straight out of a fucking movie, I swear to god.

So GameStop says more codes should be going out later today for 360 pre-orders...I pre-ordered the day the demo was announced and didn't get one yet. I may even get two because I tried the website thing as well. But I want to play now dammit:lol If anyone has an extra code and feels generous, let me know.

That is what I was waiting to hear... Had credit on this game, don't plan to play much online, so I will probably pull the credit and wait for a price drop next summer on it...

Alright guys, I get the complaints about things not working right, the lack of a server browser, etc., but complaining about the fact that Left 4 Dead has matchmaking at all?

The friends matchmaking for Left 4 Dead shows awesome potential. Once connection problems are sorted out, it'll work brilliantly. Finding games with friends and getting into games with friends couldn't be easier, and as long as it supports custom maps and mods just as easily with the final version, I don't see what the problem with this is at all.

I completely agree that a server browser would be nice, to see how many people are playing, have more control over joining random servers, seeing your ping, etc. but give me a break - this game hasn't been "consolized", the 360 version is obviously not the lead version, and whatever issues the demo has now will be fixed in no time.

I don't mind that they've tried to simplify everything, but I'd like to have the option to see pings, connect to a server that I want (maybe even with a group). Just because they simplify things doesn't mean that they can't have a layered approach. Like, not everyone knows about the console, but it's still there.

you really should mind. valve have made some weird decisions lately (the tf2 achievement=better weaponry for one) but this takes the piss, freezes it and uses it to stab out your sick grandma's eyes.

this isn't lazy design or convenience, it's fucking draconian dictation. i've been totally pumped on L4D, shilling it to all my friends - and now this? fuck.

i'm not even gonna buy until they sort out this bullshit. i suggest every pc gamer who doesn't want valve to drag us down into the console infrastructure shit pipe does the same.

Left 4 Dead will use the new matchmaking system we've been working on.

The new matchmaking system replaces the traditional server browser. By running a public dedicated server your server will be added to a list of servers available for clients to use when playing. Games are started from a Game Lobby by clients, who are then connected to a dedicated server when they start the game. When they're done, your server is added back to the list of available servers. Clients will be able to "Quick Match", "Play Online", and "Play With Friends" when they want to play a game.

You will still have access to the traditional Message of the Day for your server. For Left 4 Dead, we've added a banner ad you can create that will be displayed to clients when they're playing on your server. There is also a ranking system to show the popularity of your server.

This is the first version of what we've been working on, and we're going to want feedback from all of you once things start turning up tomorrow.

also, I don't really find anything except lack of a server browser annoying, and even that's not a big deal. I assume it'll either be added in after release or after all the bitching since it can't be hard to do. The matchmaking doesn't bother me really because I'm used to it from Warcraft 3 and it's managed about a billion times better than there. Plus it's way easier to join a game with your Steam friends than a server browser ever is.

You should try it yourself first. Imho it is still a very intense single player experience. Played through it several times and every time you get new "oh shit!" moments.

Fucking nailed it. Goddamn Valve shills defending this garbage.

Get loud, make noise, complain.

i hope you're right. i want this game like fucking crazy.

Got disconnected three times from different games but what I did play was a ton of fun. That said, I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of server browser and now I'm considering going 360 for this game if that doesn't get fixed :/

This game is fucking awesome :D

I can't wait to try out the Versus mode though...

Oh, and I also hope more PC servers will be going up throughout today. The two online games I've joined have been laggy as shit. :lol

Honestly, it's a four player game online. Why would you want a server browser? That'd be a much less efficient method of joining a four player game than just quickmatching.

If it was your standard multiplayer game I could see caring, but comon.

ghst, don't be so dramatic. Draconian dictation? PLEASE

It's a limited demo, with therefore limited features. The game plays freaking awesome, it's easy as pie to get into a game with friends unlike Team Fortress 2, and there's nothing "draconian" at all about it.

No, sorry :(. I simply meant that my 360 and PC are on my home network and the PC version had lag and the 360 version didn't.

This game would work perfectly cross platform though...

Than it should work like Xbox where one player is also the server/host, or Valve should be footing the bill for servers.

No one is going to pay for servers if they are only accessible via a random matchmaking system.

It would be helpful for finding custom games, but yes, for the most part I agree - if they implemented a way to easily browse custom games within the matchmaking interface, it would be perfect, and there would be no need for a server browser.

Efficiency is worth nothing if the quality is shit.

I'd rather spend 15 extra seconds looking for a server knowing that it's a good choice.

While quick, it is the lack of control that really bothers people I think. At the moment it simple throws people all over the world on a random server somewhere on the world.

Yeah, Valve should foot the bill for some servers in this situation.

At the other guy, a custom games option would be sweet too.

i'm sure they will implement a server browser after all the complaints, the game needs both

if however they came out pre launch and said there will never be a browser its matchmaking only, then yeah i wouldn't buy it
