The demo takes about a half hour to run through. I've already played it seven times (3.5 hours) and plan to do so many more times before nov 18 when I pick up the full retail product.

You run through the same areas, but I've yet to have an experience which is the same.

Yeah, it truly is different each time.

I tried to go back for some more ammo once, whooo boy, the Director didn't really like that. Got hit with multiple waves and a boomer. :lol

Hm, the server browser isn't working for me. "No internet games responded to the query"

Anyone else getting that? It works for any other game I specify in the filter.

Wow, game is very impressive, presentation wise especially--the movie effect really works, everything from the grain to the gun smoke effects are so awesome, as are the menus, load screens, intro, etc. Really, the weakest part is the shooting--I really wish it had iron sights--but its not bad by any stretch and doesn't really take away from the experience. If I can have this much fun playing through the same area multiple times in a row like a did and still be left wanting more...well its damn good.
So basically yay, the game we all expected to be awesome is awesome! :D

Damn it, pre-ordered legit 2 copies at Gamestop about a week ago, and neither one of us have gotten the codes :(
I've possibly got two illegitimate codes coming, I'll let you know when they arrive in case they come before yours.

Nice vids man...I like how it warns that some cars set an alarm and you proceed to shoot one and all hell breaks loose hehe...

Thanks :D I wasn't sure about this game but playing the demo has sold me on it.

Man, this game has decided to start running like shit tonight. I don't have a great setup but an 8600 card should be good enough at a resolution near 1024.

Guess I'll be buying a new card soon :(

Seriously....amazing game. Zombie game of the forever and all that. Can't get enough and that's only the 2 out of 20 maps.

But servers will be a real problem. Another server "shut down", whatever that means. Game ran like crap on it. :(

Well, at least I was able to complete the Subway for once! After like what, three tries? :lol

Finishing on advanced is like not finishing it at all!

But they should give us full health after respawn or additional medipacks. :(

Okay so this has probably been asked a thousand times in this thread, but since I can't seem to find it...

How long should I expect to wait for my demo code? I pre-ordered at 11:47 this morning.

Bump so maybe I can get an answer before I get home.

Thanks =)

Aw. Well in Expert, the whole time I'm thinking "Man, we're fucked."

Next question I have is about how long the fun will last... it's the #1 criteria I use to decide if I should buy or rent a game. How many hours you think L4D will give us? I read about how the replayability is supposed to be really high but I dunno... is there ranks or anything? Or do you just keep replaying the same levels over and over in co-op and then the Director makes it less repetitive?
The demo has two levels, and I played the demo seven times today and look forward to playing it more, especially with friends. Those two levels are part of a campaign of five levels, and the game ships with four campaigns in total. I imagine blasting through all of them once would take 10-15 hours. But the Director really is incredible, and really does surprise you again and again, especially if one of your team charges ahead or hangs back too much. Throw in Versus mode...

I mean, your mileage may vary, but I think this thing has longer legs than most full-blooded shooters on the market, even those with multiplayer modes. And that's even before Valve add new content (which I imagine is a definite possibility), or mods and player-made maps start to arrive (provided you're playing on the PC).

Yeah, if they're going to keep supporting this like they're doing TF2, I can see this game lasting me a very long time.

Has anyone gotten this to work?

edit: Nevermind, saw the Custom tab in-game.

For people worried about PC specs, I'm playing it on the following:

AMD64 2800+
1GB RAM
9800Pro 128MB

I'm playing at 800 * 600 with everything the game automatically set (ie. Low). No idea what FPS I'm getting but I'd say it's over 30. Certainly feels and looks smooth.

So, 4+ year old hardware can run the game.

I picked a terrible time to switch to Vista on my PC. I needed to format my system HDD, so I figured I would get a head start on being accustomed to Vista for when I build a Nehalem rig. My PC has a overclocked Athlon 3500, 2GB DDR, and a 7800GTX. For Source games up to Episode 2, I've been able to run everything at max (except for blur), 1920x1200, and still get 60FPS........on XP. Now with Vista I've got half the system RAM being eaten up by the OS alone, and at the lowest 16:10 resolution with details at low/medium, I'm getting between 0 and 60 FPS :lol

so the last 2 games i was in loaded to the server and prompted for password?

I also got a password protected server today. This and some crappy servers out there show that the system still needs lots of work. Hope they get it right till release.

That sucks. New games run better on Vista, especially if you have the latest hardware. The newer stuff must have better Vista drivers.

Has anyone read the Rock Paper Shotgun previews of this? They're pretty glowing, but also seem to say that the campaign is basically a 'prologue' to the Versus experience, which is where the game truly excels. If that turns out to be the case, colour me even more impressed.

I finally got my code from gamestop, but when I click the link they gave the it opens my steam, and takes me to a page with an 'install demo' button, but when I click the button nothing happens. Anyone installed with a gamestop pre-order yet?

Unfortuantely...preordering it from Amazon was a bad idea if ppl wanted to play first...but im not complaining that it only cost me 31 bucks :|
*but still, if anyones has a PC code...:D

Oddly enough, I'm running this with a few more bells and whistles on than how I run TF2 and I feel like I'm getting better performance...could be my imagination though. Either way, game looks great without performance being an issue, and that is good enough for me.

Ha, wait till you're the sucker that gets saved from being jumped on only to be grabbed by the tongue dude, and then finally vomited on minutes later--and then is the last person to go to the final save area and almost fucks it up by shooting the witch outside the door. :D
