gotta love when they spawn a witch right before the very last safe room. she was sitting crying RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DOOR

.... we died
:lol :lol Happened to me and some dudes from here, except she was a little past the door. I was so close to shooting her before realizing what she was, but we slid by.

I'm just about ready to give up and delete the demo entirely. An hour of trying to join an online game and I only managed to connect to one shortly before the other guys beat the level at which point it booted me from the server. All I'm getting now is "server map differs from your own" whenever I try to join a server with the first demo map loaded. This sucks.

Random password requirements and crashing games everywhere, no good.

When you can actually get in a game, the experience is usually damn good. Gotta make sure the group moves along though; it's too easy to get caught up with trying to pick up knick knacks.

Go into Steam and verify cache.

Also, everyone make sure your ports are open and Windows Firewall isn't blocking (add an exception).

I've only occassionally had connection issues when connecting to servers. Only other problem so far is the servers lagging, but thats because theres not enough yet. A lot better than this morning though.

Finally, custom mappers are starting work. They are decompiling the demo maps, finding entities and such, so in the next few days you should hopefully expect some sort of custom map :D

Oh, and you can spawn as boss zombies in the customs as well apparently :D

Holy motherfucking tits of god, the game is so awesome. I haven't been into a shooter this much since Bioshock. The atmosphere is just excellent, and the random spawn makes it even more unpredictable.

I played with complete strangers and we were still compelled to help each other out. Awesome.

how come i see someone on my friend's list playing a demo, but iits not in the list in the marketplace?

The demo will be released next week. There's a promotion for an early demo going on right now if you preorder the game... Or fake preorder it. :lol

You need a preorder code. There is a link a few pages back with instructions on how to get one, not sure if it's still working though. Or you can do what I did, preorder on steam :D

edit: game is everything I wanted and more, best co-op game I have played

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that Dr. Breen's face on those newspapers that are lying around?

Hmmm I haven't noticed personally but I am sure Valve has put lots of hidden fan service in there. I love reading the stuff on the walls, really adds to the immersion.

I really was looking foward to this title but microsoft will not allow my main profile with my achievments on XBL....
Well I miss out then =(

Zombie Goodness please come to PS3

The game doesn't run on my computer with integrated graphics, but it runs incredibly well on my other old computer with just a 6800. I think it might even run better than other source engine games and it looks better, too.

Still, it goes to like 2 fps (literally) at DX8 level on my integrated card and I have no clue why. Every other source game runs at like 60fps at that level, but not this one.

just played a round on advanced too freaking crazy our team kept getting killed the entire time it took us about an hour to get thro the subway. Those tanks are a pain to get down!

I don't have the game yet, but try disabling the film grain effect. That seems like the logical difference between L4D and other Source games right off the bat.

I'm loving the animation in this game.

There's nothing like having a zombie charge at you and shooting it through the mouth with a single bullet. Slowing it's forward momentum to a crawl and having it shamble 3 more steps to try and get you onlt to collapse in a heap at your feet. :D

..or when you land a solid shotgun blast to the gut and send one flying 5 feet backwards.

..or blowing one's head clean off in mid flight and having it fly past you :lol

Advanced is just right for me in terms of difficulty, and expert is an exercise in instant death. I love playing them both though.

It doesn't make a difference in performance.

I've also tried disabling everything. It's like I'm playing Quake 2. But it still runs like ass. :(

Integrated graphics is terrible man. The 6800 is still an ok card, it was the top of the line 4 years ago.

Well, integrated graphics runs TF2 fine. 25-40fps on low. I'm going to be picking up a new card soon, but I just wish it could run on low at a playable framerate.

Integrated graphics is terrible man. The 6800 is still an ok card, it was the top of the line 4 years ago, and around the level of low end cards now (which are still like 5x faster than modern integrated)

I say goodbye to my 6800gt tomorrow and replace it with a 9600gt.

I'm sad see the old card go, but it's time. :(

360 and online splitscreen works really well. Even has the option for vertical or horizontal split!

Expert mode is awesome.

Virtually every random I've played with so far has been a fairly good team player.

Expert is just about the right difficulty for me right now.
I really hope that there are harder levels for when I get better... Or maybe the vs. will be able to fill that role...

"YOU ARE ALL GONNA DIE" :lol

One of the safehouse had a few writings on the walls along those line. Usual Valve stuff but still very well done. That's the kind of stuff, the AI Director that will keep replaying the game fresh. I'll try to play a bit after work, I am already sleepy though >_<

Agreed. I wasn't expecting the physics, and animations to be so entertaining, but they definitely are. It adds quite a bit to the overall fun.

Anyone have an extra PC code? Mine is taking forever to show up. If so I would gladly give mine away once it decides to show up.

... just beat it on expert... witch spawned right at last stairs before minigun.... we all unloaded, one of us went down. I killed another teammate with the minigun trying to get zombies off him. 2 of us survived.... holy fuck it was awesome. no one had a mic but me, so i didnt turn mine on.

imagine getting xp for each kill and gain skill in each weapon class and getting special abilities/perks... like stronger melee or penetrating bullets.. or i cant wait for this game.

also runs well at 1024 by 768 with everything on high without aa on my x800xt 3.4 p4 and 2.5 gig ram. i love source.

Yeah, this game is fantastic. I have to agree with others in that the animation is awesome.

I also love how the zombies come sprinting at you and zig zag and shit.

I haven't tried connection online, but this game if fucking rad playing with friends in the same room. I think there were like 10 servers up today at work during lunch.

Also, normal is way to easy. Advanced feels pretty good and tense but still very doable...I am going to give expert a try and see how that goes.

Awesome game.

Shucks, I feel silly. After monitoring my Gmail and yahoo accounts all day, I didn't check my hotmail account until now. Boom! Code was there, and has been for about eight hours.

/facepalm

Quick Question.
I downloaded the demo and tried to play it and everytime i did the game would be stuck on the "Launching Left 4 Dead" Popup when you play a game.
I deleted and im trying to redownload becauseI thought it might have been a corrupted file, but now when im trying to dl it the percent stays at 0 no matter how long i leave it dln. Any suggestions or tips?

edit: Okay now it automajickly wants to start increasing percentage. at 1% now but in case the freeze happens again is there any suggestions or files that need to be looked into? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED, I WANT TO PLAY >.<

Hey guys,

One of my friends on HL2World posted his custom map he made.

http://www.thesaferoom.org/2008/11/first-custom-l4d-map/

It's pretty fun even though it's basically just a test map :lol

Also, it's really amazing to watch director_debug when you have cheats on, and see the value it assigns to everyone based on how they're doing (from 0 to 1)

*Edit* Ignore error on startup.

Also, not sure if it will work online.

Spent forever trying to beat the subway on expert with JoeFu and Crooked Rain and another good player, but the farthest we could get was right before the warehouse finale. Goddamn (insert special zombie name here)!

As does the audio between the characters.

With them screaming for help, pointing out stuff they've seen or heard (like specific enemies in the area or health/ammo locations) and the like, you barely need the human players to talk. :lol

Update released. Details from here: http://csnation.totalgamingnetwork.com/

* Fixed several issues with matchmaking and password protected servers
* Tuned matchmaking to provide better search results
* Fixed bug where servers could stay reserved by matchmaking forever
* Performance optimizations and fixes to networking layer
* Fixed issue where game could cause Steam executable to use too much CPU
* Fixed music resetting when changing video settings
* Fixed some issues with not being able to chat and/or connect to other users

They've also added a few features to help enable private servers.

Set a sv_search_key to a unique string on the server
Do the same on each client that will want to connect
Start a map on the server
Searches for games should be restricted to only finding servers with that search key

Or

Set sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0
Set sv_password to a non-empty string
Start a map on the server
Tell the client the IP address of the server
Client uses console to "connect " just like the good old days
Should result in password prompt during connect to server

Nobody seems to be using voice chat on the 360 version, it's weird.

Amazingly fun, haven't had the chance to play through a level without the server crapping out yet but damn this is going to be great. :D
