It was most likely my really bad connection/firewall.

Supposedly, I'm going to get the game for half price on black friday, so then I'll be able to play the full one.
Where is this game being sold for half price?!

You should get a mic too. :P

I had one before, but lost it and stopped using it due to talking too much/having an annoying voice and some people being dumb. Lost it in a move, seemed like a sign to not bother.

Nowhere; just a 'deal' I'm having with a friend.

Is this confirmed? Do I need a pre-order or anything?

It doesn't really matter when you get the box copy for the PC at least... Valve doesn't unlock the game until official release time.

For the 360, as soon as you find a copy, you're good to go though.

Not much longer! :D

But it's SO much better for teamwork. :P

Plus the GAF ventrilo server needs to be used, it's always empty.
The only people that use it are Saelz and me.

It seems a little easier to find random servers now (I'm not sure about finding a server when you make a friends-only lobby), but UGH...section two still does the reconnect-lag thing every four seconds for me. Pretty sure this game is one to not buy unless it drops to $30 later or something. :/

Source games have an in-game voice chat mechanic that works perfectly well.

Also, a mic is so not necessary for this game. Valve did an excellent job with the sound cues, etc. I've made it through countless times in Expert without anyone using a mic -- and no one died!

That said, I prefer having one anyway. O:

I had that problem the other day -- haven't played since. Mostly because I've been busy.

But, um, that'll likely be sorted out pretty quick... The game is easily worth the asking price.

Hahaha! I just sequence broke the game!

I went ahead of the group, ran all the way to the factory while they were in the subway station, and set off the door switch. Then I died and respawned. When they arrived, the factory door was open and the zombies were spread thin. The director didn't set off any zombie hordes either, I was too far ahead.

I'm surprised the director didn't send any horde after you since you left the group behind.

I've tried to do stuff like that, but whenever I try to run past zombies with my flashlight off, they all swarm me.

Or, if I try moving ahead, we end up encountering one tank, three witches, 1-2 hunters, and a boomer in the (first half of the) subway level.

Oh yeah!

My copy shipped from Amazon tonight! Also shipped from minnesota too since its only one state over which means I should have it tommorrow! 32 bucks and free super saver overnight shipping! I was thinking about getting Prime but whats the point when a distribution center is right near me!

Type in console rate 20000. That fixes the lag.

Same here... except amazon is still "shipping soon". Glad the distribution center is a state over as well. Waiting for an extra day to save 18 bones is well worth it.

Strange, it was expert mode as well. But they were literally still in the spawn area, while I was almost to the safe room. But then a Hunter pinned me down and killed me.

Looks like I'm going to have to wait until Friday to get my copy of Left 4 Dead. But it's all right, I've got plenty of Gears 2 to play. Going to be playing Gears 2 and L4D for a long time:D

Played some intense matches tonight with Zzoram and ghst.

This game rocks on PC. I really need to get myself setup with a headset and mic.

Can't wait till the unlock!

Yeah having a mic makes it much more fun. I'm not sure if you can set it to be an open voice channel in game without having to push to talk but last night me and a couple of friends got on skype, fired up Left4Dead and had a blast. It just makes it so much more fun when you can hear your teammates scream like little girls when they see a Tank running towards them.

Yeah, versus mode using normal is probably because human controlled infected are most likely radically more effective than AI controlled ones and having them on advanced difficulty (which is apparently difficult to complete on its own) combined with human players would just make it a slaughterhouse.

This. Combined assaults by human zombies will probably be the norm, so the difficulty would be ridiculous on advanced and expert.

Wow wtf, L4D had a user metacritic score of like 8.3 a few hours ago and now its 2.9. Im sick of people rating games that aren't even out yet.

Why is metacritic still allowing user reviews? The stupid fanboy wars has ruined the system, and might actually turn away customers who don't understand what is going on.

User reviews don't contribute to the "big" metascore, thankfully.

Zzoram said:
Ya, but it's still a prominent red bolded low mark beside the metascore.
True, but as of right now there's a little over 100 user ratings. The game's release should help rectify that skewed score.

I doubt that, a ton of released games still have awfully low user scores.

Are we organizing GAF play through sessions for zero hour?

I'm on the east coast and I'd like to do one for expert. Is anyone else also in the same situation?

Valve hasn't received many negative user scores at Metacritic at all, I wouldn't be worried (the lowest they've gone is 60ish and 70ish on two games, and those two were Portal: Still Alive and The Ship).

22 more hours.

I've been playing with 300-400 latency and I don't give a shit. This game is so fucking addictive. I mean, seriously, I have NEVER spent a 6 hour play session with a demo before. That's what I just did a few minutes ago. I was just sitting on my ass, playing Left 4 dead, smoking cigarettes and scratching my balls.

God fuck me this game is awesome.

It was fun, huh. Your ping was like 3x better than mine and you live 8000 miles away from the servers. :lol

Don't know what I should say to the internet guys at school to try to fix my ping.

Ok, so as i stated earlier I dont have a dvd drive to physically install the disk if i were to purchase a physical copy. Is there any way to take the cd key from the physical copy and use that to download via steam? Basically apply the key to my account and download rather than install

Your ping went back to 3 bars near the end of our play session. Your shit ping is probably related to the time you're playing. But yeah, you started off with 2000ms, which is just sad.

I don't know, I mean, I played the zombie mod for over a month in September with a 30 ping at the server I went to, then it became shitty with a low of 50, average of 200-500, max of 1200, which made it unplayable so I had to quit.

I don't know if I downloaded too much stuff and the school decided to nerf my internet or what. Other people had problems, and the internet company came to the school about 3 weeks ago to fix the internet, but it did absolutely nothing for my ping. But at least this is playable most of the time. CS Zombies wasn't (125+ms kick where I played).

so today when my group reached the subway, out of no where it said "omg mode enabled"

all of a sudden, we were facing never ending swarms of zombies and had unlimited ammo/no reloading. I was hosting the server and I did not type anything in console. Odd, no?

Your Ping wasn't bad yesterday though... :/
Are you on a router or wireless?
Could be someone is taking up the bandwidth.

Anyways, hope you do get the game on Black Friday,
cause then we can actually finish that campaign. :P

Game preloaded, and raring to go. I will probably do the full campaign on single just to get a hold of things (i'm usually very slow on picking up strategies), and then jump on the meat of the game, the multiplayer.

Don't.

Seriously, the game is meant to be played with other people. Not everyone is gonna be an expert on the opening day. Discovering what the game has to offer with friends is gonna be a blast.

I'm all for multiplayer, but I got to learn my maps first. My first ten hours of this game is going to be single player followed by single player commentary. See you guys on the other side!:D
