The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

Wow, this is both totally awesome, and hard as hell. After about 2 1/2 hours of playing on expert, myself PillowKnight JoeFU and Firex couldn't finish the first compaign before Firex had to go to work and shut down our locally hosted match. Doesn't matter though, I can already tell this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Just finished a No Mercy run on Normal (first run) with some random people...

All I have to say is:

So awesome.

At the end, Louis was knocked off the rooftop by a Tank, and we were treated to an "In Memory Of" bit in the credits. :lol

Dead Space just got trumped in the "Surprise of the Year" category.

Jesus Christ, that was FUCKING AWESOME. Just beat No Mercy on advanced with FatalT, hypoetical and ahoyhoy. We were saying the same thing about people saying expert was too easy. Advanced was intense as hell. So many awesome moments, but of course the finale of No Mercy was the high point. I loved the "In Memory of.." touch at the end.

Can't wait to play the sequel to No Mercy tomorrow! :D

Oh, and I forgot to mention...just the No Mercy campaign on advanced took an hour and a half learning. Not exactly a short game, especially once people get custom maps and more servers up. And I didn't lag out once (maybe one short bout of lag) once we FINALLY landed a server.

I didn't like being... LEFT FO DEAD! It was always you getting killed by the Tank's, but the other players always killed me (because I was the black guy, right?)

Awesome game. Lots o' Laughs to those who say Advanced is too easy. The last level of No Mercy took us at least 20-30 minutes, and I still didn't make it.

I'm hoping pseudo-dynamic maps is next up for Valve in supplement to the AI Director. Map that were pre-fabbed to have more than one possible placement would keep the movies lasting a lot longer. As for the AI director, "Get in the choppah" moments with the chopper landing one out of many places on a building would be awesome, as well. Is that happening in No Mercy or is the chopper landing at the same place every time?

The maps are dynamic.

I remember in the third level of No Mercy, one time the Gas Station blew up and a Tank popped out, another time it didn't and it simply had a Witch chilling in front of it. Other times, Zombies popped out of walls and opened new passages in some instances, while other times they popped out the opposite sides.

I was about to post this.

Was fun dude. You guys need to get mics though!

And Expert is brutal, I don't see how anybody can say it is easy.

I think I only have one European person on my friends list, and that guy I don't think plays these kinds of games. I know Pop will be around, but dunno if he'd want to play first scenario again right afterward.

"Pretty sure the answer is no, unless people mod or Valve makes more games."

Demo end screen said there were 10? weapons. Either 10 or 10 more. Technically, there's 7 guns, 2 explosives, 1 minigun, so that could be the 10 weapons right there.

"In Loving Memory of: [GAF]ProtoMila"

Na fuck that, fuck you Volcynika, fuck you Blizzard and fuck you Darkresurrction. I was the second tank bait right before the choppah, we down the tank and a smoker grabs me. Volc takes his sweet ass time to free me so I get downed. Instead of helping me up since you know he was standing right next to me, He runs for the Choppah which hadn't even fucking landed! But I'll let it slide, he is a woman and did eventually get the Smoker off of me. And then what, may you ask were my other two companions thinking?

Save Mila, theres no zombies right?

Surely we must save good ole Bill, I mean he did save our asses from the closet all those times. Heck, he even volunteered as Tank and Witch bait even though he was the better shot. (All those years in Nam, ya Dig). I was even so kind as to use my med kits on ya after all those times I SAVED YOUR ASS from being ZOMBIE DINNER!!! But NOooOoo. Blizzard Runs Right FUCKING OVER ME and Darkresurrection, I'm laying there, saving your ass and our run from a Boomer and do you repay it with a pick up? NO.

So i'ma leave you guys with a sincere, Fuck You!

Enjoy your:

I fucking love this game :lol

:lol I expect a lot of these stories in this thread. I already had a few just from the demo.

I noticed those achievement things in the PC demo, does the full game on PC have them too? If so, weird (but BCR had them, too).

Yeah, I'm almost certain that means the weapons from the demo. Pistol, uzi, shotgun, auto-shotgun, hunting rifle, assault rifle, chain gun, pipe bomb, molatov...gas can? Or did I forget a weapon? XD

That's why I was asking. I thought it said ten NEW weapons. I must have misread it.

Pipe bomb.

Pipe bomb.

Mentioned it.

*tried* to get through No Mercy on expert. We got to the sewers, not sure how far we were into it either.. but we were getting slaughtered.

There are soundfiles for: auto-shotgun, dual pistols, hegrenade (pipebomb), hunting rifle, minigun, molotov, pistol, rifle, shotgun and smg.
So I guess thats what they meant with 10 weapons.

My group wiped on that hospital rooftop part over 10 times (only advanced lol). We can down the tank, but the hordes after that are brutal. What strats did you guys use there?

Beat No Mercy on Advanced with 3 other randoms. All used voice and were cool people. We had the leader, the jack ass, me, and the quiet guy. Took us 5 tries, but all 4 survived. 3 Tanks!!!! At the end there was a smoker, hunter, and tank... propane tanks only go so far.

Amazing game.

Where are all those videos we were promised? I didn't see any through out the game. I thought there was one between each chapter.

So awesome. They nailed. It gets so much harder than the Demo. Longer levels make health and ammo hard to come by in certain playthroughs. AI Director aka Gabe N. is a freaking bastard. Just played a Normal No mercy with randoms and had 3 tanks at the finale.

Keep high ground. That roof above the mini gun is great. The zombies have to climb to get to you, and thus you can smack em down and shoot. Try not to spread out unless there's a Tank, then every one spread out and concentrate fire and when he's down, go back up. Always try and keep high ground.

This game is incredibblllleeeee

Also, versus is hard as hell for BOTH teams. :lol You really have to work your ass off and have amazing teamwork to succeed.

So...my bro wants to buy the 360 version so he can communicate with all the little shitheads and griefers.

So i think fuck it i'm going to go ahead and buy it on Steam anyway. He wants the shyte version, he can buy it himself.

Is there a GAF steam group for this, and how do i get invited?

so how is this for a strat:

Let the boomer slime a teammate, then have them stand in corner and rest of team body-block him from the zombies. Havent had a chance to try it, but I think it might work and seems like the most efficient way of clearing out the zombies in an area while taking minimum damage

Yeah, Expert is beyond brutal now.

Switched to Advanced just so I could see the end of No Mercy. And the random players I was with were kinda clueless.

"Guys, we can't stand on the top of the roof when the tank comes. He's gonna knock us all off."

"We know! We'll get off when he comes."

Cue Tank. All my teammates flame any possible exit.

"Uh, guys, how are we gonna get off the roof now?"

"Lolzdontknow!"

We all get flung off to our deaths in a single flaming roided Tank slap.

Yeah, in the demo they seemed to target the barf-ee, so if you get barfed on, get in a corner and have the others surround who got barfed on and kill the zombies. They just run past the other players.

Yeah, three of us were huddled up on top of that turret building, with the other chucking grenades from the side buildings (if they spawned). Best we managed to do is kill the first Tank and survive for another 2-3 minutes. We also tried distracting the Tank to draw him out to the middle for turret fire, but gave up on that after our decoy got pulled in and killed by a Smoker we missed. Good times.

This game is fucking AWESOME!

I saw the huge explosion too in No Mercy - I can't wait to see shit like that happen in other maps.

Was anyone else blown away when they first got to the top of Mercy Hospital? I never expected to see anything like that in this game.

The first time we did the No Mercy finale, we were fighting for what seemed like AGES, half our team was dead and the radio comes on. "Ok, 7 minutes left to go! Just hold on!"

"7 minutes?! FUCK."

We do this all the time, I survived multiple barfs with no damage taken. It's also important to shove and shoot.

We tried a whole ton of shit on top of the hospital. What ended up working best was holing up in the staircase, two per door, and using it as a choke point. Then take care of the tank and repeat. We "beat it" with two NPC's right after a couple people called it a night. I say "beat it" because the only person to survive was Louis the NPC.

Versus is so awesome. I was the tank on the last part of the campaign and knocked two of the surviors off the roof. I was laughing for like 5 minutes afterwards.
