The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

Hah, I was so hyped for the Lord of the Rings Online expansion that I forgot L4D comes out today too!!

:lol

And L4D beat LOTRO to the punch so... L4D for tonight! (or, at least, until LOTRO's servers are back up..)

EDIT: Well, thanks to the decrypting of L4D, LOTRO won out the battle for my time tonight. :lol
 
Woah, with one of my last play throughs of the demo today, I managed on 4 player co-op, on expert, to recieve no damage throughout the entire 1.5 levels. I made it to both safe areas with my full health and my original med pack, and a bottle of unused pills I carried since the first level, and no I didn't sit back either, but it was tough to pull it off but I made it.


Also, can you guys if you talk about the areas in the levels, cover it with spoilers, I'm can't get the game until black Friday and I don't want to know of any other areas before hand, thx.
 
So uh, I started the game and it just sits at "Preparing to launch Left 4 Dead..." Nothing is happening :/

EDIT: nvm, finally the updating box came up.

It's doing some sort of update or install or something most likely.
 
Finally done with decrypting... Time for... more waiting!

EDIT: Oh yea, why am I complaining. This will take like 2 minutes for me.

Well, I tried to re-do the friends list showing everyone on the screen playing L4D, but I screwed up the copy/paste and overwrote it. Top guy is a total CS freak, don't know about bottom guy.

Wonder if I should lock the demo thread now that it's over and to avoid confusion of posting in that thread on accident.
 
L4D sure is a rollercoaster..... just gotta wait through a couple long lines of Decryptions Patches and the search for a Dedicated server.

My roommate and I (we're in the same freakin' building, so there's really no excuse for connection issues) were planning on playing this together all night, but neither of us can join the other's game without a "Connection failed after 10 retries" message.

Doesn't matter who's hosting, or if it's dedicated or local, either.

Such bullshit... it worked flawlessly in the demo. I wasn't planning on doing network troubleshooting all night. :/
 
well........gives up, got excited for nothing.

All this time and now I cant even get into the game :(

It looks like it's downloading the entire game again after I already preloaded it. It has been a good 30min now, and it's barely going anywhere.

I'll just wait till morning where hopefully it will be done.

Just played through the first 3 acts of No Mercy.

Can't believe how much better this game looks on my cheap-ass PC compared to my 360. Apparently no one told Valve PC gaming is dead. :D
 
Shit that's fun.

Can't find a server to save my life though. Finally hosted one myself, it seemed fine and my group was pretty fun (started on No Mercy so we were mainly silent and just ran through it, everyone had played the demo) but then I got disconnected from Steam. :( Shitty, it kicks me back to my Steam window but I'm still online and everything looks normal.

I'll play more tomorrow I'm sure. Maybe a day or two will give the servers a chance to catch their breath (not likely, all Valve games with hosted servers or that rely on Valve servers for matchmaking or whatever seem a bit under-served compared to console games).

Will the 360 version be in stores tomorrow, or is this going to be another case of shipped versus street dated. I couldn't get a clear answer from my local gamestop or best buy.
 
No mercy is pretty fun, advanced seems to be the right difficulty. Normal is too easy and Expert is for those who enjoy camping and have the layout of the level memorized. Alas, a 10 AM class means I must hit the sack early.
 
Just woke up, have to be at work in two-three hours. Should I play now, or wait until I get back? I want to play this so bad, right now, ughhhhh.
 
This is ridiculous. I preloaded the entire game and now theres some absolutely massive update I have to download, it feels like i'm downloading the entire game again which I do not have the bandwidth for. Steams update system is complete garbage, it doesn't even tell me the file size of what i'm supposed to be downloading.

That's strange, that update was under a minute for me. The decrypting definitely took a while, though, as did the game defrag that I was oddly recommended to do afterwards. Never had that happen with a newly installed game on Steam.
