I have portal, HL2-all, and TF2. None are indicators of this game.
It's the same engine and has similar performance requirements.

I get identical performance in L4D as I do in TF2. Admittedly, TF2 looks a lot better, but that's mostly the art. I get the same fps and similar graphical effects.

Anyways, if you have a computer better than my 3.5-year-old laptop with a GeForce 6800, you're set.

My first full length Versus game was awesome. Thanks to whoever was participating. Good times.
Versus annoys me.

I thought it was going to be just campaign mode with drop-in/drop-out enemies, and I have to say, that would be a vast improvement. I hate being switched back and forth so often. I love playing either side, but just when I get into the groove of things, I get swapped.

I mean, it's still great. Just really annoying.

Which will last me more on the "PC"? This Game or cod4? Played cod4 and i love it. Also played the demo of l4d love it aslo. Which is more fun cod4 or L4D and last me longer, both online, on the PC.

I think the reason versus is the way it is, is because the vast majority of people would want to play as the infected since the campaign mode is survivors only. Remember with Valve, everything has been thought of and playtested.

Anyway, anyone on PC wanna team up for 4 and try the expert achievement on No Mercy? You can't die (I believe you can be incapacitated though). It's very hard, I believe it can be done with bots, but I'd rather do it the way it was intended.

I bought this game for the 360 and will buy this in about six months for the PC. Once the mods start rolling in and Valve drops the price. I will purchase this game twice. Just like I did for TF2.

It's so you don't have to wait an hour to play as the other side. Considering the drop in/drop out nature of things, the sides wouldn't even be the same people by the time the teams swapped.

Also, its so you can get bloody revenge on the other team and do to them what they did to you.

Also because you can't be expected to normally reach the safe house, so you'd be teleporting forward every time you died.

Wow, so I just finished an online game of Dead Air with randoms, we did awesome right up until the finale.

The last swarm involved a tank that killed two of us plus an absolute mob of zombies, by the time I finish killing the tank I'm just completely surrounded and screwed. As I drop, our last guy (who has about 10 health, in pain medication no less) bolts for the plane and barely escapes. :D Awesome.

Well I'm not going to buy the game until they put it back up. I don't want to be strong-armed into buying it just to try it out.

Edit: And this is coming from someone who has loved every game that Valve has put out.

Well then you will love this, and I highly doubt they will put the demo back up. Maybe you could rent it?

You shouldn't feel strong armed about anything when there's 100 pages of posts saying how awesome this game is. Not every game gets a demo you know?

Though I realize it's a matter of principle and respect your opinion on the matter.

I wouldn't say a week qualifies as "a while." But maybe that's just me.

ah well. they wont release another demo. and you're not being strong armed... the demo was out for a while.

it's embarrassing to look @ my counter... 27.4 hours so far. sheesh.

There has to be SOME way for them to put a demo up that's restricted to specific maps, right?

Left 4 Dead is a great game, and it shouldn't be missed, but there has to be some way to resolve the demo issue so that everyone can give it a shot without any monetary risk.

So intentional or not?

Hahaha, Crooked Rain's ledge thing worked for me on the second try. I grabbed Bill and made him hang over, then the guy that came to rescue him got knocked over the ledge by a Hunter (vertopci?), then he pounced the third person. They had a LOT of health too at that point, I figured only a Tank was going to keep them from winning. It all happened within about 5 seconds it seemed too. It just ALL went wrong for the other team as soon as I ensnared the Bill player.

Played my first game of versus tonight. Not a fan so far. This may or may not have something to do with the fact that the score was like 500-2500 against my team.

I get way better performance from Left 4 Dead than TF2 considering how much crap is on the screen...

Most people on my friends list played 5-15 hours of Left4Dead demo.
I suspect the primary reason why they removed it might be that they fear that people will play the demo endlessly and never buy the game. I certainly have done that at least once. I know people who do that regularly. Depends on the sort of game it is.

They could probably limit the levels that can be loaded fairly easily.

Do you seriously have to ask? Of course it's intentional.

Edit: Is there a launch option (like -novid) to tell the program to only run on a single core? Every time I load the game up it's set to run on both cores despite me turning off the 2nd core more than once now.

Go into the options menu in the game, and one of them is about dual cores. Maybe that would work, but I've never done anything with it.

Oh god, was that the game I was in? You sneaky so-and-sos. We probably would have been able to get to the safe room if you hadn't pounced us.

I'm sure some of the Valve sycophants will defend this, but it is just straight up weak.

I mean I don't really care because I already own the game and it is easily GOTY2008, but still. I feel for any man on the fence who can't make up his mind because Valve can't figure a way to make the demo just two levels.

Facte, or like break one episode up and charge $5 or something for it. Lotsa ways to get it in to peoples hands for a little to no cost :(

Was playing a verses match earlier today and finally noticed in one of the load screens a mention on the Hunters. HOLY SHIT. I had no idea you could fucking leap off of walls, so much fun, if ya get spotted before you can hit one of the survivors you can literally just pinball off of walls until they lose track of you.:lol SO AWESOME!

So versus mode fucking rocks, but the scoring system is borked. If you don't finish a level - which is very tough to do regardless of skill after the first chapter - your earned points are essentially meaningless.

I think you should get the majority of your points based on the percentage of the level finished, with a 200-300 point bonus for finishing. Right now, you get 1000+ bonus for finishing and only 100-200 based on your percentage.

It was such a great compelling demo. It was right up there with the BF1942 demo, or Q3Test. The kind of demo that gets you excited as hell about a game.

Can't think of any reason Valve wouldn't want people playing the demo. Easily the best way to advertise the game to prospective buyers.
Those demos being so good is precisely the problem - so many people who loved the game never felt they needed to buy the full one.

With Left 4 Dead, it'd be even worse because it's so easy to add custom maps to it.

Free weekends and guest passes are the much smarter way to go for undecideds with this game.

Wait, what is crooked rain's "ledge thing" ?

On level 4 of No Mercy, at the part under construction, you let the humans get ahead of you near the start. Then, you get by a ledge and pull someone from behind so they get pulled over a ledge and need help getting up. Super fast incapacitation. I'll take a picture next time I'm there.

Crooked Rain got me with it yesterday, then as PillowKnight tried to grab me up, he got pulled by CR, then the other humans got knocked down too as we were dangling.

vertopci had a common sense idea that I didn't think about to get more points; when you reach the safe room, heal up with a med kit before closing the door to get more of a health bonus for more points, too. :lol

I still think the best game I had was when neither team ever made it to the safe room on any of the levels; the final score was like 364 to 289 or something.

Ah, here it is:

Played all night long again tonight, all Versus mode. Played for about an hour on PC and then like 6 and a half hours on Xbox. It's so amazing. GOTY.

I just discovered this today. I took out three guys using this strategy . Works best when someone else distracts them.

Works similarly right when they get off the ladder in chapter 5. If you get them just right, you can instakill at least one of them, but it's not easy to get away, so you might only get one. But it's usually enough.

Upgrades are awesome.

My old gaming PC died on Friday (AMD64 2800, 1GB RAM and 9800Pro 128MB). I was playing L4D at 1024 * 768 with everything on low and still hovering around or under 30fps - I didn't actually check, just what it felt like.

So I bought some second hand parts off my mate (Intel E5200 2.5ghz dual core, 4GB RAM and 8800GT OC 512MB). Now I'm playing at 1280 * 1024 - native res of my LCD - with evertything maxed including 4x AA all while seemingly running at twice the FPS of my old setup.

Playing on Versus as survivor on the rooftop of Mercy, we're going okay at first, waiting for the chopper. Then Zoey gets pulled away by a smoker and devoured by a Hunter. I hear a tank coming, a boomer blinds me, I hear someone get pulled by a smoker. I run towards him, kill the smoker and free Louis. Then, with my vision clear, I see the tank smash down upon me. It knocks Louis to the ground, then me. Bill is covering us from above. Francis and I shoot at the tank from the ground; it kills Louis. I continue to blast at it and tell Bill to get to the chopper. The tank runs after him. Halfway across, a smoker grabs him. Then a hunter snatches it from the smoker and starts tearing out his innards. The tank accidently knocks the hunter off of Bill in an attempt to smash him. The tank knocks Bill back and forth across the roof, but then he kills it due to it being injured before. He shotguns the Hunter, shotguns the Smoker. The chopper buzzes overhead him and he furiously limps across the map with a shitload of zombies chasing him and just manages to jump onto the chopper before they catch him.

just played through the dev commentary for the first movie. not bad...

i can't wait to see the mods released by the community. it seems adding things that usually would be difficult is super easy... this game will live on for quite a while.

Well, it didn't help that he and I played through all 4 campaigns from about 330AM-1PM or so, and then I took a nap for about 4 hours, then ended up staying awake from that evening until the next night.
