It's worthless to me.
There is no mouse support on 360. And I don't have Xbox Live Gold.

If Microsoft would have fixed those two problems, I would have bought it for 360 instead, but they are crippling to this game. (And many others.)

I'd really much prefer to play the Xbox version, but sadly, due to Microsoft policy, it's worthless.
You bought the system knowing you would have to pay for online. Im sure there is little worth in an online game you cant play online.

i did join the group, and i've tried joining some of the games from the 'join' option, but often times either the server will be full or i'll be put on the other team because they are already partied with other gaffers.

is it any different if they are friended?

edit: also, just clicking join, you cant tell if they are playing campaign or versus w/ the group browser

If somebody is on your friends list, there is a separate window in game that details all of the specifics about their current game; mode, stage, and how full it is. Being in a group is no substitute for having people on your friends list.

While the Steam interface was sufficient for CS or TF2, it just doesn't cut it with L4D's small group size or long duration. It really needs an upgrade.

Serious Feature Request: Valve, please add a clock somewhere. I started playing around 1AM with the intent to only play a few quick matches; 5AM rolls around and I realize I should have been in bed hours ago.

Anyway, playing with fellow Gaffers really makes the game. The average people I get on Quick Match are just too stupidly competitive. Yes, you're right, the single solitary bullet from my pistol was purposefully shot at you and not the zombies swarming around you. And, yes, I did intentionally pounce the survivor you were constricting as the Smoker and was not aiming for the other survivor immediately behind him. Please do call a vote for my ban from the server.

That is what has been great about the people I've played with from Gaf, everyone just tries their best and tries to get as far as they can.

I understand why Valve is pushing matchmaking on the PC end without server lists now. If you don't have a group of friends to play this game with, it's a pain in the butt looking for adequate games through the server list (at least for co-op). While people might disagree with me, at least they were smart enough to include server lists so that everyone is happy (well almost everyone...)

Yeah that would be nice ...This happens to me all the time with TF2..

Is there a list of people with the 360 version? I got it yesterday and I'd like to play with people tonight...

I agree, actually. I've never been a huge fan of server lists to begin with, honestly, but I do understand that they work very well for certain types of games. The major problems I've had with getting into, for example, Team Fortress 2 are 1) I don't know what I'm getting into on random servers (Is this a group of experienced friends? Is this some serious competition?) and 2) I don't want to unintentionally grief someone because I'm unfamiliar with the game.

Ideally, Valve should work to offer both match making and server-browsing.

Had a complete blast playing with GAFers on Live tonight.

The game is really really good, I love co-op and this is best 4player co-op ever.

We've been playing on Advanced then we get to the last stage and after a few tried a vote to normal always happens :lol

Great, great games guys!

I'm surprised at how hard this game is. I'm playing with 2 of my friends, we are all very 'skilled' gamers. And yet even after playing for many hours yesterday we still haven't finished the first stage. We've been playing on expert, but we tried advanced after hours of not getting anywhere, and went worse! We've made it to the hospital... Hopefully we can get through it today.

It's lots of fun. But I'm not entirely enjoying the monster placement. It seems like most times we die it's because the game put a special zombie in the worst place it could possibly be put. Like a tank in a tiny little sewer section that he shouldn't even be able to fit in.

The game is effin awesome on 360. It's very smooth, has great split screen, dedicated servers for lag-less online play (both co-op and competitive), most people have headsets so communication is easy and helps a lot, the maps are all fun to play again and again. Just buy it and add me MercuryLS :D
+1

Played a bunch with GAFfers recently and it's been awesome. Tons of fun on a great co-op game. I haven't even tried competitive yet.

The AI director can truly be brutal..

Last night on the hospital roof the director decided that I shouldn't survive.

The sequence of events is as follows (advanced)
1)Boomer spits on me- handled
2)Smoker get me while my teammates are fending off the horde in another direction- I get saved
3)Hunter pounces on me- saved
4) Boomer again spits on me
5) Hunter pounces on me before I can heal
6) Tank shows up and kills me.

I can't believe people complain about the lack of difficulty in this game. It's brutal at times.

other than playing on expert.. you being a group of skilled gamers should at LEAST allow you to finish a campaign on advanced.

however, just get used to mass zombicide; youll get the hang of the maps in no time. expert is for the extra-sadistic challenge that you need when you can breeze through levels with pistols and stuff like that.

What's the best way to take out a tank without having you or one of your teammates getting pinned down by him?

Molotov and circle strafe. Whoever he is chasing should just run, use obstacles and high ground to get away, while the others keep shooting it in the back/head.

Man I love the source engine, its just ridiculously optimized by this point. My laptop with an 8800M GTS runs it maxed out at 1440x900, 16x AF, 16x AA, all high settings, very high shaders, vsync on.

I'm running a 7800 GTX @ 1600x1000 4X AA / 2X AF / maxed out settings and it runs 50-60fps most the time, however whenever there's a lot of zombies it tends to drop down into the high 20's especially if my flashlight is on, It still feels smoother than 360's version (which is locked at 30fps) but I have a EVGA GTX 260 216 core video-card on the way, I'm stoked to see how much better L4D runs on it :D

Yep, and also make sure you're not grouping together with other people, at least not too closely, so he can only really go after one person (which he'll sometimes do regardless, the asshole). Lighting the Tank on fire either by molotov or gas canister works wonders.

Ok, WTF is going on with steam? Every time I try to install this game it says my Steam ticket expired and it asks me to enter my password again and it never gets installed. Has anyone ever encountered problems like this with steam?

Just beat Death Toll on Expert (I was the only one to die, and it was at the very end).

I haven't received any achievements for beating any campaigns, though :/

Had a great couple versus matches with a few gaffers. amazing hard to win as survivors, but my side was able to win almost all of em....

Had a really nice Versus game earlier, managed to take an entire team out when they decided to use a car as cover :lol Love how quickly it can all turn to shit for the survivors.

me and two other of my friends just beat the death toll finale on advance after trying for at least 3 hours yesterday and 2 hours today:lol all four survivors survived too,we were all so hyped when we beat it. this is a fucking awesome game to play with friends. ppl playing with bots are not getting the full experience at all.

and one more note; perfectly timed pipe bombs are your friend, especially in the finale.

Make sense.
Just because Left4Dead isn't worth it on the Xbox doesn't mean that other titles aren't too. I'm quite pleased with titles like Guitar Hero 2, Dead Rising, Marble Blast Ultra and Braid.

To be honest, I do have another 6 months worth of free Xbox Live, but if I wanted to play Left4Dead sporadically over the next few years (after completing it within those six months), I'd have to resubscribe to Xbox Live every time. What a pain!

In my opinion, that makes it not worth it. And that's what the question was asking. Do you think the Xbox 360 version is worth it? "No, I do not."

Just for you, I'll add "And I knew that when I bought my Xbox that Left4Dead probably wouldn't be worth it on the Xbox."

I really gotta play this game with only people on my friendlist, these random people are completely unpredictable. Of course, I guess that's what makes them random. One guy shuttered the game off to his little kid brother mid-game, and another yelled "cunt" like fifteen times at everybody for not playing up to his standards.

I'm going to start an advanced run through on X360, add me if you want to play.

GT is MercuryLS

Only headset wearing peeps that know how to play as a team need apply.

well mercury is in a game already, but i asked madmook

Jesus this game is fucking hard. I was playing this with 2 other people and one CPU controlled character on the first "movie." We played the last stage on top of the
hospital
forever. We finally beat it and we ended up with a zombie count of a little over 4000!!! Plus, WE WERE PLAYING ON NORMAL. I can't even imagine how hard this game is on the upper difficulties.

Wow. The highest I've gotten on advanced is only like 2500. You must've had some bloodbaths! :lol
