The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

So i heard on a podcast that the instruction manual provides back stories for the characters. Problem is, the PC version (at least mine) didnt come with one. Is it available online somewhere?

Just had a good Death Toll campaign with Daigoro, sonicspear, and Rogue 5. Everybody lived at the end (took a couple tries), and they all got cr0wnd as well. Sorry about my ping being crappy early on and stuff.

yeah, that was a lot of fun guys. thanks for playing.

Im still getting this strange lag when throwing items like molotovs. Its not internet lag either.

Sometimes the sound gets slightly out of sync for me (my pistol will fire, and I'll hear the sound like 0.5-1.0 seconds later), but that's about it.

Ok, my housemate got this yesterday, so i'm getting gold today and will be playing on xbox live tomorrow this time. Add me if you wanna play, but warning, I might be a lil rusty at first but i'll play solo for a bit before going online.

Woo! That patch must have helped me in some way or another, because I just earned Zombicidal Maniac (Survive any campaign on Expert) on Dead Air. These completion achievements never worked for me in coop, I suspect it's less of a problem now.

Ended up on a VS game where on the finale as infected, our second tank didn't spawn anywhere or something. So, of course, the survivor team could not finish.

Yeah, we had a crappy teammate though. He just was deaf or something, and left us hanging and ran off. :(

What's the deal with that? Every game I've played in. There's always one guy that just consistently strays from the group. Either the guy runs ahead or gets lost wandering for hidden supplies.

Yeah, one point they got barfed on (not me) and I was being pulled by a smoker. I know you can't tell if someone is being attacked by a special infected if you got vomited on so I'm like "Hey! In front of you! Shoot! I'm being pulled!" He stands there for a sec, turns around, and runs away. Then I have to keep going "Hey! Someone help!" Eventually the guy who was being pinned down by the gun fought through a huge horde to save me. Yeesh.

Every time i throw a pipe bomb or a molotov the thing sort of stutters for a seccond. Its bizarre. My disk isnt scracthed. The game plays fine. it doesnt really bother me enough to not play it or anything its just strange.

Poor fallen and his stutter crashes. ):

We ended up beating expert death toll with all four of us (me, fallengorn, Sciz, and JoeF) alive, but right before the boat arrived, he crashed. Literally two feet from the boat. So sad.

):

Also, even though DT is the only campaign I hadn't beaten on expert until now, I didn't get the cheesemint. SO SAD INDEED.

I'll see if I can pick you up a box of cheesemints tomorrow night?

I dunno, seemed like you guys were pretty well coordinated from our side. Or at least about as well coordinated as us; both teams kept wiping at roughly the same spots.

We trumped them in points on that round anyway, since our first tank smashed them. Not the first time I've heard of that bug though, so I'm surprised it made it through playtesting.

And yeah, poor Fallen. I know what it's like to have a Source game crash all the time (hello, Episode One), but it has to suck exponentially more in a multiplayer game.

Good game regardless. We managed to take out most of the tanks, sometimes without taking any damage, didn't disturb any witches, generally had a good amount of supplies on hand, minimal friendly fire incidents, etc.

I still was amused on stage 3, when I was the Tank. I just stood there so you wouldn't hear me stomping around and then busted out the windows in the building. I hope I surprised at least one person :lol

No kidding, we didn't have a clue where you were. And whichever one of you jerks was the tank on the hospital map punched me off the side of the building. >:(

my vent buddies need a chewy, satisfying challenge on no mercy - anyone who can get a team together in the next 15 mins, steam me (ghst).

When someone is constricted by a smoker, what exactly will free them? I know that hitting them with meele will free them, as will damaging the smoker. Does it free them if you shoot at the victim? What about at the tongue?

Shoot the toungue, shoot the smoker, melee the victim.

Oh yeah, the other fun thing about that Death Toll run was that we heard a couple of rare conversations that none of us had run across before. One between Francis and Louis at the beginning of the second map, and another at the finale when Francis answered the radio ("This is the police. We order you to come pick us up!" "Huh? Honey, did you hear that? It's the police!").

:lol

:lol Heard a nice one in the No Mercy elevator:

Bill: "Zombie apocalypse"... this is nothing compared to the Great Zombie Attack of '57.
Zoey: What?
Bill: Ahh, I'm just kidding.

I imagine they will, as they've constantly added new dialog for Team Fortress 2.
Not as often or as much as I'd really like; what little they have added is mostly for the Heavy. I'd love a constant flow of new L4D dialogue as much as the next guy, but I suspect we'll largely have to be content with the good variety they've included from the getgo.

Man what a funny finale of No Mercy Versus.

So we were fighting against this team as the infected. For whatever reason, the second tank glitched out and never came. So we knew it was glitched, but the other team didn't. They started going around looking for it, and as time wore on we decided to screw with their heads. So we start the typically fighting each other, dancing around... and then we send em a message saying "we come in peace, meet us by the health packs."

So it's a bunch of zombies and the four survivors, staring at each other. Just sitting in the room over tea. And then, what would you expect a zombie to do? We finish our tea with a serving of brains, and we collapsed on them on cue.

LOLs were had, return message "wtf?"

Best line from Louis:

"Bill, Zoey, when we get out of here, I'm hooking you up with jobs. Francis, I'ma teach your ass how to read!"

Does anyone have a list of the Damage each of the weapons inflicts? I tend to stick to shotguns all the time but I would be interested to see what weapons are effective against Tanks etc.

I would love some more various assault rifles, pistols etc.

Oh and a Wild West movie with Zombies...and cowboy hats. :lol

So I've been playing Versus mode. This morning I was in a good group. Our group had over 1000 points and the other team had somewhere around 200. I had thought that the people on my team kept switching sides. My group didn't survive the finale but the other team did. My score ended up with 400 while the other team had 3000. I had thought that the other team raked points by surviving. That leaves me to wonder, where the eff did my 1000 points go?

Apparently the game switched me to the other side during the finale stage. It might be that I load way slow(playing at 1920x1200) and someone jumped over to my winning team. Valve seriously needs to fix this, I hear some people get booty bumped and sometimes they have to play as survivor twice.

:lol I have got to find out how to activate that line.
Hilarious. I think that's elevator chit-chat. When the player's health is low enough, the character starts whistling nervously.

edit: "Oh no, the zombies killed god!" -Zoey

Would love a couple more people on my friend's list playing L4D. Playing with randoms sucks.

The first one in the safehouse of ST level 2 was as follows (I can't remember the exact wording).

Louis: [something about pipes]
Francis: (paraphrased) How do you know so much about pipes?
Louis: Loooong, but true story, blah blah blah...
Francis: You know what? I just realized I don't care.

Grr, which I could remember more of the words. At any rate, <3 Louis.

JoeFu pointed out that he's pretty similar to Gus from Psych. I love Gus from Psych, but I've never made the connection before. He's right! Now I know why I love Louis!

Anybody know if Valve has announced when they're releasing the official FGD files for this game (so we start seeing "real" user-made levels)?
