I even sucked it up and managed to cr0wn a witch for the first time, and on my first try, too.

How do you do this? I´m assuming you must get the sniper and just shoot her in the head without disturbing?

we almost got the do not disturb achievement the other night but some dick left his light on in the corn field and woke her up right before the finale. last witch in the game.

Nah, shotgun to the back of the head. Gotta wait for just the right moment before unloading, though.

Game needs party-system style matchmaking.
It's nigh impossible to get a good / consistent game of your 4 vs. a full team of 4 on the 360.

I want to form my party of 4 and have it search / find someone else's party of 4.
More competition, better team strategies, etc. I hate playing against a random team made up of random singles that mostly quit out throughout the course of the match.

The PC centric approach does not do itself any favors on consoles.
Server browsing is totally and completely overrated.

Anyone want to make a headset recommendation for me? I'd like something comfortable with a good microphone, preferably not overly expensive. Durability is a plus, too. I don't know much about headsets, so I don't have much to go off of.

Highlight of the night last night playing with some friends:

"There's a witch near the copy machine!!!"

:lol

Game is glorious. What a fun co-op experience!

The problem is we're all 4 trying to get the achievement at the same time so we have to get through the finale without any one of us dying. The hordes are no problem, a group can easily get through those without using any exploits. The tanks though are a different story, surviving 2 tank attacks without losing a single member is a bitch and a half.
Et tu, EazyB?

Pro-tip: the right trigger is the shoot, just like in Halo.

BONUS EDIT: I should probably be friendly here and point out that 'What Are You Trying to Prove?' doesn't require you to be alive at the end of a campaign/finale/rescue/whatever, provided at least one of you makes it. 'Zombicidal Maniac' does require you to be alive at the end (technically, I think it's to be alive at the moment the rescue arrives), but once you have that achievement the you can happily die on the remainder of your Expert finales, as long as one person makes it.

played this online today on live for the first time today, trying to do some campaigns on advanced

on the computer I could do advanced campaigns in single player

playing with random people on live? couldn't finish one.

I need to get in on it with you guys soon

people quitting in versus is such a fucking epidemic, i like playing versus, but 98% of the time people leave after every map

it's so fun when you can actually finish a whole campaign

Playing a versus game with all friends is great.

They should just make a new versus mode where you play as either the infected or the survivors - not both.

Give some new achievements for this game mode to give the survivors more incentive.

Hell I'd appreciate it just because I could play a one hour long versus match rather than some of the two hour ones I've had.

I was thinking if installing L4D on my HDD but I wanted to know there was any noticeable difference between having it installed and just running it off the disc.

Is this confirmed?

I can confirm that I made progress up to 3/4 when I was dead for all three.

Only one I have left is Death Toll. But last time I beat it on expert (and survived even!!) it didn't count. Soooo.

It's pretty iffy all around. I wouldn't trust empirical data at this point, since it seems to be completely fucking random.

:lol There are some interesting exploits on the 360 version that allow you to circumvent the requirements of going through an entire campaign for some achievements.

Excellent Versus games tonight, aside from fallen crashing all the time and the occasional team swapping. It's been a while since I've been able to be effective as a tank, felt good. :D

Fun indeed....

This game is making me an insomiac

Because keeping this primitive version to a small circle seems more trouble than it's worth. A playthrough won't show much beyond a layout and direction for the map, but whateva. There'll at least be some zombies to shoot, and you can help me out with feedback.

1) Unzip both files and put them into your Left 4 Dead maps folder (Something like C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\maps)
2) Load a regular single player mission, then type "changelevel l4d_eastcity02_cityoutskirts"
3) Enter "sv_cheats 1" (without quotation marks) into the console when you start the map to get the regular zombie spawning to work
4) Use the vote system to change to Expert (Seriously, too easy at the moment)

Known issues:

  • Seams (bloody everywhere :()
  • Spots on the map you can get stuck in (craters mostly)
  • No textures/props/etc (I'm waiting for an SDK release to remedy all this)
  • No skybox (It's a HL2 skybox, but apparently won't show up in L4D unless you copy over material folders)

I dislike the idea that in most corridors, the exit is at the end. Might be more realistic for the buildings you have in mind but look at the Hospital or the Sewer of No Mercy. It's a labyrinth mostly and makes for much more interesting games when you're not holding W and mouse1.

Otherwise shows a lot of promise. I want to do one but it'll probably be Summer when I get enough time to really put into a map.

Thanks for the advice :)

I think the linear corridors work for the building with the bunch of holes in it, but I could do much more with the large warehouse-style building. Maybe some more offices or something.

I got the PC version during the Steam sale, and No Mercy Rooftop in Versus is nothing like it is on 360. On the 360, the weapons and health are in the bottom room under the turret, and everyone turtles there and it fucking sucks. On PC, all of the health and weapons are on the top of the room, next to the turret, and it's fucking awesome. The way the map is played changes entirely. I still haven't had a PC Versus group turtle in that bottom room, and I love it.

PC version wins just for that.

Yes, but has anybody used the Alamo ramp on you yet? :lol

Only on 360 so far.

Really, I find that on PC, people are usually civil about exploits and bullshit, even if everyone sounds like a fucking nerd and rages against everyone for not being rescued fast enough. If someone tries the No Mercy wall punch on the Sewers, both teams will rally against that person.

On 360, a whole team will just jump in on it and no one on either side says shit about it. On 360, you get a forklift in front of your elevator or kids hanging out under the Rooftop ramp every other game.

I only play Blood Harvest Versus on 360 now.

Just had an AMAZING versus match in Blood Harvest. It was me and a bunch of friends and one random guy and my team was owning.... until we got to the finale. Our team was up by around 1000 and 3 of us beat the finale. When it was the other team's turn none of them wanted to play anymore because as they stated, "we can't win... maybe if we all survive with almost full health." To our surprise they destroyed both our tanks and somehow all 4 of them survived. It's crazy how close the game was, take a look:

Yes, once the second tank is dead during the finale, you can die.

So once I kill the second Tank, all 4 of us can die and we'll still get "What Are You Trying To Prove"?

So you've beaten Blood Harvest finale on Expert already? What tips do you have?

Obviously, you need one person to get to the rescue vehicle.

You playing on PC? Differing load speeds on PC can make it random, yes, but the 360 is fairly solid.

Trust me, Domino. On our first Expert run I died on the first tank of No Mercy, but my friends finished it and I got 1/4 of What Are You Trying to Prove? but no Zombicidal Maniac. Next time I survived all the way and got my Zombicidal Maniac, but even though only two of us lived through that one, all four of us had 2/4 afterwards. WAYTTP? only requires you to play each of the campaigns to completion on Expert; it doesn't care whether you are alive in the rescue vehicle as long as someone is.

I got Zombicidal Maniac when I got incapped like right outside the chopper on the No Mercy finale on expert, so I guess it can count as long as you're alive when the rescue happens.

I think the exact cut off for ZM is being alive when the second tank goes down and the 'get to the rescue vehicle' prompt goes up. But once you've got that achievement you don't have to worry about surviving to get WAYTTP?, provided at least one person makes it all the way to finish the campaign.

I got the achievement same way; no mercy, got incapacitated just before others got to the chopper. Still got the achievement. :P

It's such a shame that Valve hasn't fixed the 360 version yet. It's so full of glitches and bugs that people seem to start playing less Versus matches. The roadblocks, alamo ramp, smoker-instadeaths and tank glitches. I don't understand why fixing the 360 version takes so long, when the PC users seem to be treated like royalty? Dirty console peasants indeed. :(

It's nearly impossible to play Blood Harvest more than one stage, people keep quitting after stage 1. It's getting boring to play No Mercy all the time.

Just dropped in to say how much I appreciate the scalability of this game on PC. On my Lenovo Thinkpad business laptop w/ low-end quadro card (slight step above onboard video at most), I get about a 50 fps average at these settings:

1280x800, high for textures, decals and models, no AA and low AF. no Vsync. Turning off Vsync is the key to high fps on my low-end lappy (probably due to the mere 128mb video). The screen tear can be bad at times but you stop noticing it after a minute. This allows silky smooth response which this kind of game requires.

And, sans PQ, it still looks pretty damn close to how it looks on my high end configged desktop (because of high textures and models and good art). The fps are mostly 45-55 and only occasionally drops as low as 27 or 28.
