Potatomasher and I really could have carried out a night of full on text l4d gay porn, but it's only a Monday night.

Maybe tomorrow.

So checking under the friends tab in L4D, there's a some dude who comes up who I don't know. Apparently he's on my LAN. Does everyone who play on my network show up under friends even if they aren't on my friend list?

I could have done without the tech support, but I was amused overall.

Related informal GAF poll: Is there a gameplay difference between pick-up groups and private games Y/N?

That was your crew? No wonder you guys and pillowknight were so confrontational when I first stepped in. :lol

I thought you guys seemed almost a little too organized during the finale.
Aye, 2-1! We almost had em though, maybe next time.

I have photographic evidence that can settle this debate.

I'm finally gonna be free again early next week. Finally time for badass L4D again. Woo.

Sorry that I was playing poorly last night guys. Some shit happened that stressed me out and I thought some L4D would have helped. Made things worse. D:

Finally 980 achievement points, only Zombie Genocidest is missing. 32000/53500. Not going to grind this one, might as well get it during nice versus matches. :)

God I love this game. Versus just needs more content now.

to counter that i had a random v random match where they scored a massive two (1 before the multiplier) so its down to luck as we all know but every so often you get your gems :D

I think the lowest I've kept a team is 8 (and <250 for all five rounds).

Highest overall score was just over 8,000, although I'm not sure of the exact number because it never showed us our total (they rage quit on their turn at the finale).

I have to share this with you GAF, but I love Versus now. I'd been playing it every night for the past week or so, if only because I had nothing else to play, but I really wasn't feeling the mode at all. Sure, the survivor parts were fine, but the infected rounds were slow, boring and very annoying. But last night, everything finally clicked for me.

I was playing a Versus round with a team of randoms, and we were unstoppable. We were such a tight group as the survivors that the other team couldn't get more than a seconds damage on any of us, and as the infected, we were able to destroy the survivors within minutes of starting the match. It felt so great.

It was even stranger because we were working so well together despite none of us using headsets. There were several amazing moments, for example, on Act 5 of No Mercy, I was able to pull one of the survivors over to the elevator shaft, where he hit the edge, and then our tank ran over and with two hits had killed him, just as a second survivor ran up to save him. The tank hit him against a wall, and a hunter grabbed him. The other two were starting to fall back because of the tank, but then the last guy on our team ambushed them as a boomer, which swarmed them with zombies so they couldn't move. Then the tank ran down and finished them off.

Stuff like that, were we could just improvise off of each other. It was so great. God I love Versus now.

But, it's random like you said. Last night I had a really weird game, and I -think- my team was all friends (or friends of friends, GAFish or otherwise). There were one or two decent players on the other team, but mostly the other team was random public players that we usually beat pretty easily.

It just felt surreal though. I was the only one with/using a microphone, and on the sewer map I got killed really early by a tank so I just told teammates where zombies were and made suggestions the rest of the map. =P And then my teammates tragically got killed on the pavement outside the sewers.

The other surreal thing was that (given the difficulty of communication) our team didn't do very well as survivors...we survived 1-3 maps I think. But, we always seemed to get lucky with zombie teamwork, and once we had a hilarious 16% victory with a tank and special zombie help. Oh, and one level we had the classic "tank-in-alley-kills-everyone-with-large-object" moment.

I really wish this game could have had proper 4v4 matchmaking somehow. I know there are loads of obstacles stopping that from working, but it's so frustrating playing public games and having the other team all quit out after one bad chapter as survivors.

It's also really hard to get 8 good people together for proper versus games, and the game doesn't scale well at all to 2v2 or 3v3.

haha played advanced last night for the first time.

admittedly the team I matched with were barely competent normal players and i consider myself competent (although I NEVER see smokers until they have me)

but wow did we get SCREWED on Death toll. the tank was unstoppable. I'm never playing with someone plus guest again. that dude was dead weight and a smoker got me while I was beside the whole group and I was outright killed from Max health. :lol

normal is much more enjoyable for playing with retards that's for sure.

any tricks for avoiding smokers? I don't have headphones, but do play with decent sound. I just hear 'theres' a smoker around here and he always gets me in the back, EVERYTIME.

I'm sure not many people are on, on a Tuesday morning but my game (360) just updated. Not sure if anything was fixed though, if anything wants to play anything I'm down! GT: ne0ism

Man, people who don't keep up when playing Versus really annoy me. There always seems to be one guy who has to stop and go in every room and kill every last zombie, then he ends up getting jumped by a hunter or something. JUST MOOOOOOOOOVE!

I'm thinking of mapping the "Hurry Up" voice command to a key as I feel like a tit telling people to move down a mic.

Bu Bu But... Dead Air and Death Toll versus?

Edit: TBH, I can really only put in the hours I want into this game on the weekends (well Thursday, Friday, Saturday and some Sunday) since going back to work... Its got me down :(

I just launched L4D and looks like a new patch is out.

Anyone know what's in it? The PC corrections 4 weeks ago?

I just got the update as well, I thought you guys would know :lol

Edit: Apparently not, people on Gamefaqs (lol) are saying you can still block the elevator, break the door down, etc. People are guessing it was just a update to set stuff up for the future DLC.

some kid tried to kick me last night in versus. I was a smoker waiting for the survivors to exit the sewer so I could snag the last one back into the sewer. I get the last guy and start attacking him and killed him before his team killed me. Then some kid starts yelling in the mic that I stole his kill and "he hates me forever" He tries to kick me vote fails and he ends up getting kicked instead. :lol

So I just got out of a game not too long ago where someone, after dying as infected, would just rejoin the infected to become an insta hunter or something... shit was weird O_O

also pulled my very first dick move last night. Playing NM we all make it to the safe room the three other people leave and start shooting and hitting each other all the while I'm standing in the safe room with the door open waiting for them. They quit messing around and ran further outside and I can't see them anymore. I get tired of waiting walk out of the safe room take my pistols out and take two pop shots at the witch. She kills two of them and I quit and leave.

yeh we killed it though we almost lost thanks to aids and his running off for no reason.
The part where our team was running after your tank was especially hilarious.

Are you talking about NM2, the subway one? :lol :lol

That was pretty great...but the boomer kept failing to vomit on you guys though :(

Fuck

I would assume this was the patch to fix the cheating issue client-side that was fixed a few weeks ago (where you could use console commands and such).

Yeah, that was pretty unfortunate, they kept spawning behind them which doesn't always help. Me as a boomer on NM3 was funny though, got them 7 times before I died :lol

Shame I got smacked off the roof in the finale D:

On Blood Harvest, second from the last level, me and another guy get split from the other 2 teammates and they keep going as we struggle to make any advances onward, getting delayed mostly by a couple hunters and boomers. "Hurry the F up, blah blah blah idiots, blah blah." As I'm blinded by Boomer vomit I simply type, "Well we're getting held up by boomers and hunters," and I get votekicked. SOOORRRR-RY!!

Next server I connect to is No Mercy, and as I'm smoker I pull a straggler as the other 3 survivors are going downstairs into the subway. Our hunter pounces my victim instead of the guy coming back outside. "Dude!" "Yeah, sorry, I thought it would be the last player," or something along those lines, I don't know, it didn't really make any sense. So after my meter regenerates and hunter's gnawing on what should be my guy, I get the guy who came up the stairs. About 5-10 seconds later the same hunter steals that guy too.

My name's cakefoo (PC) if you feel like adding me, but be warned, my luck will jinx the team.

It's just a client side fix for the cheats

What the fuck? How in the hell could you use a client side console cheats on the 360 version? :O Some kind of keyboard tilde hack thingie?

But where is our "real" patch for the roadblocks? ;____;

as much as I like L4D, especially Versus, it feels like they need some really basic UI stuff to be patched in. this is maybe the sloppiest Valve game I have played, at least at launch, and I played HL2 at launch! I can't believe you can't go to spectators in Versus mode if teams are full from the team switching menu, for example. you can do that in TF2. I also feel like they should do something to sort of "control" what special infected you spawn as by letting you pick a preference (not a guaranteed spawn, but something where it will try to give you that spawn if it's available).

also, I know it's something that's brought up every now and then so it may be kind of a dead horse, but I totally agree that smokers are pretty weak right now. I feel like the best solutions are 1) make it so it requires more than one melee to break their snare, 2) make it so shooting the snare doesn't break it (sometimes I've seen this happen) and 3) make the snare constrict and deal damage much faster. Like 1 second after grabbing someone, they should be fully bound even while you're still dragging them and taking damage. oh, and 4) fucking turn off the auto-aim/make it smarter so the tongue drag/snare doesn't get used up on regular zombies. that's seriously one of the stupidest things ever.

I feel like this stuff needs to be done in addition to a few UI improvements for boomer/smoker (even though boomer is pretty good), like E should be bound to a simple "destroy door" command for infected that takes a couple swipes to destroy doors, and then mouse2 can be something besides weak-ass melee for smoker/boomer. Like originally, smokers could release a smoke cloud with mouse2, and if they added that back in, I think that would give them something (especially if it fucked with the view as badly as boomer puke can). For boomers, I really don't know what mouse2 could do aside from maybe a charged-up self-destruct kind of thing, maybe on the same kind of 2-3 seconds to charge up, similar to survivors using medkits. I don't know, I guess it's just that boomer/smoker feel like one-trick ponies and smoker especially could use something extra besides just buffing his drag/snare. It's kind of similar to how in TF2 a lot of classes felt really basic/one-dimensional, and then Valve put out the achievement packs and they got some other form of utility that gave them more depth/strategy.

plus, it feels like Versus is still really, really stacked in favor of survivors, although a large part of that is due to what I feel is a no doubt soon-to-be-nerfed auto shotgun. as much as I like that gun for blasting zombie limbs off, it's broken as hell in every mode and the hunting rifle is way too weak (though better in campaigns).

^^^ Pretty much agree with everything you said. Easily the least polished Valve game I've ever played. And the auto-shotty is so powerful it's obscene. I rarely carry it unless I KNOW I'm going to see a tank before the end of the level, otherwise it just feels like cheating.

You could change the settings file with a data transfer cable and then probably bind console commands to buttons. It's somewhat puzzling the dedicated servers were vulnerable to this though.

It always goes Hunter, Hunter, Boomer, Smoker, repeat.

I agree with your comment in regards to picking a Survivor, though.

Are you talking about the PC? I'm Smoker to start a level a huge percentage of the time. And because it was happening so often, I started paying attention and noticed the first infected to load gets Smoker.

Don't really think the Boomer needs changing, though. He's good enough as it is, and if give him even more crap to do, he'll be a little overpowered. But as it stands right now, he's probably the most important infected. Without a decent Boomer, the survivors will just breeze through the level. And yeah, I do expect the autoshotty to be nerfed in the next major patch.

I mean, there's is absolutely no point in picking an Assault rifle over an Autoshotty in versus. It's not like you can't just blast away at your teammate with the shotgun when he/she is being pounced on/smokered, and the autoshotty can still kill special infected from long distances. As it stands now, the autoshotty has way too many uses and it totally gets rid of the need for players to use other guns.
